For just one day on 26 July 2015, Slow Food (Singapore) – the only Slow Food Convivium in Singapore officially mandated to safeguard Singapore’s Gastronomic Heritage – is pleased to introduce the inaugural “Kueh Appreciation Day 2015” held at established kitchenware retail store, Tools of the Trade (ToTT), from 10am to 3pm. “The Kueh Appreciation Day 2015” is also one of the Fringe Events of The Singapore Food Festival, an annual highlight that local foodies will definitely make a beeline for.

A Fair of Delicious Traditions, no “kueh-tions” about it

The different ethnic groups in Singapore have something to shout about – Eurasian, Hainanese, Hokkien, Teochew, Peranakan and Indian kueh (Malay word for cake) artisans, four of which were awarded the Slow Food (Singapore) title of “Heritage Hero” in 2014 – will be selling their traditional kueh to the public; 45-minute demonstrations that include tastings will feature pang susie by Mary’s Kafe, Teochew soon kueh by Chef-Owner Eric Low of Lush Epicurean Culinary Consultancy and the Peranakan ondeh ondeh by HarriAnn’s for all patrons. Free admission is granted to all to purchase kueh from the six featured artisans at the general event, while tickets are priced at $12 for each kueh demonstration session via http://www.slowfood.sg/events/event-registration from 15 June onwards.
