I was Plaza Singapura and sampled the Chinese New Year cookie at Bengawan Solo. When I approached the staff for assistance, the staff just pointed me the boxes of sampled cookies. She did not offer to open the boxes or gave recommendations of their best selling cookies or any new flavouring. I had to help myself and wondered which to try. I tried the Almond Nut, cranberry cookie, Indonesia kueh bangkit and shrimp roll. The almond nut was dry and can feel the big but not ground to the finest. The cranberry cookie was hard. The Indonesia Kueh bangkit was not rich in coconut texture. The only compliment was the shrimp roll which was soft and crispy. It was not oily. I wondered if the poor customer service had affected my sampling appetite at this store. Furthermore, the staff did not assist me or introduced me of their products. She was busy playing with her mobile phone. I was disappointed with the visit. continue reading

I passed by Bengawan Solo and bought a slice of their mango cake to try. They are more well known for their kaya cake, but I decided to try a fruit cake from there. It was a rather huge slice, with tiny bits of peanuts at the back, which added crunch to the cake. The amount of diced mangoes placed on top of the cake was also reasonable, but were not very sweet. I didn't quite like the cream though. Overall quite a nice mango cake. continue reading

This is Mango cake from Bengawan Solo! It is my childhood favourite and they have been selling for 10 over years therefore marks one of the really good cake over there. The taste have not change and it still tasted so good. The amount of mango on top of the cake is superb nice and fresh. And there is a layer of gelatine and abit of crunchy nuts then the soft mango sponge cake with fresh cream! It has layers of that! Good for birthday cake! continue reading
