I have always liked to come to Food for Thought for tea time whenever i'm in the area. Avoid the busy lunch and dinner hours, and you'll have a comfortable and conducive place to have a chat with friends. I have always wanted to try the Warm Baked Cheese & Brownie Fudge after reading about it. It comes with vanilla ice cream drizzled with raspberry sauce - there was nothing special about this though. The cheese and brownie fudge is a good combination, and it doesn't taste too "jelat" and I managed to finish the whole thing.

typical brekkie place
Just OK 2013-04-30

Many Singaporeans love pretentious brunch. I only eat it because my friends want to. Anyway, this place tries to serve food with a soul, promising to donate some money to charitable projects. So I guess if you believe them, you can support them. As for the food itself, the Full Works is passable. The scrambled eggs could be fluffier and the toast could be baked till more crispy. The mushrooms are great and the bacon could be fattier like how good bacon should be. I like the sausage though; lots of meat without tasting too fake. The steak however was too tough and forgettable.

Pancake!
Smile 2013-04-23

After going to both branches of Food for Thought, i concluded that i still prefer the one at Queen streets. Perhaps, this was the place whereby i first fell in love with its pancake, or cause of its slightly cheaper price compared to the one at botanical gardens, but either way this will be the outlet i will frequent from now on.

As usual, I order the Full Works, which consist of various yummy bits that constitute what i would consider as brunch. Scrambled eggs, bacon, mushrooms, sausage, potatoes, toast, and salad. The portion is large enough for sharing among 2pax.

Their pancake is my favorite of all times. It is moist, fluffy soft, and goes great with any toppings offered!

As for the main course, i tried the baby back ribs. And i do think i am biased. I classify food for thought as a brunch place, and main courses just do not fare as well.

Dessert! There is just 2 words to describe: Peanut-butter Overdose. It is great for SHARING. Unless you intend to bring your own bread to spread the excess peanut butter.

Good place for lunch
Smile 2013-04-21 (Related Review)

Brightly lit and well decorated interior; adds on to the dining experience.

Hoisin Har Cheong Baby Back Ribs ($24). A huge rack of ribs which can be shared between two small eaters. Tender meat without much fats. Comes with Garlic Thyme Gratin and Tomato Salad, which were great as well.

Cheese Toast with Basil Pesto ($6). Considerably huge portion for a side dish. Simple toast done well and reasonably priced. Comes with Thyme Tomato Salad.

Lunch @ Food for Thoughts
Smile 2013-04-04

I had read a lot of reviews about this cafe and finally I'm here to judge for myself.

I ordered full works to share with my friend. I love all the components of Full Works especially the mushrooms, hashbrown and scrambled eggs. Mushrooms were juicy flavoursome, hashbrown was round, cute and crunchy and the scrambled eggs were fluffy. But be warn that unless you have a big appetite Full Works is better to be shared because the portion is astonishing!

Red velvet cake is the must order! It is da bomb! One of the best red velvet cake I have eaten so far! Thick and rich in chocolate.
We order butterscotch crumble and cheese baked brownie. Both were fabulous~ These desserts and cakes were really so good that we can't stop scraping them off the plate even though we were full from the mains.

A cosy cafe for catching up with friends, I bet I will come here again smile

Pretty Desserts
Just OK 2013-04-01

This was their dessert for the month of February, i guess mainly targetted at couples which explains the chocolate hearts around. Cream sandwiched between 2 pieces of shortbread, with a few pieces of raspberries and almond flakes, this dessert looks so appetizing you would want to try it no matter what (indeed, we ordered after seeing it on the other table). Nevertheless, it is good for 2 because it is overly sweet, and does not really taste as good as it looks.

FFT does not charge service charge though! And their mains are quite pricey.

They have an exceptionally artistic decorations in their restaurant.
When you first step into the restaurant, you will see glass bottles hanging down from the ceiling and not forgetting flower pots too!

I loved their Mushroom risotto but thought that their serving was a little too small for the price paid!

Their prawn linguine was good but the serving is still small.

Overall, they could improve more on their servings to make customer stay more worth while! (:

burger yum! So at $9 a pop, this was a steal! Ample chicken meat fillet spread with green pesto sauce and topped with fresh vegetables and caramelized onions. With a toasted bun.

And did I mention about those thick cut fries?
Oh my indulgence. smile

My girlfriends ordered their local delights offering of a mee rebus. It was alright but just void of any substantial ingredients.

Went to a quite popular spot among my friends, Food For Thought for lunch!

They have a huge variety of food and they serve brunch and many yummy desserts as well!

Full Works: Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Garlic Mushrooms, Chunky Chicken Sausage, Hash Brown, Toasted Brioche with Thyme Tomato Salad (SGD18)
The share's really huge so I would recommend sharing for this!
The scrambled eggs are nice and fluffy and you could taste the slight smell of butter! The bacon was quite salty but the chicken sausage, hash brown and mushrooms made up for it!

Chunky Sausage & Tomato Linguine (SGD15)
The sauce is really fresh in the sense it seems to be made from real tomatoes and not those instant paste kind! Spaghetti was al-dente and the same chicken sausage as the dish above was used!

Potato Gratin with Garlic Mushroom (SGD6)
You know how usually you'd get sick of the rich creamy and cheesy sauce for such food? It is not the case for this at all! The potatoes were very yummy!

The ambience there was pretty good, and the setting was nice. There were many wine glasses hanging upside down from the ceiling and art pieces on the walls. The staff were friendly and quick to respond when we needed help!

