mango dessert
Cries 2013-05-16

I think I know why the place is crowded after dinner because it seems to be the only place open till a little late and offered desserts to shoppers at NEX. Because the dessert we have is not nice at all. Ordered the mango shaved ice - BIG mistake. The mangoes given is pathetic (I think less than 8 pieces). The mango shaved ice is too sweet that I think i only had a few mouth and stop. I thought there will be more "goodies" hidden below the shaved ice but I was wrong. If there's something like nata de coco given with the ice, the whole dessert will taste much better.

sweet desert!
Just OK 2013-02-24

After dinner, with a craving for desert, my friend and I came to Desert Story @ Serangoon NEX Shopping Centre

A few of their specialities are Mango Sago, Yam paste with Ginko Nut, Almond Paste....

FOOD

Anyway, I ordered the Mango Sago. It was a little sour (perhaps due to the mango). However, I like the soft sago and those tiny pomelo that makes each mouthful so delicious. This bowl cost me $3.40

While my friend ordered Honeydew Sago. It's sweet and tasty. Rich in coconut and sago, it leaves behind a one-more-bowl addiction. This bowl cost $3.40 as well.

SERVICE
Self-service as they only take orders at the counter. No service charge was imposed, so naturally do not have any service from waiter/waitress ! lol

AMBIENCE
I do not really like the ambience as it's mostly noisy, like a market place. Everyone will gather there and rest their legs after some time of shopping. Besides, some people can talk really loud.

PRICE
I think the price is fair. Neither expensive nor cheap. It's fair enough to pay for such nice desert!

Dried bean curd with gingko & barley
Smile 2013-01-30

Ordered dried bean curd with gingko & barley
It costs $2.80 a bowl and I bought the hot one.
It was quite a small bowl and was considered pretty expensive for that price.
It was hot when served.(:

The ingredients wasn't a lot though, a number of gingko and a portion of barley.
The taste was nice thoughlol
Sweet and yet not too sweet. It's thick and refreshing ;D

Would love it more if it isn't that high a pricing. just would have it probably once in a while.(:

Mangooooo
Just OK 2013-01-15 (Related Review)

My boyfriend loves mangoes so we went to eat his 'mango dessert' in Dessert Story after our movie date!
So this is the Mango Snow Ice which costs approximately $4.

We find this a little expensive and don't really worth the price,
as this dessert is too sweet for us.
The ice was too much, and the mango was too little.
The mango was also 'marinated' with some sweetened sauce.

We do not like this dessert, but we will come back to try the other desserts next time smile
Service was not so bad.
However, the environment was quite crowded as Nex is a very crowded mall.

Tang Yuan
Smile 2012-12-20

As a tang yuan lover, I always crave for tang yuans occasionally.
In Dessert Story, pay $2.80 for 5 pieces of tang yuans in ginger soup.
You can top up some money if you want to have your tang yuans served in black sesame or red bean soup!!

Anyways, we can choose fillings for the tang yuans. I chose 3 sesames and 2 peanuts.
I love the sesame ones. My boyfriend ate the peanut ones because I don't eat peanuts. lol.

Rated: 8/10
Chewy and gummy tang yuans. Delicious sesame paste filling!!
I find the ginger soup too sweet though.
But overall it's quite nice lol

Service was quite good and environment was okay. There are always many people patronizing the shop! smile

50% discount using vouchers
Smile 2012-09-03

went there for post dinner desserts and at the same time check out the gundam exhibition smile. Used 2 vouchers bought from insing superdeals, paid $5 for $10 worth of voucher. Shop space seems big , able to accommodate easily 30-40 pax. i ordered loh mai kai $2.30, chendol ice $4.20 and or nee $3.50. $10 just nice and no top up required. had to collect your food from another counter after ordering. 1st impression is the dessert do not look as nice as the photos. the or nee cocunut also came in paste form and not the coconut syrup. Taste-wise i was surprised, all 3 items was too my liking with or nee impressing well. The combination of the ginko nutes, yam and coconut paste was definitely to please. The chendol ice is normal i would feel with little toppoings and kind of expensive for $4.20 and not exceptionally bug cup. Lor mai gai, i doubt its a signature item for them was decent, being not too oily and at least i got to eat proper chicken parts and mushroom.

