Lebanese Roast Chicken with pita bread (left), Turkish Beef Meatballs with spiced rice (top right), Garlic Mushrooms with nacho chips (bottom right)
Available from 12pm to 2pm on weekdays, the concept of the overdoughs lunch menu is all about mixing and matching so you basically have the freedom to choose what you like, from the base to the fillings and sauces.
For the “meat of the meal”, we loved the Lebanese Roast Chicken ($8.50) best as a main filling. Also known as Shisk Taouk, the tender, flavour-packed chicken is marinated in yoghurt and spices – notably artichoke’s own rendition of baharat (Lebanon’s distinctive 7-spice powder). It will be a messy meal if you choose pita bread as your base (that’s what both we and overdoughs recommend), but it’s definitely worth the trouble!
The other two fillings, Garlic Mushrooms ($8) and Turkish Beef Meatballs ($9), are also noteworthy choices. A delicious mix of delectable jewels, from meaty abalone to golden oyster mushrooms and the delicate willow variety, we just couldn’t get enough of the Garlic Mushrooms served with nacho chips, while the gluten-free, sundried red pepper paste-seasoned Turkish Beef Meatballs go great with the tasty spiced rice as a base.
To seal the deal, make sure to ask for lots of sauce, or sauces in this case. What overdoughs strongly suggests is to combine the Toum (hot garlic sauce), Zhug (green chilli sauce), Ezme (Turkish tomato salsa) and Tahini (roasted sesame sauce), all in one crazy mix for a unique taste sensation.
Make time for desserts!
Handmade baklavas to choose from include cashew, walnut, dark chocolate with almond, fig chutney and apricot and pistachio
You can’t leave overdoughs without helping yourself to at least one or two of their Arabic pastries and sweets. There’s a variety of baklavas, syrup cakes and tarts to choose from, ranging from $5+ to $6+ for a pair of pastries or a single tart. The baklavas here are one of the best in Singapore and you can’t go wrong with either the Traditional Baklava or the Fig Chutney Baklava. For tart lovers, the heavenly Passionfruit Meringue Tart and the sinful Snickers Tart are also excellent dessert choices!
