I bought a $60 voucher (at half price) and hence paid Soup Restaurant at nex a visit. The restaurant was half full at 5.30pm as it was a Sunday. The waitresses (mainly chinese PRC) were not on the floor and we waited 8-10mins before we got someone's attention. As the old-school menu was just in words (English & Chinese) and there were no pictures so we did not know what to order. We ask for recommendations of must-try dishes but the restaurant manager just pushed the set meals (for 2/3/4) to us.

As the old-school menu was just in words (English & Chinese) and there were no pictures so we did not know what to order. We ask for recommendations of must-try dishes but the restaurant manager just pushed the set meals (for 2/3/4) to us. In the end, we settled for their signature dish -chicken with garlic/ginger dip ($15.90++), broccoli with scallop ($16.90), claypot tofu ($8++) and new dish - honey glazed pork ribs ($12.90++), rice ($3.60++) and tea ($1.20++ each). The bill added up to $72, without the towels and peanuts.
The chicken was indeed their signature dish. It is silky smooth and flavourful on its own with the garlic/ginger/chicken oil dip, without any hainanese chicken rice chili. We first timers were not taught how to eat the dish as we found this lettuce that accompanied the dish. We wanted to order the Beggar's Chicken-flavoured Rice but it was not available. The chicken was served way early even before the rice and tea. So, we waited while staring at the already-chilled chicken turn colder. When the other dishes arrived, what stood out most was the quantity (or lack of quantity) of the food. The size of the claypot of the beancurd is probably smaller than a normal cap. The beancurd is deep friend and soaked in a thick gluey sauce, you can find limited bits of (quite hard) sea cucumber in it. The veg - broccoli with scallop cost the most but the plate was equally small (think dessert plates at buffets) Amount of scallop was again very limited and it looked more like a garnish. The honey ribs were chopped into tiny pieces (think size of nougats). The dishes were in general, flavourful and plate presentation was good (especially the chicken) but the portion could be a little too tiny for 4pax. I asked for the bill but was told to bring the invoice to pay at the cashier myself, so do not expect much of a service here.
