Seaweed salad
Smile 4 days ago

Ma maison seaweed salad is a refreashing and delicious salad that is light on the palatte. Love the seaweed, shredded egg strips, sliced ham strips and of course the fresh lettuce leaves. Baby tomatoes are also found in the salad and this salad is really light and one can go on eating this dish without feeling bloated. Love the colours in the salad and this dish is really nice with the sauce.

Fruit Tarts
Smile 2013-05-01 (Related Review)

This is my second visit to Ma Maison to try their fruit tarts for tea. Their fruit tarts are very appealing, nicely decorated with fruits. They have many different flavours, but I chose the red and green grapes tart. You can taste the crunchy grapes in every bite, and the cream does not taste too fattening. Their fruit tart is comparatively better than that from Fruit Paradise, and one can easily finish the whole thing.

Fusion of jap and western
Just OK 2013-04-19

Interesting fusion of jap and western food, Ma Maison was recommended by a few of my friends; especially for their fruit tarts, which I didn't try but definitely will on another occasion, they sure look appetizing. Tried the baked doria (baked rice); I think there was a combination of cream and cheese, and I didn't particularly like the cream/sauce they used. Portion of seafood was alright. There's always a very long queue for dinner, do go early to queue.

Dinner at Ma Maison
Smile 2013-04-10

I have always wanted to try this place at Bugis Junction but got a little deterred by its price last time(poor student XD).

After a week of long hours of crazy over time, I went shopping with my colleagues and had dinner at Ma Maison!

We shared a nice soup and salad. We had their fruit tart for dessert which was really tasty and nice.

I will definately go back to try other dishes.

French/Japanese Cuisine
Cries 2013-04-05

From the name I thought the restaurant was French food, but upon scanning the varieties on the menu, it was clear that there was some Japanese flavor to it.

Was there on a weekday during lunch so there were lunch sets available. I believe the specials change everyday. Lunch hour was rather busy and the servers were rather flustered.

I always like to order Escargot whenever it's offered on the menu

Escargot Dish was served hot with the fancy shell holders

Close up of the escargot

The garlic that came with the escargot was rather crisp. I think I prefer escargots served and baked in the oven with butter as opposed to how it was prepared here.

The cheese didn't quite melt in the French Onion soup and I thought that it might have come in the puff pastry. It was rather salty, so the bread was pretty much all gone before I realized that I was on my last bite. It's a pity as i believe the bread would have been a good complement to hte squid ink pasta

The tomato soup was slightly disappointing. It felt like it came in a can. I guess I appreciate it when it feels like a lot of effort is put into the dish that you're consuming. At least it wasn't Cream of Tomato (powder)

I think I was more let down by the main courses

If I don't recall correctly, the Hamburger Steak was one of their specialty/highlights. The meat was composed of minced beef and I guess I was let down by the quality of the meat and presentation of the dish.

The Japanese hardly gets the squid ink wrong as they even sell squid ink pasta in their supermarkets. Mushrooms were a nice addition to the dish, but I felt like there was very little squid pieces.

The fruit tarts look amazing and I saw a lot of people ordering it.
If I go back, I believe that would be on my to order list and I'd probably go there for tea.

Jap style Western food
Smile 2013-03-05

Read from reviews online that the pork tonkatsu don ($15.90) is a must try.

I agree, the pork is crispy and tasty, however, some might find it to be a tad tough. The portion is big and value for money. The decor in the restaurant is unique and cosy. However, the restaurant is always crowded so do be sure to go down early. I liked the green tea ice cream (not pictured) that we had for dessert, although I am not usually a fan of green tea.

Ma Maison Review
Smile 2013-01-18

A key which was given to us so that we can bring it to the cashier to make payment after we finished eating.

Here are the food I ordered with my friends!

Ecargots Baked With Garlic Butter (SGD9.50)
*slurps*
No snail-ey slimy taste at all.
Taste like sotong actually!!
Garlic butter was strong but yummy. smile
Look at the fire underneath, the waiter will light it up when the escargots are being brought to the table.

Gratin With Prawns and Scallops (SGD13.90)
One of the must-tries from the reviews I read online but it wasn't good.
Perhaps only on that day itself the standard drop? D:

Chef's Pizza (SGD13.50)
Average only!

"Tonkatsu" (Pork Cutlet) (SGD15.90)
Another one of the must-tries from the reviews I read online.
The sauces were nice and I love the mashed potato. smile
But the pork cutlet was kind of tough. :/

Ma Maison Spaghetti (SGD15.20)
Sweet sauce tasting spaghetti.
Okay only. Pass.

