Jiro-style ramen
Just OK 2013-04-23
If you like Jiro-style ramen, you will like Daikokuya Ramen. Jiro-style has fatty light broth with lots of bean sprouts and chopped garlic. I like! The ramen comes in two flavours: miso or shoyu. I picked the lighter shoyu one that was able to demonstrate the freshness of the other ingredients. You can add white vinegar if you so wished but I advise not in order to preserve the original flavours.

   Mentaimayo Gyoza

   Sapporo Spicy Miso Ramen

Went there with friend for lunch. We ordered Mentaimayo Gyoza and Sapporo Spicy Miso Ramen. When the gyoza (6pcs) was served, it looks so tempting. First bite, the gyoza was great. On top of the gyoza, it cover with salted cod roe and mayonnaise. Its crispy and crunchy and they were very generous with the ingredients. The ingredients was fresh and tender. The gyoza really goes well with cod roe, recommended. The ramen was not bad too. The soup broth was rich and not too spicy, and the soy egg is good - semi-boiled egg with runny yolk that also captures the essence of the soy marinate. The noodles are slightly fatter and springy which comes with a better bite. They were very generous with the ingredients too, all were fresh and tender. Overall, the food was great.

I was thinking what to have for last weekend
So i went online & read some review about this restaurant
so went for a try
I tried their mentai gyoza,one plate there's 6 gyoza
usually when i go to japanese restaurant,i only see pork or chicken gyoza
but they have quite a few kind to choose from
The gyoza was not very well fried .from what i saw from the menu, the gyoza should be a bit "chao ta" but this plate of gyoza look like soup dumpling, but it turned out to be very nice
not spicy also
For service,The staff was quite friendly, greet us with smile, keep refill our greentea
OVerall i rate 7/10

A bowl of ramen for you?
Smile 2012-08-12

   Sapporo Miso Ramen

Have always been a fan of Cha Shu when it comes to ramen choices, surprisingly, this bowl of miso-based ramen tasted pretty good, not too saltish! Though the serving of Cha Shu slices were not generous, I'm glad that it was soft in texture and quite tasty too. Another plus point is that the flavoured egg is cooked according to my liking, especially the best part - yolk lol

   Mentaimayo Gyoza

One unique thing about Daikokuya is that this restaurant serves some special choices of Gyoza. Hence, I have decided to forgo the original ones and ordered the Mentaimayo Gyoza (6 pcs) which are salted cod roe pan-fried dumplings with salted cod roe & mayonnaise. Indeed, it was really good, didn't know that Gyoza would go well with cod roe, crispy and crunchy at the same time!

Overall, had a quick dinner there on a weekend, good ramen experience. Would love to visit again for another Gyoza speciality!

Daikokuya Jap Ramen Dining
Just OK 2012-08-08
Both of us ordered the mix and match lunch set which consists of a bowl of ramen, a side dish and a rice bowl. The price
varies depend on the type of rice bowl. Ours cost $17.80 each. We added another $3 to upgrade our ramen to normal
bowl size. Warning: If you are not a garlic fan like my friend, please do not try this, or you will end up complaining about
garlics and struggling to finish it up. As for me, I love the soup base. It goes well with ramen and I finished it all. Both of us ordered the same side dish which is the salmon sashimis. 3 silces each, real fresh and I love the bright pink colour of it. My friend's rice bowl is unagi. He did not comment much except for being too full after eating all that ramen. Mine was the Ikura rice bowl. I was a little stunned when it came. I did not expect it to be minced and I felt like I was eating baby food. Simple and not too bad.

Daikokuya is a place for Japanese food and ramen lovers. Service is fantastic and prompt perhaps because it's not the peak hours. We had salmon sashimi and it is really fresh!!! Gyoza is crispy on the outside with tasty fillings on the inside. The meat are fresh and juicy. I had chawanmushi, a side not to be missed while visiting any Japanese restaurant. It is smooth and tasty as well. All in all, my experience here was great!

