If you've watched Clicknetwork.tv's Tried and Tested, you would have heard of this brand Canele. So that day, i was at Raffles City, before my illumi run, and i passed by the shop
Bought a pack of 6 @ $11.50, you can choose the flavours. I got every flavour except the rose one. Got 2 of the caramel ones.

Oh my! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the caramel one! It's sweet, with a little bit of saltiness in it! The next flavour I like would be the chocolate one!

Had tea at Canele one Sunday afternoon with mum. Even though she's not a fan of desserts and food that are too sweet, she enjoyed her cake and hot chocolate. Service at this outlet was pretty slow though. And the waiters seem to engage in conversations from time to time, so it took a while to get their attention. Toast was cut into four pieces, they were well-baked with a little bit burnt. Cheese melt at the moment of eating, it was soft in texture and savory in taste. Filled along with Ham, the size was thoughtful. Macaroon was overly sweet, a bit greasy throughout the end yet it was still delightful. I believed High Tea can really cure stressful life, and Canele was the place.

Besides the smoked salmon was done just right. there was not fishy smell and the fish tasted really good.

I was also impressed with the service as they were able to served the food very quickly without compromising on the quality of the dishes.

Canele has always been my favourite place to grab those sweet little treats which we call macarons. Forget about the expensive Ladurée. If I can find the best at Canele at a more affordable price, I'm sticking with them instead. Nicely packed in a box of 8, I just couldn't resist grabbing 2 to eat before I took any photos. These were bought by my cousin and she got all my favourite flavours right! The rose was the best among so many others I tried. Chocolate and Salted Caramel works wonders too.

These were bought by my cousin and she got all my favourite flavours right! The rose was the best among so many others I tried. Chocolate and Salted Caramel works wonders too. What I really like about Canale's rendition of the French treats is they dont taste artificially and certainly not just overtly sugary sweet.

I just love to sneak a glance every time I walked pass the elongated glass shelf housing a series of wonderful if not splendid and sweet things in life. That was until my sweet tooth got the upper hand and before I could even contemplate reality, I grabbed my cousin quite literally, one of those high tea converts ever since she got to have tea with me to accompany me for tea.

So when I got to know she missed lunch just to come out with me, I felt kinda bad and told her to get a main course courtesy of my wallet. She skimmed through the menu and decided on a nicely bowled Carbonara ($16.00) which came with strips of bacons, parmesan cheese and a huge poached egg sitting above. It was nice twirling strands of pastas but we thought it could have been worth the money if it was creamier.

There's a reason why Canele is called a patisserie and a chocolaterie. Although I can't remember the name of this dome shaped dessert, I sure remembered working my way through all those bittersweet dark chocolate casing only to be greeted by fruity, sort of like cherries hidden within. It was like eating a blackforest cake that's frozen. Pretty interesting that is only if I would remember it's name...

Parisians love their macarons and especially those of Ladurée and Pierre Hermé which is said to churn the finest macarons in Paris if not the best in the world. I didn't quite believe in the best until a friend of mine bought a tub from Pierre Hermé for me. Nothing needs to be said about Parisian macarons. They are just freaking darn good!

Sadly, I don't live in Paris so I just have to make do with somewhere renowned for their top notch quality macarons in Singapore. Rose and salted caramel are my all time favorites so what's yours?

I wonder if there's salted egg flavor, you know Singaporean style? Wonder how would it taste like...

One can never have enough for desserts. I gestured the cousin to grabbed another cake of her choice. She went out to the counter and make some tough decisions and before I could even hassle a guess what she got, a Strawberry Shortcake ($6.50) was served. "A block of strawberry delight!" I hummed at the back of my mind. Light and delightful was the whole experience, make sweeten with sugar crystals hidden at the foundation of the cake. That's one strawberry shortcake for you to know and for me to know it's the best!

Since it's a delight for two and we have no mood for coffee, she opted for Velvet Earl Grey while I regretted picking Chamomile Flowers as it created a whole lot of mess despite sifting the liquid. Tea is refillable over at Canele and so we end up sharing one pot of Earl Grey with two. Joy of sharing. Priceless.

If good things come to those who waits then surely, good things often comes at a price. Canele isn't your typical no-frill, no GST/Service charge, simple dessert patisseries like you find along Duxton. The desserts at Canele always come with class, with a certain elegant aura enjoying them and it's clear cut to robbed your money kind of patisserie but for the best strawberry shortcake in town and the even more perfect macarons (after Ladurée and Pierre Hermé), it's definitely worth swiping the card for that wonderful if not seemlessly flawless afternoon tea session...