Food was shared among my two other friends and I and we were really full at the end. It was a pity, for we could have tried the highly raved pancakes and red velvet cupcakes there! Oh well, there's always next time! smile

Chanced upon this cafe~
Smile 2012-12-27

This cafe is a social enterprise and it serves superb breakfast. The names given to their dishes are cute too like Housework, Full Work, Basic Work and more.

Their bread is special and it is certainly a must try item over there. Hash browns are nicely fried till golden brown. Their omelette is nice even without additional pepper. However, the salad without much dressing is rather plain to me. Drinks like latte and hot chocolate are nice too.

I will strong recommend this cafe to all as it is one which serves superb all day breakfast and doing charity work at the same time.

Great place for brunch
Smile 2012-10-07

Headed to food for thought for brunch! As the place was really full, there were only outside seats. Love the ambience of the place, which is a perfect place for brunch. I ordered the Full works which costs around $18. The servings are really generous!

I love the food there. The sausage was just fried and it's not hard but tender. It's also not too salty and perfect eating it alone or matching it with the scrambled eggs. The sauteed mushroom was really good and it's one of the best I've eaten so far. I would love to try the desserts the next time!

Big portions.
Smile 2012-09-26

Hiding near some churches. The fish and chips served is in a very large portion. The fish is nicely done and fried. Taste good. Fries are chunky and just right for bites. Greens doesn't really interest me as I didn't take much of it. No comments.
Settings of the place is nice. Tables and chairs needs to be slightly bigger. Service is very good. The staffs are friendly and attentive. 1 down side is when the sun is setting. Sun light will directly shine in through the windows directly on diners. Other than that, all is good!

Red Velvet and Mocha
Smile 2012-08-21

As my hubby was returning home from work the kids called him up on his cell and asked him to by them something nice to eat. So my hubby headed over to Food For Thought located at Queen Street which seemed to be the closest and the snacks there are simply amazing and delicious. So he picked up 2 Red Velvet Cakes and since Mocha is my favorite he picked up one for me.

When he got home the kids were very anxious to see what goodies he had brought and soon began to indulge in their creamy rich Red Velvet Cake. The taste is really very good and has dark brown cake at the bottom. And my Mocha no doubt is always delicious just the way it is smile

Delish mains and desserts

For more details and pictures, please visit: http://cheesemafia.blogspot.sg/2012/08/food-for-thought-8-queen-street.html

It was no surprise to find Food For Thought completely full on a Friday night, and fortunately we made prior reservations for dinner. The outlets at Queen Street and Singapore Botanic Gardens featured two slightly different menus and I was keen to visit the cafe for its dinner menu after having patronised the place for its breakfast and dessert menu a couple of times.

Malt & Malteasers Milkshake $8.50

Decadent and rich, the milkshake was a delight at the table.

Crispy Curry-Spiced Chicken & Spicy Chilli Fries $18

The Crispy Curry-Spiced Chicken was a surprise when it arrived as the portion was huge. The chicken was served with buttery corn and thyme tomato salad. The chicken was crisp and moist with an appropriate dash of curry powder.

Tempura Soft Shelled Crab and Spicy Cream Tomato Linguine with Egg Ribbons $20
The featured dish was very well received with three people in the group ordering it and I must say that it was a wise choice. The soft shelled crab was crisp and the linguine was done al dente, just the way we like it. Some of us had the spice level customised, but the original version really isn't too spicy to begin with.

Chai Spice Brûlée Salmon $22
Served with Smoked Red Capsicum Risotto and Mango Ginger Chutney, I thought the rendition of this dish was lovely. The juicy slab of salmon was coated with an interesting top of slightly charred sweet bits which added an interesting twist fish dish. Coupled with the sweet mango chutney and savory risotto, this is one clever dish which I enjoyed thoroughly.

Pan-seared Salmon and Basil Almond Pesto Risotto $22
This is second featured dish on the special menu. I was contemplating between this dish and the Chai Spiced Brûlée Salmon and I opted for the latter after the staff's recommendation. I am glad I made the choice because this dish does seem rather ordinary in comparison to the Chai Spiced Brûlée Salmon.

Moist Carrot Cake $6
A chunky cake with carrots, shredded coconut, pinapples, walnuts and cream cheese frosting topped with toasted walnuts. I am not a huge fan of coconut so the cake did not go very well on my palette.

Old Southern Red Velvet Cake $6
The Old Southern Red Velvet Cake, on the other hand, was one of the best Red Velvet cakes that I have had to date. I loved the dense cherry vanilla pound cake beautifully layered with rich cream cheese frosting and drizzled with cherry sauce. I found myself stealing bits off my friend's plate after I abandoned my Carrot Cake.

Hazelnut Chocolate Crunch $7
Three layers of chocolate sponge with thick hazelnut chocolate, toasted hazelnuts and crispy wafer flakes, coasted with a layer of dark chocolate. I can only imagine how chocolate lovers would scream in delight at this sinfully rich cake.

Profiterole with Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream $15
We abandoned our cakes immediately when this arrived. It was huge (fork placed at the side for comparison). This was the highlight of the day with the wonderfully crisp pastry puff storing five luscious pearls of ice cream. Definitely a dish that I would return for.

Food for Thought
Smile 2012-07-19

Food for Thought serves quite a wide variety of western food and at a reasonable price. The restaurant decoration is nice and comfortable too. Service was good, and the food was nice. This one I order is The tomato based spaghetti with meatball or what we call as meatball bolognese spaghetti. The spaghetti is al dente and I love the tomato taste of it. The salad beside is also refreshing and this is such a filling meal.
