See my full reviews & photos at = http://chefquak.com/2014/10/19/good-5-course-dinner-ah-yat-abalone-forum-restaurant-on-18oct2014/had 3pax dinner at ah yat abalone forum restaurant at hotel grand pacific last evening on 18.10.2014. #1 the soup was good. the lobster claw was quite tasteless, but the soup stock was good & tasty. i felt that the cooking here at ah yat abalone was generally better than the other ah yat outlets.#2 braised abalone & mushroom in brown sauce was very good. abalone was 2in size & had excellent texture & bite. the brown sauce was excellent!was not expecting much with the #3 fish fillet japanese style but it was good. fish was firm & bouncy & batter was good. the sauce was just right & not overpowering.& i finished the entire #4 braised yee keen noodles despite my usual low carb preference, meaning it was good. very tasty for a plain vegetarian dish! excellent! desssrt was a #5 bird’s nest in almond cream. it was competent but bird’s nest does not register much with me, non descriptor. almond cream was smooth. maybe i would be able to taste the smoothness better w/o the bird’s nest.for this dinner, i bought 3 S$28.80pax groupon vouchers. there was a S2.50pax cover charge for tea & towels & a S$3 charge for peanuts (both compulsory charges whether you took or not), which came up to S$12.95. so in total we paid S$33nett pax for the 5-course dinner. quite a good deal. continue reading

I bought a pair of Groupon vouchers for a 6 course set meal at Ah Yat at only $38 per pax. We made reservations in advance. The restaurant has a very typical chinese style decor with tacky display of their 天九翅 prominently at the door. Upon arrival, we were promptly ushered to our seats. We were politely reminded that drinks and service charges need to be paid in cash at the end of the meal. We ordered a pot of jasmine tea to go with the set dinner. The Starter is a squid salad, squid was fresh and tender and the sesame sauce was very yummy.Fish fillet with sweet & spicy sauce. The fish was fresh and batter was crispy...nice.Braised tofu with seasoned veggie. The tofu was silky smooth, not bad.Abalone baked rice, this was delish. The abalone was rather tiny but goes well with the plump mushrooms and thick but flavorful abalone sauce gravy...thumbs up.Birdnest in almond cream. This is not too sweet, almond cream was smooth and full of flavor...very good!Redbean cake. This is not too bad as well, can taste the red bean flavor and it wasn't too sweet.Service here is prompt and polite, food quality is good. Recommended! continue reading

Client blanjah (treat) lunch after my hubby’s project completion. It’s embarrassing to get too comfortable when someone’s treating. So we just got the set lunch.Prompt service by polite staff , we got our orders shortly. The fried noodle was alright, noodles was well cooked.Sharks fin soup is thick and delectable. Satisfying. The duck was a bit tough to chew though, but still tasty.Buttery and flaky char siew pastry is delishPrawn was nice, I like the tangy sauce coating.Braised abalone is superb ! The tenderness is unforgettable. Fresh crunchy vegetables. This place has the looks of classy oriental with nice decors.Overall a job well done by hubby and job well done by people behind these dining experience! continue reading

So Ah Yat Restaurant was having a 8 dish set meal promotion at $39.90 per pax.FOODThe Menu for the set mealDeep Fried Squid Roll and Toast RollThe set meal started off with the appetizer, squid and toast roll. It's quite crispy and crunchy and tastes good with the mayonnaise sauce.Double-boiled Fish Maw with Tianshan Snow LotusThe herbal soup was quite bland, but one can taste the fragrance of those herbals ingredients. Nourishing soup for the body, I would say!Stewed Whole Fresh Abalone with Japanese Mushroom and KaleThe MAIN dish of the day - Abalone! The gravy is especially tantalizing, and fits in perfectly with the abalone, mushroom and kale. A little salty, but taste just rightDeep-Fried Fish Fillet with honey pepperThe sweet thai chili sauce brings out the crispiness and sweetness of the fish fillet. Awesome!Baked Boston Lobster with Superior StockAnother MAIN dish of the day - Lobster. The freshness and the baked fragrance together with the tantalizing gravy brings out the awesome taste of the lobster. My favourite dish of all in the set menu!Braised E-fu noodleLike any other E-fu noodles served in other restaurants, it's quite ordinary.Double-boiled Bird Nest with Almond juiceA herbal and healthy desert. Bird nest with almond. The almond paste was thick enough and taste just so great together with the bird nest. A nourishing dish for the skin!SERVICEI've always love the service in Ah Yat Restaurant. The service staffs are very polite to the customers, and will also engage in small talks to interact with the customer, ensuring that we are well and the dishes are served promptly. AMBIENCEIt's quite quiet and peaceful. There are 2 floors. Customers can request to dine on the second storey if they prefer a more tranquil environment to dine in. continue reading

Go before 3pm for dim sum at 30% off. They are rather inflexible about the timing, there was once whereby they refused to accommodate us even though it was barely 2.45pm. Nevertheless, environment is good and they have pretty decent dim sum. Liked the mini abalone lotus rice (2 servings); salted egg yolk buns were good as well. The common char siew bao, siew mai, and har gao were also alright. continue reading
