Useful Tips when Eating at a Buffet Restaurant
2013-01-30
Don’t you think that a buffet is every foodie’s dream? Just think of it this way—tables (and more tables) of appetisers, mains, and desserts to fill you up to your heart’s content. No matter how many times you go back for more, no one’s going to stop you. The only problem is there are just too many options to choose from, and you just want to try all of them! When you do, you feel like your stomach is going to explode afterwards. Well, luckily for you, there are some tricks to maximising your buffet dining experience. And it all starts with a plan. Here are some tips:

1. Scout the Buffet Before you stuff your plate, make sure you do a preliminary check on all the dishes out there. Make a mental note of those you want to try and those you can get later (or even skip). When you already have a list on what to sample, then it’s time to get your food. 2. Plan Your Attack Sure, there are so many choices to choose from. So, you can’t go running around the restaurant like a headless chicken and trying out whatever you can get your hands on. It’s best to decide first if you want to go by section or by course. If it’s the latter, then start with the appetisers (since they’re lighter) and head on to the other sections with mains, desserts, and others. Remember: don’t just go grabbing food blindly. Think of the dishes you want to eat before you put them on your plate. 3. Don’t Eat, Just Taste After you’ve checked out the buffet, we’re pretty sure that there are so many things you want to try. In order for you not to feel full easily, don’t dump food on your plate like it’s the end of the world. Just get small portions for every item you want and make sure these are enough for you to taste. For those dishes which stood out for you, don’t be afraid to go for second servings to enjoy them. After all, you’re in a buffet restaurant to eat good food. 4. Use Smaller Plates You may not notice it, but smaller plates help you eat less. So, stay away from those big plates which are tools to make you binge on food. Instead, use those mini ones so you can avoid piling your food. Therefore, you eat less but you still get to try most of the items you want! Looking for buffet restaurants, click here for OpenRice's comprehensive Buffet Guide!
