Introduction
Joe & Dough was founded in 2009 with the dream to make good coffee and sandwiches accessible to everyone. We don't do a whole lot, but what we do, we do it right with a great deal of care, sincerity and pride. We like to turn the daily routine of coffee and sandwiches into a bespoke treat. From sourcing the best Arabica beans that we grind on demand to insisting on baking our own breads and choosing only the finest ingredients, we serve coffee and food that we are genuinely proud of. Ultimately, we believe that there is no secret ingredient for great taste, just good, honest food and coffee made by people who care. continue reading

Full Joe & Dough review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2015/01/joe-dough.htmlAlthough they've been around since 2009, Joe & Dough has only recently started expanding, becoming more prominent. Offering artisinal coffee in a casual, comfortable setting, and freshly baked bread that is handmade daily, Joe & Dough husband-and-wife founders Damien Koh and Dawn Wee even contribute to charity by donating any unsold food to Food From The Heart.Ambience at Joe & Dough is laid-back and rustic, with warm lighting against wood and earthy colour tones. Most of their outlets feature open spaces, great for people watching, and comfortable furniture for relaxing. And while their menu boards don't have pictures, you can always look at the clear display counter where all their appetizing sandwiches and pastries are on display.Service at Joe & Dough stands above your average coffee franchise. For starters, staff are friendly and welcoming, not mechanical, and quick to fulfill orders. Secondly, they also serve your food tableside, while other coffee joints typically require you to self-service. Pretty good!Food at Joe & Dough comprises mostly of drinks, sandwiches, and dessert pastries. All breads and pastries are freshly baked daily, and Joe & Dough even supply to other popular cafes! However, their menu variety is rather small. Portions are decently sized for 1 person, and prices are relatively affordable as compared to elsewhere, budget about SGD $14 or so per person for a sandwich and a drink.Their dedication to serving good coffee shows in the Cafe Latte (SGD $4.90). Arabica coffee beans are house roasted in small batches, and only ground upon order, ensuring a strong, full-bodied, solid taste, and a fragrant aroma. The Ham & Cheese Croissant (SGD $4) is straightforward, featuring savoury honey baked ham and gooey Swiss emmental cheese, stuffed with a flaky, buttery croissant. The croissant bread is fluffy and soft, tearing apart easily, and the flaky outer layer shatters when cut / bit. Very good, though I wish for more slices of honey baked ham within! The Bacon Mushroom Melt Zopf (SGD $8.20) combines lean, savoury back bacon, crunchy sauteed onions, gooey Swiss emmental cheese, and juicy, earthy roasted mushrooms within a soft, buttery zopf. I loved the contrasting savoury, earthy, and sweet tastes within, and the zopf bread is so soft and chewy! continue reading

I know that Joe & Dough (serving good and honest handcrafted coffee) has been around for a while, but I never got around to visiting it till today. Acclaimed to serve good coffee (even *Damien held praises for it!) and delectable pastries by hands of dedicated bakers - with no shortcuts, no preservatives and no mass producing - well , we shall see about that hmmm...Nestled along the long aisle at Orchard Central / Orchard Gateway, this open-concept cafe is a cross between rustic and hipster, yet retains a class of its own.The Blueberry Yogurt Tart (SGD$6.50) was a real treat and a palate cacophony of divine textures orchestrated into one - smooth yogurt center that was soft like tofu but creamy as dream, juicy fresh blueberries to balance the sweetness of the crust, and crunchy crust made of ...digestives biscuits (strong flavor), making this dessert almost a sinless choice.Next, we gave the Strawberry Custard Tart (SGD$5.00) a shot - because it looked so pretty. Well, the base was a little hard, as were the frozen flowers of chocolate sauce and custard. We loved the flavor of this concoction though, and the dark chocolate eaten with juicy strawberries was an absolute delight. Finally, we tried the Coconut Tart (SGD$3.90) just for fun - it was inexpensive, and it sounded interesting enough. We just didn't expect to be swooned by this deceptively simple-looking pastry. The crust was crispy - granted, and there was a very light coating of brown sugar toasted to crunchiness on it. The inside was fluffy, and filled with real grated coconut flesh - it was ohmygod delicious, the exotic sweetness of coconut combined with the crunchy feel when one chewed on the grated coconut bits. For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/09/tea-break-at-joe-dough-cafe-orchard.html continue reading