This cheng teng is a good dessert.
It make me feel comfortable as it is abit warm with the soup.
The soup is abit like wintermelon taste. It is nice for those who have fever.
The sweetness is just right and all the ingredients inside is really good for health.

The "bai er" is also nice.
Soft and smooth.I can finish it within 1 min,it is really small in bowl but it is quite expensive.

But this is really nice.IT is abit warm with the soup. I bought the milk pudding which costs $3.20. The milk pudding is really smooth and I could taste the milk taste. It was not sweet either, just right on the taste buds. I really enjoyed the dessert and will be back to try others. Because it has abit sweet taste,it also acts as appertiser. The "bai er" is also nice. Soft and smooth.I can finish it within 1 min,it is really small in bowl. I hope it will be larger as it's price is quite expensive.

Just OK 2012-07-04

These 3 colors cake are yam cake, carrot cake and pumpkin cake.
The yam cake is not bad, quite ncie.
But i dont think it is very worth for the price. This kind of standards' yam cake can buy from hawker center too.

I dont like the pumpkin cake, because except of it's color,it dint have much of the pumpkin taste.
Feel like had been cheated.

The carrot cake is not bad,a bit of carrot taste.

Those cakes taste nicer with the sambal and sweet sauce.

Dessert Story
Smile 2012-06-24

There are more and more dessert chains in Singapore. One of them is Dessert Story. Their dessert story dated back to 2006 from a humble stall in Hougang. They have expanded and went into franchise business with chains opening up at different corners of Singapore.

The original stores were known as “Anytime Food ” and the very first store was birthed on August 2006 at Hougang. It serves great tasting Traditional Chinese Dessert (or “Tong Shui” as it is known in Cantonese) and has built up a large base of loyal customers.(source from Dessert Story website)

I have yet to try their cold dessert but for the hot dessert they were quite good. I tried both the Yam Paste and Tang Yuan dessert. For the Yam Paste, it came with gingko nuts and pumpkin which balanced the sweetness.

For the Tang Yuan, I ordered both the sesame and peanut tang yuan with peanut soup. It was a triple enjoyment tasting all the 3 different flavours. I like the concept of using peanut soup with the tang yuan instead of just eating them plainly.

Gingo Nuts with Barley and beancurd dessert
Just OK 2012-06-13 (Related Review)

This bowl of dessert taste rich and thick and each bowl has a generous serving of barley and gingo nuts. The dessert is served hot and is not too sweet. The gingo nuts are boiled just right and are not too soft. The beancurd wasn't too soft as well and blends well with the base of the dessert. Overall a good warm dessert to try for those new to dessert story.

Lovely dessert!
Smile 2012-06-13

I always love to come here for their dessert! it is so good and affordable! Had the sesame and peanut paste today and it was really good! Not too sweet and definitely authentically made and not from powder! Hate those that are made from powder and instant so this was pretty good for me! They have other traditional desserts available as well and i would definitely recommend you to try all of them!

Yam Cake
Just OK 2012-06-08

This stall sells primarily snacks and desserts ranging from snow ice to steamed cakes and soupy desserts. This plate of yam cake costs around 2 plus and is steamed and kept warm. I would say these yam cakes still taste best when it is served piping hot. The yam cake has a slightly rich yam taste and once you sink your teeth into a slice, the yam cubes and taste explodes. Seseame seeds are added to heighten the flavour of the yam cake. I however find it slightly too starchy and this might interest only those who like yam products.

Cries 2012-01-15 (Related Review)

There are hot and cold desserts here and we always wanted to try this place. So we did and regretted it. The tables are very very small and the serving sizes are also very small. The price is steep for such small servings. They usually sell out certain items so you have to decide on some other thing which you may not want. The white fungus is rather stingy in the white fungus dessert and the pieces are very small. It's also very sticky sweet. Uncomfortably small place with not very good desserts afterall.

nice variety
Cries 2012-01-15

There's a variety of desserts here. Some hot, some cold. They look good in the photos on the menu but they don't usually come to the table looking like the photo in the menu. The people at the next table actually complained that their dessert totally did not look like the picture in the menu and they were confused. The durian pengat was not very good as it was not very traditional. A bit too sweet and too rich as well. It's not cheap here and the portions are quite small. It's like a "tasting" menu. Not filling and not really recommended to bring visitors here as there is very little space.