Located at Paragon, this restaurant is quite a favourite lunch place for many people around that area. The service is descent, and they serve the food pretty quick.

I have ordered the famous Tonkotsu Cha Sha Ramen, which is actually the pork-based soup ramen. The rich flavour and cloudy pork broth is very tasty. The sliced pork belly are quite tender. The ramen also comes with toppings like bamboo shoots, naruto (fish cake), chopped scallions, and kikurage (wood ear mushroom), very well-balanced meal.

   Tonkotsu Cha Sha Ramen

The soft-boiled eggs are done very well too. The texture is so good.

   Onsen egg

I also ordered the Mochii red beans dessert, with macha ice-cream. To my disappointment, the dessert is slightly too sweet.

Mini miso ramen
Smile 2011-10-13

   Mini Spicy Miso Ramen

Great tasting soup that is really thick. The chewy noodles and egg is not overly done. Only problem is that the noodles isn't separated properly. Mine has clumps. The mini size is good enough for one. $15.80 (ramen + one side). I had a 3 piece gyoza which unfortunately, I forgot to snap a picture of because it was lunch time and I only had an hour to eat and rush back to office. Would be better if the waiting time is not longer than 20 mins.

Yummy Ramen
Smile 2011-08-16

"Daikokuya serves four different styles of ramen. Each ramen style is available in a variety of soup bases for diners to choose from such as miso (fermented soybean paste), shoyu (soy flavored), shio (salt flavored) and spicy miso:

• Sapporo ramen, a chicken broth ramen served with springy and curly noodles;
• Tokyo-style ramen, a lighter version of chicken broth ramen served with springy and curly noodles;
• Kyushu-style Tonkotsu ramen, features a thick creamy pork broth ramen served with thin and straight noodles; and
• Kogashi ramen, a Kyushu specialty that consists of a thick creamy pork broth seasoned with blackish aromatic oil made from charred crushed garlic, served with thin and straight noodles, in miso or shio soup base."

Extracted from Daikokuya.sg website

We ordered: Okonomiyaki Gyoza, pan-fried dumplings with okonomiyaki sauce & mayonnaise. Available in 6 or 10 pieces, I think it cost $6.60 for 6 pieces.

Pipping hot with good condiments!

Sapporo Ramen features a thick, nutty and hearty chicken broth, topped with bean sprouts, corn, nori (seaweed), leeks, bamboo shoots, sliced cha shu (pork loin) and served with springy and curly noodles.

Kyushu Tonkotsu Ramen is a rich flavorful and cloudy pork broth served with thin, straight and resilient noodles, accompanied with toppings like bamboo shoots, naruto (fish cake), chopped scallions, sliced cha shu (pork belly) and kikurage (wood ear mushroom).

The ramen are priced $15 averagely, which is of a good reasonable price. I particularly love the kyushu tonkotsu ramen I ordered smile It doesn't has a 'porky smell' when the food loses its warmth and the soup base is bursting with flavors!

I added the sweet corn for an additional $1 ;)

The only pity of ramen is that the sliced cha shu is always so 'precious' that it usually has 2 to 3 slices in a serving ;p

Yes, I'll be back for more to try other styles of ramen.

Ramen !
Smile 2011-02-07
Daikokuya, a specialised ramen joint that would create a hike of anticipation to all ramen lovers! Promising famous ramen culture from all over Japan, a must visit joint for ramen foodie!

Was there onsite with my beloved gf for our usual Ramen hunt and we were certain to be dropping in @ Daikokuya. The joint was at its off peak period thus we were ushered to our seatings within seconds. Service is prompt with no hesitation and staff are ready and attentive for our orders. Food servings came in less than 10 mins which is acceptable. The salmon sashimi is at its freshness peak with decent marbling. Gyoza is crispy with great fillings and lastly the main, the ramen noodles are well cooked with the spongy effects. Soup base is thick but light on the tongue, topping and mixing in well with the vegetables condiments.

This is a joint not to be missed!!! Recommended for all occasions.
