I am not really a fan of Indian cuisine but my friend loves it, and highly recommends Garden Kadhai as well. My previous visit was quite pleasant, and this time, I tried the Butter Chicken ($12), which was good; the gravy was mixed with butter, tomato puree, and other spices, thus was creamy and flavourful, and goes well with rice. The Malai Kofta ($10) was alright, was also creamy and has potatoes/veggies within. Might not be good to order both if you don't really like creamy stuff. continue reading

It's easy to miss this restaurant as it's tucked away in a corner of Serangoon Gardens. It is opposite the former location of the DBS Bank.At first glance, one may mistake this restaurant for an Indian pub, with its glitzy exterior. However, upon closer observation, you realise that it's a North Indian Fine Dining Restaurant. As we entered the restaurant that was candle-lit at every table, we were greeted by Hindi music videos that were being screened on TV screens. The menu was quite elaborate, and it took a while to go through it in detail. The friendly waiter was at hand to make some recommendations. We decided to try the Mutton and Egg Biryanis. In addition, we also ordered the Rogan Gosht and two vegetable dishes. The Biryanis came with raita ( cucumber salad in yoghurt) and papadum ( Savoury Indian cracker). The Mutton Biryan contained generous portions of tender cubes of boneless mutton. The Egg Biryani contained two hard boiled eggs. Both the Biryanis were cooked using Basmati Rice - the best type of rice to cook biryani with - and special seasonings. The biryanis smelt awesome and tasted the same, as well. They were not too oily and the taste was actually enhanced by the time of rice used. The long grains actually abosrbed more flavour, hence the more delicious taste. The Rogan Gosht, a must have in any Indian restaurant, is also a mutton dish. The dish is made up of Boneless pieces of mutton simmered in a special gravy. The dish goes well with rice and breads. The first vegetable dish that we ordered had an Oriental fusion touch to it. The Gobi Manchurian was actually deep fried cauliflower cooked in a special gravy. Soya sauce gave it an Oriental touch. It was good, but didnt go very well with the other dishes. The Dhingiri Mattar - mushrooms cooked with green peas in a special gravy -was good. The mushrooms were not overcooked and tasted great!Overall, almost all the dishes were fantastic. The Hindi music videos in the background got a little too noisy at times and the menu was a little pricey, considering the small portions.Well, I guess that's what fine dining is all about.Small portions, but big on taste..will, defi-nite-ly be back for more! continue reading
