Do visit http://www.umakemehungry.com/2014/05/chinatown-porridge.htmlIf you are looking for a light meal in Ayer Rajah Hawker Centre, Chinatown Porridge may be of a perfect choice to you. Specialised in porridge, they offer a range from chicken porridge to raw fish porridge. As of now, this is the only stall in the hawker centre that sells raw fish porridge. Raw fish was placed separately from the bowl of hot plain porridge.Another simple and plain meal available will be their cuttlefish porridge. Tasted a little bland but the amount of cuttlefish provided was still acceptable. If you still have stomach room for other food, you can try ordering some snacks like their Chee Cheong Fun and Yam cake. Instead of the brownish red sweet sauce, they are using the traditional black sweet sauce for these snacks added with some sesame seeds and oil to bring out the fragrance in the dish. Though oil was added, the snacks tend to stick together and was not as moist as expected.Personally I will prefer their yam cake to Chee Cheong Fun as they are soft and spongy. It comes in 3 size and cost $1, $1.50 and $2 respectively. It's a tad expensive when compared to its portion, however its still worth a try. continue reading

When I want something simple and cheap, century egg porridge would come to my mind. Well-loved for its excellent texture, the smooth porridge is a delight to my taste buds. There is no need to add any more soy sauce or pepper as it's already flavorful as it is. It would be even more perfect if there is fried dough stick to go along with. continue reading

I was sourcing around for healtier choice of light dinner when I came across this stall at west coast hawker.I ordered the minced meat balls only porridge with egg. The stall owners are friendly and the waiting time was short.I love the smooth texture of the porridge. Very well cooked, not too thick and not too watery. Minced meat balls are given generously considering priced at $2.50. The egg was another $0.50.Besides porridge I also tried their hot and well priced chee cheong fun. only $0.80 each. Can give a try for those staying in the west craving for porridge and does not want to go all the way to chinatown. continue reading
