We actually heard about IDLE while idling at home and scouting for good deals on Qoo10.sg. That's where we idled our way to IDLE after purchasing 4 x 50% vouchers ($20 for $40) and celebrated a friend's birthday on our visit - double the goodness!Dempsey lovers will be familiar with the serene forested sights of the hill (complete with orchestras of cricket altos and toad bassists at night). Indeed, we were treated to the same musical arrangement later that evening although our story actually began much earlier at 6pm (just when they opened doors for the hungry dinner crowd).The first sight that greeted us was a chic and contemporary ebony setup complete with distinct dining and bar sections. The next sight came in the form of two electronic dartboards that really illuminated the place ("obiang", some would have it). This illumination, however, would soon find its way into our undivided attention, since we were waiting for a friend (ETA - 1 hour ). We had so much fun with the darts, not giving a care towards embarassing ourselves in front of scores of patrons who had slowly filled up the place - which would make IDLE great for parties and gatherings although reservation is a must-must. "Wait!! This doesn't seem like a food review." Well, you're half correct. As with our other reviews, neither food nor ambience alone (or combined) should dictate any decent review without providing some form of context so readers can really get as close as to what we were experiencing in the process of each review (i.e. we don't conjure scores out of thin air leaving you going "how on earth did that happen?").Moving on, the darts not only zipped time through, but our hunger levels as well. Coupled with the slow service that seemed as reactive as a rubber ball to electricity, it was no wonder we (one guy and three gals - petite might we add) ordered hearty portions including: their signature Pork Knuckle (which we felt deserves its fame, even to the extent of "dabao-ing" the bone to boil soup for tomorrow's lunch ^u^), Ribeye Steak (which we found pretty palatable albeit being somewhat greasy), Seared Duck Breast (flavourful, but a tad salty even for salt sprinklers like us), Crab Bruschetta (the waiter had assured us it was authentic crab meat, but it turned out to be what you would get from a Delifrance croissant with seafood filling T.T), and three desserts including: Irish Tiramisu (we unanimously thought that this was a winner - the bitterness of cocoa powder fused with generous amounts of Baileys and a crisp layer of ladyfingers that had hints of hazelnut and toffee), Molten Chocolate Cake (enough flavour, not enough lava), and Profiteroles (little cream-filled pastries that melt oh-so-good in your mouth).As the meal came to a close, we toured Dempsey Hill, carrying along that knuckle bone as memories of an otherwise satisfactory meal, but not at level of the ninth heavens.Total Damage? $162.80 (but we paid only half, remember?). Good Memories? Pork Knuckle, Tiramisu and darts. Not-so-good memories? Service time and that "Crab-stick" filled Bruschetta. continue reading
