There is no sign board at the shop, which is located at the second level, next to a Taiwanese café. The staffs are busy baking in the kitchen, so it is quite awhile before someone notices me. Not much varieties on the display shelf, the staffs are busy making for big orders. Only cash payment is accepted here.Sea Salt croissant ($2.50/orignal)Sea Salt croissant ($2.50/squid ink)Available in plain and squid ink flavours. Looks a small tower, very cute. Tastes quite light with bit of sea salt aftertaste.Almond croissant ($4.00)Quite a big piece, that I could not finish half of it. There is lots of almond slices on top of it. Very tasty with the almond slices and soft and sweet with almond paste inside.Canele ($3.00)At first glance it looks like something that is burnt. A first mouthful, it tastes of caramelized sugar. Inside it is moist and soft. Kind of reminds me some kind of kueh. There is a rum aftertaste which I like. Too bad it is such a small piece. Should have bought more.Overall the breads are quite tasty but the location is abit out of the way. Maybe when the downtown line in front of the building is open, it will be easier to reach. continue reading

I have read about BAO on the papers before they were open. Since I am just staying 5 mins away, I decided to check it out on the first day of biz. BAO is located on the 2nd level of a office/retail building diagonally opposite of the Singapore Casket. The nearest MRT station for now would be Lavender. I have passed by this building countless times on my way home and always wondered if the building is for commercial use. There is not much promotions with regards to the shops inside. BAO is a collaboration between Patisserie G's Gwen Lim & ex pastry chef of Candele Christophe Grilo. The chef was presented that day and could be seen at the kitchen baking away Liberty coffee also had a pop up on the first day of biz serving coffee to customers. The building below is CT Hub. Wanted to try the croissants but sold out at 2pm . So I got these instead sea salt crossiants ($1.50 each) has some salty taste to it. Not overly buttery. The raisins bun was rather normal thou not as sweet as some other bakery in my opinion The bread offerings change from time to time as told by the friendly server. There are no signage to the bakery. They have an open concept shopfront. it's on the 2nd level and you wouldn't miss it. They are the only shop that is open on that level for now. Snapped a quick pic of the shop front from the escalator. The food and cafe scene around Lavender and Jalan Besar is indeed thriving~ continue reading
