bought some vouchers from deal.com.sg at a discount to try out 51 Soya bean .They sell different flavours of bean curds ranging from durian , almond , original , bandung etc The beancurd might look simple , plain almost the same as lao ban soyabean but taste different...The taste not too sweet and seemed less creamyI bought original , durian and bandung flavour ,The durian flavor taste nice and got strong fragnance smell of durian , the bean curd are smooth , and melt in the mouth and not too sweet And though you left in overnight , the texture still remain the same when you bought it continue reading

Located in the same vicinity/hawker centre as Lao Ban, I was surprised that 51 soya bean was still going strong. As Lao Ban soya beancurd was experiencing a long queue, i decided to purchase the original flavoured beancurd from 51 soya bean at $1.50 each. It tasted 90% like lao ban, each has their own strengths. Their beancurd did not have the "powdery-feel" of layer on top (like lao ban's). It was smooth and silky and glided down my throat easily. Verdict: worth a try. Good continue reading

Their soyabeancurd is pudding style, quite similar to "Lao Ban Soya Beancurd". The price is about $1.50 - $3. There's original, almond, chocolate, strawberry, and mango flavours available. This time I had the almond one, the almond taste was not strong enough and it was very very sweet,it's quite smooth. But on top there's a layer of thing which looked like it had been left overnight, doesn't seem fresh to me. Still prefer Lao Ban Soya Beancurd to this. continue reading

Another pudding-like beancurd joining the beancurd war in this century at Old Airport Road Hawker Centre, now both brand competition everywhere...The beancurd looks so ordinary, plain almost the same as 老伴豆花, but taste different...The taste not too sweet and seemed less creamyBut if you want a single satisfying experience, I would still suggest 老伴豆花...cause I'm flavor to 老伴豆花!! haha!! continue reading

Big question: which is better? I think that's a wrong question to ask. It depends on what you like (yes I am a genius). 51 Soya Beancurd is less silky but has a better soya feeling overall without being overly sweet. Lao Ban seems to be resting on its laurels with lesser quantity and can be rather inconsistent depending on which outlet you visit. The original ones may not necessarily be the best (same for 51 Soya Beancurd). continue reading
