Built right next to the Singapore Racecourse at Kranji, the Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre
is set on three-hectares of lush greenery. That’s where you are going to catch the equestrian events for the Youth Olympic Games
! Frankly, we think that the equestrian segment of the Youth Olympic Games is a unique one as it is the only sporting event that involves animals! It will be so interesting watching riders and horses competing as a team.
Unfortunately there’s really not much food choices at Kranji so for more food variety, we suggest making your way to Chua Chu Kang
which is just 1 MRT stop away from the Kranji Station.
A visit to Dian Xiao Er
would be a good choice for those of you who would like experience a rustic and raw ambience at a traditional Chinese inn. You have to try their signature dish, herbal roast ducks which are prepared and roasted in the display kitchen daily.
Dian Xiao Er’s signature dish, Duck Roasted with Ten Wonder Herb is awesome!
Here’s what Openricer tasty.engineer said about Dian Xiao Er’s Duck Roasted with Ten Wonder Herb ($23.80)
and Chinese Wine Mushroom (S$10.80)
in a his review. “The duck is cooked in lot of herbs, creating a strong yet nice herby smell. The duck meat is tender with the skin yet being crispy at the same time. Eating it is very addictive and makes us crave for more. The Mushroom is another popular dish. Being a personal favourite of Chinese wine chicken, this is the first time I have seen it cooked with mushrooms. The Chinese wine makes it fragrant and delicious.”
Yup! The Chinese Wine Mushroom at Dian Xiao Er has great flavours too!
And did you just asked what’s so special about Dian Xiao Er’s Herbal Roast Duck? Well, here’s what they say.“We choose Cherry Valley ducks of the finest quality; naturally breed off the lakeside. We take great care in the selections & preparation of our ingredients. Our ducks are prepared and freshly roasted daily. The ducks are first marinated with a myriad of herbs and spices for hours, thereafter roasted with appropriate temperature to keep them from drying out in the oven. A duck roasted in this manner is crisp to the touch and golden brown in appearance; its flesh is both tender and juicy together with an overwhelming herbs fragrance. It is definitely a mouth- watering temptation impossible to resist. Truly sensational!!!”
Sensational or not, you tell us! Be sure to share your dining experience at Dian Xiao Er

, you’ll be pleased to know that that there is a popular coffee shop tuck away in a corner behind the Chua Chu Kang bus interchange. Be prepared to find a crowd here at any time of the day. Tiong Bahru Chwee Kway
offers Chwee Kueh or steamed rice cakes topped with fried preserved radish. According to tasty.engineer who seems to be always hanging around at Chua Chu Kang, “It is smooth and has fragrant toppings, but the secret lies in the SAMBAL CHILI!! You got to ask for more chili even though they sometimes may end up giving you lesser(dep on their mood). Nevertheless, I continue to frequent there and try to give my widest smile whenever i ask for more chili.”
Remember, tasty.engineer said that the secret lies in the SAMBAL CHILI!!
He has a point there about good chili. But if you are in the mood for something soupy try the fried fish sliced noodle soup from Fish Soup
. You will love the flavourful broth and by the way, Dong Xing Hong Yu Tou Tang

This is the "white" version does not use sweet soy sauce. If you prefer a sweeter version, get yourself a plate of "black" carrot cake instead.
Don't say we didn't tell you! The carrot cake from Dong Xing Hong Yu Tou Tang is a big hit among locals staying at Chua Chu Kang. After savouring that sinful dish, you should clean your palate with a bowl of Pandan bean curd or grass jelly dessert available at the Tou Hua

Lastly, if you have some time in the morning before the race starts, hop on a shuttle bus to the Night Safari
