The Singapore Burger Directory
2013-07-08
Burgers are probably one of the sexiest things in the world. Mere pictures of those thick beef patties sandwiched between two golden buns are enough to make you drool and send you on a burger rampage for lunch and dinner. And so, we’re sorry if the following article is going to do you and your diet damage. But hey, a foodie’s gotta do what’s necessary to sniff out all the burgers this country has to offer.
Expect to pay: Anywhere from $9+ to $16+ for the small burgers, $11+ to $18+ for the BERGS (large) burgers Must-try: The BERG with Cheese ($10.50 for small, $13.50 for BERGS)
BERGS brands themselves as makers of gourmet burgers and the beauty of BERGS is that everything you can find in their burger is made in-house from scratch, from the patties to the sauces and marinades. And yes, you can actually taste the difference too. Two words: mind-blowingly awesome! Just a word of caution: the small burgers really aren’t that small so don’t say we didn’t warn you...
Expect to pay: Anywhere from $19+ to $24+ for the burgers alone Must-try: DD (with duck leg confit, $19)
For a restaurant that’s headed by a three Michelin-starred chef, &MADE offers surprisingly affordable burgers. This charming little dining joint at Pacific Plaza is actually Chef Bruno Menard’s first local outpost and you have to admit – it sure does give his portfolio that unexpected twist with its casual nature as an eatery..

Expect to pay: More than $20 for a set meal (a burger plus fries and a drink) Must-try: Omakase Cheeseburger ($13+)
So you thought Omakase Burger was Japanese-inspired? You’re not alone. That being said, we do have to clear that misconception for everyone who’s confused. Omakase Burger has zero Japanese influence – with the exception of their name which translates to “to entrust [the chef]” – and it is American more than anything else. Although some say that their already small burgers have shrunk in size since opening day, there’s no denying that their juicy beef patties and butter-soaked, slightly-crunchy-on-the-outside buns are to die for.

Expect to pay: Anywhere from $10+ to $25+ for the burgers alone Must-try:Bacon Cheeseburger ($14+)
De Burg is actually housed in a coffee shop in Bukit Merah but don’t be deceived by its location. Chef-owner Andrew Sim crafts his very own variety of beautiful burgers, from hearty creations like the De Burg Decadence (hello wagyu!) to the simple yet solid stuff like the must-try Bacon Cheeseburger.

Expect to pay: Less than $10 for the burgers alone (with the exception of the monthly special) Must-try:Fat Elvis (with banana tempura, bacon, and peanut butter, $11)
Yet another kopitiam burger contender, Meat Packing District is all about affordability. Most of their burgers are under $10, plus you can have these inexpensive little darlings delivered right to your doorstep if you’re located within the vicinity – minus the delivery fee!

Expect to pay: $40+ for the burgers/sets Must-try:The DB Burger (with sirloin, braised short ribs and foie gras, $42)
Would you pay $40+ for a burger? No? Well, if it’s the DB Burger at Marina Bay Sand’s db Bistro Moderne, you might wanna rethink your decision. We think it’s safe to say anything with foie gras paired with other meat (and cooked right of course) is going to be absolutely divine. You might also be interested in their “Burgers of Independence” promo. From now till August 11, try three different burger sets created in honour of American, French and Singaporean independence celebrations.

Expect to pay: Anywhere from $14+ to $19+ for the burgers alone Must-try: Relish Burger (with medium rare beef patty and sundried tomato relish, $17)
Chef Willin Low of Wild Rocket continues his burger legacy with Relish – a quaint little shack in Cluny Court’s mini dining enclave. Using only premium beef patties, Relish’s creations are made with love and we like that their burger range is pretty colourful.

Photo by Fatboy’s The Burger Bar
Expect to pay: Anywhere from $10+ to $20+ for the burgers alone Must-try: Fat Basterd (with two beef patties, bacon, cheese and fried egg, $18)
The greatest thing about Fatboy’s is that you can customise your very own burger. Great for aspiring chefs and experimental foodies! However, if you prefer to leave it to the pros, you won’t be disappointed by their selection of burgers. Can’t handle the Fat Basterd? There’s always the Wimpy – the single patty version of the monstrous bestseller.

Expect to pay: Anywhere from $11+ to $16+ for the burgers alone Must-try: The K.B Original (standard American cheeseburger, $11)
Did you know that Kraze Burgers is a South Korean establishment? With outlets in Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore (one at Marina Bay Sands and the other at Plaza Singapura’s The Atrium), Kraze Burgers brands themselves as makers of “healthy versions of comfort food”.

Expect to pay: Anywhere from $9+ to $11+ for a set meal Must-try: Cracked Pepper Mayo ($5+)
Fast food is junk food? “Nonsense!” says VeganBurg and their league of celebrity patrons such as Steve Aoki. Enjoy tasty plant-based burgers guaranteed to satisfy even the most carnivorous foodie. With an array of burgers to choose from, we think nobody would really mind going vegan every once in a while!
Expect to pay: Less than $10 for the burgers alone Must-try: The Original Burger (with beef patty and secret sauce, $5+)
Managed by Island Creamery, Burger Shack is great for students and those with a budget in mind. Most of their burgers cost less than $10 and as a set, it’s still around the same price range. Don’t expect anything fancy-shmancy here, it’s as basic as it gets. No fuss, no muss!
Expect to pay: Anywhere from $20+ to $30+ for the burgers alone Must-try: Bacon Marinated ($24)
With offerings like foie gras burgers and wagyu beef patties, it doesn’t take a genius to know that a place like Roadhouse offers burgers with that touch of class. Plus, with plenty of new additions to their burger menu, you now have more reasons to drop by Dempsey’s coolest hangout.
Expect to pay: Anywhere from $12+ to $20+ for the burgers alone Must-try: The Works ($17.80)
One fine day, three friends, Anna Lim, Andrew Chan and Benedict Leow decided to create affordable gourmet burgers for everyone to enjoy – and that’s how The HandBurger was born. The brand’s claim to fame? Handmade burgers free of MSG, preservatives and artificial flavouring.
Expect to pay: Anywhere from $9+ to $12+ for the burgers alone Must-try: Portobello Prime Beef Burger ($12+)
Two “blur guys” with absolutely no knowledge of the food industry decided to venture into uncharted waters… by setting up a burger joint. Located at Orchid Hotel in Tanjong Pagar, Two Blur Guys specialises in burgers, pastries and beer. Although their menu isn’t exactly extensive, somehow they’ve managed to pull it off with their flavour-packed grub.

Expect to pay: Anywhere from $10+ to $14+ for the burgers alone Must-try: The Classic Burger ($11)
Situated at The Foundry at Mohamed Sultan, The Better Burger (TBB) likes to keep things nice and simple. Their menu consists of just eight beef burgers and three chicken burgers so you won’t have a difficult time picking something. If you like, you can do the add-ons like eggs ($1), cheddar ($1), Portobello ($3) and so on.
