Went there for client visit. Was hungry since did not eat my lunch. So pass by this Baba king which from the name should be selling Peranakan food. I would say Peranakan food are the true authentic Singaporean cusine. When i first went in, saw the beautiful interior and feel super nice. Then i proceed to order their signature dish, Devil curry which comes in bento set for single person which is thoughtful as we might not be able to finish if by ala carte and also the Burbur Hitam with XO brandy. Real brandy as they pour the liquor in front of me. Dont worry you will not get drunk. When my order came, the aroma of the curry hits you immediately. Im drooling already. The sides are good, the achar is nice and the long beans are well cooked. Then i proceed to taste the devil curry. No words can describe it when the tender beef which is cooked for a long time. its spicy but not till it will burn your tongue. After a wonderful main course, i started to eat the burbur hitam which is surprisingly refreshing and the XO brandy really goes well with it. What genius! The service was also excellent as the owner himself who is extremely friendly and knowledgeable chats with me. I realised he loved to chat with his customers to ensure his quality of food are well received. He told me that opening a restaurant has been his passion and other than that, he also have a catering and frozen food which is distributed in NTUC. All are serving Peranakan food. Will definitely bring my family to try this hidden gem. continue reading

First of all, Ba Ba King has shifted to 1 Changi Business Park Cresent, #01-22, Plaza 8 @ CBP Singapore 486025. It is no longer located at Singapore Expo, do take note.Heard of Peranakan buffet? Now for $28 not inclusive of GST and service charges, you can enjoy Peranakan buffet dinner. The menu consist of the following dishes:There wasn't any one beside us in the restaurant which was good, we had all the attention to us. As Ba Ba King is now relocated to a business building, there wasn't much crowd beyond business hours.$28 is pretty worth it as the dish portion comes in normal serving size suitable for 4 persons. Thus, per table can only ordered up to 3 times be it repetitive dishes. However, if you are looking for truly authentic Nonya food, this place will disappoint you a little. We had quite a lot and walked out fully fed.Nonya Chicken CurryThe curry is okay, just that it is not really the authentic Nonya Chicken Curry not thick enough.Assam Chicken WingWhen I saw it on the menu, I pictured it similar to the Assam Fish and when the dish came it wasn't what I would expect. It just taste kind of weird, I still prefer the Chicken Curry than the Assam Chicken.Sambal Fish, Chili Onion Prawn, Cincalok Omelette: Nothing really special, just like one of the economics stall dish. The Nonya Ngo Hiang and YCK Sumbat Sotong are quite decent, finger food that we love.I don't like petai thus I don't really fancy Petai Ikan Billis, I prefer the peanut served.Milk Pai ChyeTaste just like one of those vegetables in oyster sauce, simply and nice.Chicken Buah KeluakThis is our first time trying this dish, taste kind of weird. We were supposed to use the stick given to dig out the minced meat from the shell. I felt the minced meat tasted like sand though - just simply weird.Beside Nonya dishes, they offer spaghetti. I had the chicken spaghetti, it was just spaghetti cooked in tomato sauce that's all.At least, the desserts are good.Pulut Gula MelakaI very much enjoyed this dessert with ample coconut milk.If you are nearby, you can consider popping by, else it is not really worth the travelling for a meal here. continue reading

Is located @ Singapore Expo,we saw this place & decided to have dinner there Ordered some food with my friends Ayam Buah Keluak- the gravy was really thick & there was definitely some buah keluak added directly to the gravy. The chicken was juicy thigh meat & conveniently deboned ,there were 2 nuts stuffed with some minced meat.,They even gave me a disposable glove & a crab picker for me to dig the meat out of the nuts.food is nice, service also good, overall i rate 8/10 continue reading

Talk about Peranakan Food, think of Baba King. Located at the corner of Expo Hall 3, it may not be easily noticed. I've been here many times and love their good food. The Ayam Buah Keluak is a must-try! It is bathed in a rich gravy, and the taste of the buah keluak is somewhat astringent with delicate underpinnings of bitterness. According to a peranakan friend, the correct method to prepare this dish is to dig out all the flesh of buah keluak from its shell, chop them finely and stuff them back into the shell before cooking the dish. This preparation is seldom found elsewhere. It goes perfectly with the fragrant rice!Try the Devil Curry Beef which is slowly stewed in its fragrant paste. I bet that you'll wipe out all the gravy and ask for more! The Sambal Prawn is nice, not too spicy. Another must-have is the Nonya Chap Chye. The cabbage melts in your mouth and the flavour lingers there... It reminds me of my mother's cooking!Baba King also serves some fusion fare, such as spaghetti with buah keluak or sambal fish. We were not adventurous enough to try that! Their signature desserts are pulut hitam (black glutinous rice) with XO and bubur terigu (white wheat porridge). XO pulut hitam is best taken cold. The bubur terigu soaks in the fragrant gula melaka. Never have I tasted such good bubur terigu! Another signature must-try is the lemongrass drink. It really quenches your thirst, especially on a hot, sunny day!All these, plus the good PR from its owner, make Baba King a great place for top-notch Nyonya cuisine. Portion may be a little small, though, but it's good if you like to try many different dishes! continue reading
