Located near the first floor car park entrance is this bustling Crystal Jade My Bread bakery. Famous for their dim sum, Crystal Jade's bakery is also no less famous. The staff here all speak cantonese and are very polite and pretty much encourage you get as many buns as possible after 8pm when their Point-of-Sale (POS) Systems automatically give you a 20% discount. The staff will be able to tell you how much each item costs after the discount.I love their char siew polo buns. It is sweet on the outside, but fluffy AND NOT DRY on the inside.I also absolutely love egg white egg tarts. Alot more milky and creamier than the normal egg tarts I feel.I've been an absolute fan of these cupcakes for years. I put them in the fridge overnight and the next morning, they taste just like Sara Lee Pound cakes you get from the supermarket. Of course, with a hard chocolately top layer! My parents love these and they are usually packed in boxes of 3. Although you can ask the shop staff to get you individual ones too! At just 96cents after the 20% discount, it's cheap! The bill for breakfast tomorrow All in all, my favourite bakery that sells all our favourite cantonese breakfast goodies that are still fresh even at 8pm! I've seen them pull out new trays of egg tarts from their oven at 8pm!20% discount after 8pm continue reading

Besides their restaurants, Crystal Jade also has a bread franchise selling breads, pastries and cakes.I like Bo Lo Baos (Pineapple Buns) and so before I exited IMM I got a Hong Kong Bo Lo Bun ($1.30) from the Crystal Jade Bread Bakery. They have a few versions, one with the BBQ Pork (Char Siew) or the Plain one. I got the latter and although it might taste better with the char siew, I wanted to savour the bun without any extra flavours. The top of the bun provided some sweetness to the bread which is what I like about this bread. It is quite crumbly and so very flaky. Be careful when eating this bun, it can create quite a mess.Still it is not too heavy on the palate and I easily finished the light and fluffy bread. continue reading

Crystal jade bakery has their own version of the famous pork floss bun. The bun here is a worthy contender I must admit. The bun itself is pretty soft and moist with good bite and mouth feel to it. The pork floss is also flavourful with a good porky flavour that comes from quality product. Overall the savory topping and the slightly sweet bun match very well to give a delicious bun. continue reading

As the dumpling festival is just round the corner, we’ve decided to try out the festive offerings from Crystal Jade.Deluxe Rice Dumpling ($11.80)A hearty portion of glutinous rice and green bean encasing pieces of roast duck, roasted pork pork belly, conpoy, chestnut and salted egg. The taste is pretty interesting (possibly due to the addition of green bean paste?) unlike the usual dumplings we are used to having. However, the amount and quality of ingredients do not justify the hefty price tag. There was only 1 piece of roasted duck and a few pieces of roasted pork and pork belly. Abalone Dumpling ($23.80)If the deluxe rice dumpling (DRD) was not worth the price tag, this is definitely a rip off! Basically, what you get is DRD + a tiny piece of abalone, period. As with the former, the dumpling was fragrant and tasty. However, $12 more for a small piece of abalone is simply unacceptable! Petite Cool Dumpling (Black Glutinous Rice & Sago + Cheese & Peach) ($5.50/6 pcs)This is a very refreshing change from the usual savoury dumplings and is really yummy! The dumplings (or rather, jellies) are soft and chewy and helps in relieving some of the “jer lat” feeling that comes with whooping down half a giant DRD. Highly recommended! continue reading

Finally get to try on their bread. I always have doubt if they can make nice bread like other bakeries or confectioneries. And now it proves me wrong. The popular choice po luo bao never fails in the taste and texture. Soft texture and the sweetness is spread all over. The other one is topped with some oreo flakes and is special as the side of it is crispy. A little bland but the taste is blend with the oreo chocolate flakes.I guess their bread texture are almost the same. And so is the yam paste bread. The taste of yam is on the external instead and thus the bread texture can be felt more obvious every bite. The sweetness level is just nice. Another plus point is that their bread is not that dry and very buttery taste too which brings out the aroma of the different types of bread. continue reading
