We got the massive 1.2kg slab of meat and we were worried that it would E either undercooked (too thick) or overdone (too thick). But they handled it well and the result is crispy seared exterior with rather tender interior. You can even see the pink! The flavour of the meat is actually enough to not need the pepper sauce on the side. Speaking of sides, I really enjoyed the coleslaw and crunchy potato salad. Their Mac & Cheese is no bad too. Overall an excellent place to get your beef steak fix without frills. Good too because you don't pay for the extras here. 👍🏼👍🏼 continue reading

Full ISteaks Diner review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2015/04/isteaks-diner.htmlISteaks Diner at Serangoon Gardens has been in operation for over half a decade now. Starting out as a small stall within a corner coffeeshop, selling affordable yet tasty hawker western food, ISteaks Diner saw quick success and popularity, so much so that they've since upgraded to a air-conditioned store of their own within Serangoon Gardens MyVillage shopping mall.Ambience at ISteaks Diner is modern, functional, and slightly garish, with colours of red and silver against white and black. The atmosphere is akin to a casual dining place, with functional furniture that isn't too comfortable for long periods. As an upgraded former hawker stall, the level of cleanliness of the interior is also below par of other cafes, there is typically a slight sense of uncleanliness here. However, ISteaks Diner has the benefit of lots of natural lighting during the day, as well as some semblance of a view of the street.Service at ISteaks Diner is largely self-service. You'll have to queue, place your orders, and make payment over the counter. Purchase of drinks is also done self-service, but at a separate counter. Collection of utensils and setting the table is also done by yourself. However, staff will help to clean dirty / empty plates and tables, though they don't perform it thoroughly. Orders are still served to your table. Staff interaction is very minimal, and on rare occasions, the wrong orders are served to your table, so do check before eating.Food at ISteaks Diner is standard western food hawker style. Portions are large, and rather generous, with each order of a main, 2 sides dishes are provided. The menu is varied, with a good selection of options for both main dishes and side dishes. Taste is pretty good as well, I find each component of every dish I tried to be well executed so far. Prices are affordable and wallet friendly, budget about SGD $20 per person for a meal at ISteaks Diner, including drinks. The Pork Chop With Mashed Potatoes & Cream Spinach (SGD $18), or US Pork Loin Steak, features a perfectly grilled, thick slab of pork chop. Fresh and clean, with a savoury taste, the pork is still moist, and has a thin layer of fat running along the side that is easily removed. Served with a slightly salty mushroom sauce on the side. The mashed potates are generously portioned, soft and semi-smooth with a savoury gravy, with an aroma of herbs. The cream spinach is nicely soft but not limp or dry, still moist, and you're able to taste the freshness, although the cream sauce is rather one-note.The Beef Steak With Chopped Green Salad & Crunchy Potato Salad (SGD $19), or NZ Striploin 250g, features a thick slab of beef steak, done to your liking. I got it medium well, and it turned out well executed, with a slight pink center and nice grill char on the outside. Savoury, meaty, thick, and still juicy, although slightly more resting would help the meat retain the juices better, when cut, it flows right out. Served with a slightly salty, but spicy, black pepper sauce on the side. The chopped green salad of lettuce, carrots, and cherry tomatoes lend a bright, fresh burst to the plate, and a nice textural crunch. The crunchy potato salad is aptly named, the small round discs of potatoes crunch loudly, and the thin slices keep it light so you don't feel too full. continue reading

Welcome to iSteaks Diner, a coffeeshop stall which repackage and relocated in My Village at Serangoon Garden. iSteak diner offer affordable and at the same time maintain quite a good standard of taste for western food. It is usually packed at the weekends especially after 7pm. Variety of food selection from beef to fish, burgers, pasta and even finger food. All mains come with 2 choice of side dishesThere is food counter and a separate drink counter, hence you have to queue at both counters to get your food and drink I ordered a water chestnut drink - super sweet........Medium well NZ Ribeye 180g with mushroom sauce. Oh, you can choose to have black pepper sauce too. Sides are Macaroni & cheese and Baked potato. The Macaroni & cheese taste ok, slightly undercooked. The baked potato is literally baked in an oven and served hot. Outer skin is slightly crisp, not easily removed Honey ginger chicken with garden salad and baked beans. Chicken was nicely cooked with a jest of sweetness due to the honey, but cant really taste the ginger. Salad taste alright but the baked beans was a disappointment, too starchy and taste like some bottled chili sauce. Totally put off.....Photogenic Food... Medium cooked Ribeye. Well, looking by this colour i think it is close to what i want.Verdict: 3 /5Food taste normal, nothing really "Wow" about the food. The only good part is that service is prompt and price is relatively cheaper than some of the restaurant in Singapore. Staffs are friendly and they direct us to help ourselves to the cutlery. continue reading

For those wondering what happened to iSteaks after the coffeeshop it used to be located in transformed into Tom Yum Kung Fu, they have just been relocated into Level 2 of myVillage @ Serangoon Gardens which is located just opposite the road across where it used to be at. Much of the menu remains similar, with prices kept low despite a small increase due to it being located in the shopping centre now. Apart from grill items, there are also pasta and burgers available as well. Interestingly, the beverages counter located at the side not only offers wine but also canned soft drinks, chrysanthemum tea and even Nanyang Kopi that the uncle manning the counter pulls with a sock, much like in a coffeeshop. My dining partner chose the Mushroom Chicken ($8.40). Each grilled dish comes with two side dishes, or in iSteaks’ terms “complements” like in Aston’s. She went for the Mac & Cheese and Baked Potato; the Mac & Cheese came with a thick though not really gooey cheese sauce that was cheesy, while the Baked Potato was soft and fluffy and came with a slab of butter to enhance its flavour. What would be better is to add bacon bits just for the savoury flavour. The chicken was tenderly grilled and covered with brown gravy that contained much mushrooms for a bite. The other dining partner chose the Barbecue Chicken with Mac & Cheese and Onion Rings ($8.40). Same tender chicken smothered in thick, smoky BBQ sauce. The Onion Rings reminded me of the good ol’ days of Burger King where their Onion rings were crispy and came with strips of onion.Since the ladies opted for chicken dishes, I went for the Lemon & Dill Fish ($9.40) which was not too bad either. The Pan-fried fish was crusty on the exterior and flaky within, with the Lemon Dill providing a light tint of sourness that I found rather refreshing. My choice of Cream Broccoli was a bit of a mistake though; no doubt well executed with soft and tasty greens, the vegetables pretty much seemed like they should not even come with the cream in the first place. For more photos and the full review, please visit: http://jiaksimipng.wordpress.com/2014/05/19/isteaks-diner-myvillage-serangoon-gardens/ continue reading

My friend who lived nearby recommend this place to me, its something like aston where you choose a main and get 2 sides with it. Even the price is around the same as aston.I ordered pepper chicken for $7.50 and i choose baked potato and coleslaw.Their chicken is good, well marinated and the pepper sauce is rich. Baked potato is very well done the potato is not too hard nor soft. The butter that they use with it taste so good! Coleslaw is fresh too. Overall, I'm satisfied with the standard of food. However i will not patronize this place often due to the bad service. Their staffs don't smile and keep giving a black face and also got out order wrong. continue reading
