Blu Jaz Café

If you happen to pass by this cafe at Arab Street, do check out the calamari rings here. The portion is consider quite generous and the service here is also quite friendly too. The sotong meat is very nice and chewy, which is with the natural sweetness from the sotong as well. The coated batter is really crispy and is not too oily as well. Dip in their sweet fragrant mayonnise, these calamari rings taste really delicious and certainly worth the money!

Was in the evening round about 7pm when me and my friends went over to Blu Jaz Cafe as we normally do. But remember to reserve a spot of sent one of your friends to go there ahead as it is over overpacked with throngs of people. Nevertheless the ambiance is a mixture of expats and locals who just want to chill in a psychedelic sorta feel environment. There are bands which play on the second floor, but for us we just wanted to shisha outside. So we ordered some side snacks of calamari,fries and corn toritallas the price was reasonable for a place like this say about 5-10$ per plate. and we called in the shiiiishaaa. The food quality is usually Good here and even by looking over at the other tables who ordered the main dish, well i have had one or two before and they usually are good especially the ribeye steak cause im a steak guy and i know a good steak!

I loved how Indie the design of the cafe was with it's psychedelic decorations and furnishings, it's all just so fun!
However, the atmosphere is abit too noisy

Anyway on to the food. There's quite an extensive menu ranging from Western to Mediterranean to Chinese. I went for Mediterranean as I hardly eat that kind of food with my family.

I ordered the lunch set at Blu Jaz which I found to be absolutely value for money. It comprise of the soup of the day (corn soup) , main course which is grilled dory with tomato sauce, dessert (cheese cake) as well as coffee or tea. This set only cost $10.70 and there is no service charge at this cafe. The corn soup is very creamy and it comes with a crispy and fragrant garlic bread. The dory fish is marinated well and complement perfectly with the tomato sauce. I love the wedges the most as it is crispy and taste nicer than elsewhere. Although the cheese cake is rather small but it is soft and delicious, and you do not get sick of it. Overall, it is satisfying experience at the cafe.

Had a friend who played at a band here so we went down to extend our support and enjoy some food. Ordered the calamari rings. It was good! Finger licking good! Done very nicely and when eaten with the mayonese, it was superb! We also tried the apple flavored shisha and it tasted quite sweet. Could be shared among a few people. Great ambience overall

My friend was raving about this cafe at Arab Street, so I decided to try it on a Friday night. Maybe since it was the start of the weekend, the place was packed! The waiter said that we my friends and I should've made reservations if we wanted good seats.Since we didn't, we settled for a table outside.

I ordered the Grilled Chicken Chop. The serving was big enough for 2 people, provided that you're a small eater. It had two big slices of chicken drenched in their sauce and underneath were fries, beans, and bell peppers. Honestly, I would have preferred them to separate the fries since they became soggy due to the sauce.

The chicken, even though it was white meat, was very soft and tasty. I believe it's because of the special sauce which had too much pepper. The spiciness was average for me, which I prefer since I don't like it to be too much.

The beef is so tender. The entire plate doesn't look confusingly cluttered. I'm not a big fan of meat but this is a must try. The vege are great too...not over cooked! $14.90Frankly speaking, I've tasted better ones. However, this has been left sitting around for too long before I consume. Might taste better if I had eaten it hot. $7.00

We sat on the outside and I must say that the service wasn't very fast. The place is too noisy for a romantic dinner but would be the perfect spot for group gatherings and chill out.

Second visit, as usual the service is still the same with no improvements. No complains as the food here are considered cheap especially during lunch hours. I had grilled dory fish with some kind of cream sauce. I didn't really like it as the fish were quite hard at the sides. They are not really fresh too. Still, it was edible. I also had frozen strawberry margarita. It was kind of sour. I was hoping that it would be sweet. All in all, was an average meal.

Great after work chill out place. I had mango and prawn salad. The prawns were tender, juicy and delicious along with sweet mango and vegetables at the sides. Great for a kick start. Also, i had chocolate martini to go along. I was quite disappointed as i find it really diluted. Didn't like it at all. Overall, was just average. Service was quite a let down too. They were either too busy or just not into serving asians.

I was plesantly surprised when I saw the 2nd and 3rd storey belongs to Blu Jaz Cafe. This place has three storeys, catering to three different groups of people. The first floor is for people to enjoy the band performance and their sheesha. The second level is dimly lighted, air-conditioned room with some cozy sofas and has a projector which I think is newly installed for the soccer fans. The third level is for group gathering for good food with nice drinks for chilling out because wide range of alcohol available from housepours to hard liquor, whiskey to mojito, wine to cocktails, whatever you name it, they will serve it.

I actually returned after 1 year of visit for the ambience and ordered the Dinner Set for myself, Mushroom Chicken for my girlfriend, then ordered some snacks like Calamari & French Fries on 8.00 p.m.

Later, my girlfriend's friend joined us for dinner, so we moved to 2nd storey. Subsequently, we ordered Zing Wing, Prawn & Mango Salad, Seafood Aglio Olio for both of them and Heineken jug for chill out.

Unfortunately, they did not serve my dessert and coffee for my dinner set. I did not make any complaint because it's business seemed to be rather good on a Thursday night. The whole indoor and outdoor dining area were filled with people.

As my conclusion, I really like the environment of this cafe due to live music at night made a relaxing atmosphere to have drinks after work and would want to go back again to try out the rest of the menu because of it's good food in cozy place.

I will say this is one of THE place to go if you are looking for a place to chill with friends and enjoy some good food.

It was a artistic place, it had 3 levels. They had a pretty good crowd, level 1 was filled and level 2 was almost filled at the peak timing. We were there around 6.30pm to 7pm after 9pm the place was quite filled. As we left I saw the stairways to level 3 and I didn’t know what’s at that level. As level 1 was live band, level 2 was DJ music so what’s there at level 3? Hmmm….

The food is really value for money! This is the perfect place to chill out – good food, good entertainment, value for money.

I had the salmon, we shared the chicken wings and curry. In short, it was similar to Astons.

The food presentation was good, food look appealing.

Service: 3/5 The staffs were not attentive enough, we order beverages but after we were half way through our food the drinks had yet to arrive. And it was kind of funny though when one of us gesture to the staff he held the water pitcher and walked towards us then we told him to serve our beverages, here’s the weird part – he didn’t refill our depleting ice water and walked away to get our beverages. So we needed to gesture again to refill the water.

I ordered this beef lasagne, it was fabulous! Cheesy, big portion and tasty! I can finish the entire plate myself.. The minced beef were soft and tender, sauce was sweet and pipping hot, not too dry not too wet. Overall, great! Service wise, there's quite a bit of confusion. I don't understand why the crews don't use pen to note down our orders. Then later mixed up our stuffs. And they don't talk much! Boring!!! Live band not working most of the time too..

For a gathering with both boys & girls that are not very close, it's a good choice for chilling out or a casual dinner. Food is not bad, the steak was good. The decoration itself is entertaining enough if your new frens have not that much common topics~ so u can spend the time taking pictures instead~

It may not be a place to feel comfortable relaxing (seating wasn't tat comfy) & have a long chat at (pretty noisy), but it's good for after-work hangout jus to wind down and have a good laugh with frens s;) Price is reasonable too~