It was my mum's birthday sometime back, and Canele had some 20% off promotion for online orders, so it was an added bonus. I chose the Le Chocolat Croustillant, which costs $38 for 500g before discount. I liked the crispy chocolate praline in between the cake, and the crushed hazelnuts lined on the exterior, and the chocolate is rich and smooth. However, it might be a bit jelat to eat a lot at one go.

This is La Peche, a peach flavoured cake. Although it looks cute, it does not taste as good. Can't seem to describe what is wrong with this cake, but the fragrance and aroma of peach is not brought out, and the cake tastes rather bland. Another cake not to try would be La Pomme Verte, a green apple-like cake, the green outer jelly tastes artificial, and the cake was hard to swallow.

First time having a salad here.. Canele is a budget friendly place for gathering and the food is not too bad.. Wasnt feeling very hungry so ordered the chicken salad... It was a good portion for lunch and is fresh with a poached egg on top, chicken slices and cheese. It is not overwhelmed by sauce and best of all, you do not feel frustrated by the portion. Service is good and place is not too crowded even during lunch hours.

Spaghetti with mushroom sauce and ham. Not sure the actual name of the dish but it is definitely a creamy one. It is awfully sinful for me as i feel that my weight increase with the creamy sauce.

Desserts that we ordered:-
Le Royale is definitely a good choice for chocolate lover. A slice that costs S$7.48 is surrounded by the wall of chocolate glaze and almonds and topped with the heavenly bubble dark chocolate that melts into your mouth.

In love with their desserts. No wonder Canele is always in the dessert list if you google search through website. It definitely live up with their reputation. The desserts are very rich with ingredients and presentation. The presentation has taken the limelight of the day as it will attracts sweet tooth lovers to order. I do admit i am one of the sweet tooth lover. It totally brighten up the day when it slips into my mouth. I sound exaggerate? But i am chocolate lover and this dessert really satisfied my cravings for chocolate taste.

For the Sweet Temptation set ($14), it consists of a drink and a bowl of 3-scoops ice-cream. Well, the ice-cream is not creamy enough, it's too icy and tastes diluted. Not too impressive.

This year, the revamped Canele has infused the traditional sweets with some new flavours that are bound to light up anyone's Christmas.

For details and pictures : http://dairycream.blogspot.sg/2012/12/canele-christmas-delights.html

Amedei Chuao Cassis(centre with a chocolate star)/ Chestnut Obession (the one with glittering shine)/ Cranberry Indulgence (pink)/ Elderflower Blossom (green)/Gingerbread( orange)/ Nougat Temptation(yellow)

Each Macaron is larger than the christmas macarons by Antoinette and the ganache filling is really thick and sweet.
My favourite is this Gingerbread version because it has simply the richest festive taste of spice in its fillings.

The flavors in others were overwhelmed by the white chocolate ganache and thus were not distinct enough.

Texture wise, this nougatine filled center gave the additional crunch and a pleasant turn from jam or compote filled centers.

This "Dawn" mascarpone rum mousse with the expectedly sweet chestnut cream, bitter orange marmalade and vanilla sponge. The crunchy meringue is fortunately just a thin wall layered in the middle so this is very suited for those who are usually chased away by the sugar-high mont Blanc.

The " Dusk" is an ultimate chocolate decadence of made with good quality Amedei chocolate. Love that silky chocolate glaze which is a sweet contrast to the more intense bitter chocolate mousse though I did not quite agree that the chocolate sponge really fluffy. But crispy praline will always work for me and has come to be one of the deciding component when I choose a cake. Now the problem comes when this dark logcake seems to suffer under the heat more easily than the rest. (the base of my takeaway box was soaked in chocolate juice)

Had a wonderful tea session with my fellow ex-colleagues in this lovely-deco cafe and was really glad to have tried their colourful biscuits and coffee. These colourful biscuits have their individual taste and are simply crunchy and delicious. My personal favourite will be the coffee flavoured biscuit which the coffee cream in it is very smooth and creamy and is not too sweet also. Goes very well with the crunchy biscuits. Delicious but just the price is abit too expensive.

We had:

1) Portobello & Beef Ragout ($11) - really quite pricey, especially in light of its minscule portion, BUT it (sort of) made up for the price point by being quite delicious

2) Provencal Chicken Stew ($14) - compared to the portobello starter, this was surprisingly priced very reasonably. comforting chicken stock base, with large pieces of succulent chicken

3) Braised Beef in Red Wine ($16) - very deep, full-bodied and robust flavour
