Haha Thai is a thai restaurant which is located in Ngee Ann City. It is well known for its desserts. The restaurant is decorated in a causal and industrial way with grey color around. Tonight we have made a reservation for restaurant week. However looking through the menu and checking out entertainer mobile application, we decide to go with the staff's recommendation of having the SG50 promotion menu, which requires a minimum order of 2.We start the meal with small cups of tom yam soup, served complimentary. The soup looks clear and has a tangy taste. The SG50 meal comes with Moscato, but we change the drinks to Thai Iced Milk ($4.80) and Lemongrass ($4.80). Both are light and refreshing.Mango Salad ($8.80)The salad is light and refreshing. A great start to the meal.Haha Otah ($8.80)Homemade Mildly Spiced MackerelThe otah is meaty and chunky.TomYum Seafood Soup (Red) ($9.8)Although the serving looks small, there is prawn, mussel and mushrooms in the soup. It tastes spicy and tangy.Buttercorn Lobster ($58.80)Wild-Caught Lobster Stir Fried in Sweet CornThe sweet corn sauce tastes not bad.Dry Red Curry Chicken ($12.80)The curry is not what I have tried previously in Thai restaurants. The version here is quite thick and rich. The chicken, sliced into strips, is quite tender and flavourful.Sambal Kang Kong ($8.80)Stir Fried Thai Styled Sambal Kang KongThis dish is quite salty. Need the rice to balance the taste.Pineapple Fried Rice ($10.80)It is just plain fried rice, lacking of the wok feel.Red Velvet Lava Cake with Ice Cream ($10.80)I am quite disappointed with this dessert, especially reading so many reviews that this is a must order here. Firstly the cake does not has any lava flow. Secondly cannot taste the chocolate in the cake. Thirdly the ice cream served with it has ice chips.Remember to help yourself to the various sauces on the counter next to the cashier. Besides sliced chilli, chilli sauce, there is also fish sauce, minced garlic and lime juice too.If you show the staff that you have liked the restaurant's facebook or instagram, you will be served a complimentary dish of Thai Fried Fish cake ($5.80/ 4 pcs). It tastes slightly spicy with some stuffing in it.Please take note the wet tissues on the table as part of the table setting is chargeable at $0.30++ per piece. I dislike restaurants which do not tell customers about these hidden charges. I get a rude shock during billing as the bill is over $100 before tax and service charge. It turns out that the meal is $50++ per person, not $50++ per meal as I have thought previously. I would prefer that the staff has told customer clearly especially when an order for 2, there is only one dessert.Overall the food is average. The place is packed during dinner time. So best make a reservation before coming. continue reading
