My interest of peranakan food had increased ever since the Xiao Niang Re show went viral past few years back. The combination of chinese & malay cuisine into a uniquely blend.Overwhelmed by the menu given to us from Ala Carte to set meals, my colleauges and I finally decided to go ala carte and share among ourselves.Ambience was pretty neat and clean with purple as its theme color. Sofa seating PVC covers are dark purple while ceiling is painted in light purple. The cashier counter table seems pleasant and orientated. When we asked for belacan chilli to be refilled, there is no 2nd question asked and we were given 3 times the portion as before. They are generous!Ngoh Hiang: S$8.00This five spice meat balls are sufficiently tasty especially with a light tap of sweet sauce. Decorated with the chinese parsley in the bowl of 6 meat balls makes an outstanding dish out of the browish balls. Chunks of chestnut bites can be felt as we bite through the minced pork/fish meat balls. A total indulgence from Peranakan Cuisine.Beef Rendang: S$12.00Dishes are generally served in small portions suitable for 4 pax. Beef rendang arent oily as expected, meat are tender and amazingly, doesnt stuck in between my teeth. To enhance the presentation out of the brown dish, it comes with a spice leaf on top of it. A signature dish of daisy's one should not have skipped.Bakwan Kepiting: $5 x 2These meatballs served in soup are packed with minced pork and crab. Together with the crunchy bamboo shoots in the hearty prawn broth. Given a little kick with the generous portion of belacan, sets off the bouncy, crabby meatballs. Chap Chye: S$8.00The nonya style mixed vegetables looks different. Where is the glass noodle? I find none. A unique taste different from all the nonya chap chye i had tasted so far. Cabbages are braised till softness.Considering the cost of having peranakan food in singapore isnt that cheap due to the efforts and spices they used in preparation. I would say what daisy's dream kitchen had offered is considerably competitive in the market. The total amount was there then split up among four of us which costs about S$17.00 each. Pretty reasonable.Apart from all dishes, we did order barley drinks. Minimal sugar were ended in the drink and it tastes almost just barley grains but healthy.Service is responsive! The lady boss did come to our table as she do her rounds at every tables and asked if the food is alright. Friendly enough! Best of all, minimal or no MSG were used as I do not feel any thirstiness after the meal.I will be back again with my friends! continue reading

Being a true blue 100% Peranakan I have been eating peranakan food even before i could walk. I have tried peranakan food in Singapore as well as Malacca and have very high expectations everytime i step into a Peranakan restaurants. My family and cousins went there for dinner and well we heard alot of rave reviews about the place and it being dim sum dolly Selena Tan's mom's restaurant, I was really expecting alot from it. But alas.... I was utterly disappointed. Let's start from the top.Firstly, the portions were very VERY little! Each bowl looked like it was meant for just one person. Can you imagine my look of shock when they brough in 3 bowls of Buah Keluak and each bowl only had 2 nuts for the 14 of us????Second, the quality of food is just not there.... the ngoh hiang tried to be different from the usual long version by doing it into a ball but lacked the taste. The otah otah was hard unlike the usual Peranakan otah which is soft. The soup was bland.... like i was drinking plain soup and lacked the punch which usually comes with bakwan kepiting. The main disappointment was the buah keluak..... it lacked the strong taste that normally scares people away but we so dearly love....to me it just mixed into my rice and did not enhance the whole eating experience.....Lastly the price..... my god.... we have always been prepared to pay slightly more for Peranakan food but for the amount we paid (over 300 bucks) for so called "Peranakan" food, this was an ABSOLUTE total rip off! Restaurant prices in a shop house turned cafe in a hdb estate....my parents were nice to tell Daisy that her food was good but I will not keep quiet about it. "Hope to see you again" was what the staff said after dinner, in my heart I was thinking FAT HOPE! This is not one of the worst Peranakan restaurants I have eaten at before but it sure is one of the lousier ones. The only thing i enjoyed was the belachan. Let's just say if u have too much money in your pocket, do not mind average quality peranakan food and have a small stomach then maybe u can consider coming here. But for me, once bitten, FOREVER shy! continue reading

I've heard rave reviews about the Peranakan cuisine served here and decided to bring some friends to check the place out together. We ordered quite a few dishes and the taste is actually all good. The only problem for me is the price of things. The dishes tho tasty, it's serving is small. Thus, we had to order a lot of items. We ordered Daisy's Ngoh Hiang ($8), Babi Buah Keluak ($10), Black-Ink Sotong ($12) and Prawn Petai ($8) to list a few... Another downer was the price of rice. It's at $1 a bowl and it's a pretty small bowl! Not the big mound of rice given in Zichar places at all. So the 7 adults and 2 kids paid $14 just for rice! In total, we paid about $30 for a meal that my husband and I were not exactly very full from. The owners and staff are friendly and attentive but I don't think I'll return unless it's a treat. Not quite worth it's weight in gold for me. continue reading

I came across Daisy's Dream Kitchen all thanks to my wife who had watch Happy Ever Laughter. Kinda like Peranakan food myself, I would not want to give this place a miss! I chose the aircon over the open air seats as usual. The place is not entirely huge but has a touch of homely and cozy feel to it. Not to mention the rendition of Rasa Sayang in the background. The place was fairly packed and people are coming in and orders were promptly taken. The staff were pleasant and have been very helpful & friendly especially when I came in with my wife and young 2 daughters. We requested for 2 baby chairs and those were brought in promptly. When my elder daughter decided to change her mind about the baby chair, the staff removed the chair promptly. We orderly Itek Tim, Bakwan Kepiting, Babi Pongteh, Ngoh Hiang initially and added hot Pulut Hitam and Bo Bo Char Char for dessert. While waiting, we ordered the All-Time fav emping (Belinjo nut) crackers and it came with the belacan chilli dip. I do caution dipping into the chilli dip, it was real spicy. Think chilli padi spiciness! I thought that the quantity of the crackers could have a liittle bit more and perhaps in a basket instead.. The waiting time was fairly acceptable if knowing the food you are about to have was really going to be sumptuous!! And sumptuous they were! I liked the Bakwan Kepiting (clear soup with shreds of baby shoots with 3 delicious meatballs) and the Babi Pongteh very much! I do not like bamboo shoots especially the strong flavour from it. But in this case, the bamboo shoots some how came across so mild that, you get the crunchy feel with the strong flavour pleasantly removed; at least for me!). As for the Babi Pongteh, alright, it's pork bellly. Downright sinful that one. But you get the melt in your mouth, with the soft pork meat totally absorbed in the soy paste and , I believe, celery seed condiments ( almost like those used in pork dumpling). Nice! My wife noticed that Corning ware were used to serve the food. I guess the flower like motifs on the bowls on the marble table adds up to the overall ambience of the eatery. Price-wise, I felt it was reasonable for the taste and service you get. All-in-all, I just paid $48/- fort he meal inclusive of 3 plates of rice and 2 x green tea. Some might feel the quantity slightly lacking. But good stuff sometimes best when come in small portion isn't it? Even Daisy even came out checking out on the customers, inquiring how was the food and all. Overall, I would recommend this place for anyone who craves for some Peranakan food! continue reading
