Introduction
A household name in Singapore, Bengawan Solo is synonymous with traditional cakes and kueh made using the highest quality ingredients and time-honoured methods of preparation. Special occasions are not the same without Bengawan Solo’s signature treats such as Kueh Lapis Sagu (rainbow layer cake), Ondeh Ondeh (coconut-coated glutinous rice balls filled with molten palm sugar), Kueh Lapis (spiced layer cake), and butter cakes and cookies. Knowing travellers often buy a box of these delectable cakes to enjoy on their plane journeys, or as tasty gifts for friends back home. continue reading

I had guests coming over to my house and since it was quite a last minute notice, I decided to get a cake from Bengawan Solo to serve them. I have tried the banana cake last time, so I chose the walnut cake which costs $8.80, one dollar more expensive than the banana cake. I had a slice of the cake myself and frankly I was quite disappointed with the cake. I was expecting some walnut chunks to be within the cake, but I couldn’t taste any. It just tasted more like a butter cake, with no taste of the walnuts at all. I would think that the banana cake tastes so much better and it is also cheaper as well. I will probably not order this again. continue reading

Not only they are specialised with their wide range of nonya kuehs, they are also good with their different range of sponge cakes as well. Enjoyed their butter marble cake alot as it is thick and high in butter flavour and is quite fragrant. Great to go along with a cup of hot coffee or tea. Normally it can be stored in refrigerator normal compartment for at least 3 to 4 days after purchase. However it is still recommended to eat it fresh once purchased from their outlets. continue reading

This is my favourite place for cakes and Nonya kuih.Their signature Lapis cake or Layered Cake tastes exquisite.I savour each mouthful as I eat it layer by layer. The cake is soft and full of flavour. The other layered wonder is ''Lapis Sagu" - the traditional one made with glutinous rice. The consistency of each layer is just right and the taste will leave you wanting more. The service is fast and the staff are efficient. continue reading