Cuttlefish Ink Spaghetti (SGD15.90)
One of the must try if you ever go Ma Maison!!!
Don't care about how your lips and teeth may stain because it's really worth it!!
Super niceeeeeeee. lol

Beef Stroganov Butter rice (SGD14.80)
Super good!!
Another one I recommend to try!!!
Meat so tender, egg just right and rice so fragrant with slight hint of butter.
Sauce completed everything, with onions somemore. smile

Because I went with a group of friends, we ended up spending $20 and getting to try so much dishes! smile

Blueberry Tart
Smile 2012-07-15

This blueberry tart fromk this restaurant is one of my favourite dessert from their dessert menu. The presentation of it may look very simply and unattractive, but once you have your first bite of it, you will be craving for me. The tart pastry is very crunchy and fragrant. The blueberry filling is very smooth and not too sweet, which is full of the fresh blueberry fruit mixed in it. Have it with a cup of the premium coffee wil certainly make your day a very fruitful one.

Fantastic dessert, good pasta and sour Coffee
Just OK 2012-07-03

The queue outside the bugis junction branch is basically crazy, it took about 30 mins before we got in on a weekday night. When we were in, I realized why. There are many couples but the tables are mostly for 4 pax and above. At least half the shop is filled with 2 people sitting on a 4 seater table. The owner should better allocate its space and seats to ensure other customers do not have to wait too long.

Environment is fantastic, dimly lighted with a tint of old colonial deco. Great place to bring your girlfriend.

I ordered the salmon pasta, it is not bad not I won't give it 5 star and I must say I expected more out of the price tag to it.

We ordered dessert next and had a Strawberry Short Cake, it is great. The coffee to follow next is just horrible. It has a nice roasted smell but is sour on the taste bud.

Ma Maison
Just OK 2012-07-02

I find that the food in Ma Maison don't really pair up to their designs. The furnishes and ambience is awesome, photos in menu are great as well but when it comes to the real thing, i was pretty disappointed. In conjunction with the prices, i really feel that the food here is way over priced as the quality wasn't that great. I had their pasta. The pasta was well cooked and the ingredients were all fresh and nice but nothing too fantastic to rave about.

Japanese Western Meal
Smile 2012-06-19

Good food and nice ambience - this is my impression of the japanese restaurant that serves western cuisine. Ordered the dory fish set lunch which consists of bread (you can also choose to have rice instead of bread), main course and drink for $12.90++. If you are a dessert lover, you can top up $4.80 to get a choice of the tarts. Personally, I love the bread as it is warm and crunchy when served. The tart is also a must try as it tastes really good! In short, it is a great dining experience and I will strongly recommend one to visit this place!

Cute Japanese-styled western restaurant
Smile 2012-06-14

Unlike your typical washoku (traditional-style Japanese food) restaurant, Ma Maison is a yōshoku (Western-influenced Japanese food) restaurant.

There was always a queue everytime I visit the place. That day, I went at 7.30pm but the queue was already snaking out of the restaurant. Usually the counter seats are free, if you would rather have your meal faster that's your seat of choice.

The interior of the restaurant is dim (or romantic). The interior design looks like a cottage somewhere in Europe.

We ordered quite a lot of food. I settled for omurice with ketchup.

   Yummy omurice

The appetizers came earlier and we were given cold plates for it. That was really thoughtful.

My omurice also came early. It was fantastic. The egg was not as runny as I hoped it would be but the ketchup and the rice mixed really well. The ketchup doesn't clash with the rice but gives it a yummy sourish taste.

My friend's tonkatsu was fried perfectly as well. The sauce that comes along gives it an interesting sweet and sour taste.

We brought along a cake to celebrate a birthday. Although most places have a "No Outside Food" rule, Ma Maison wasn't strict with our cake. The staff kept asking us if we want to keep our cake in the fridge. At first, we said it was ok to leave it outiside. But after the third time, we let them keep the cake cool. Later, they took it out and handed us plates.

Service is OK but we had to wave down the staff most of the time. It would have been better if our water were refilled every time our glass is empty.

Nice Ambience
Just OK 2012-04-28

   Nice ambience

The place has a old-fashioned style and it was rather homely.

    Escargots Baked With Garlic Butter

SGD 9.50
Had a strong butter taste but it was chewy and tasted good with a little hint of garlic

   Gratin With Prawns and Scallops

SGD 13.90
It had a creamy taste but not too strong, it is worth a try!

   Beef Stroganov Butter rice

SGD 14.80
Sauce was salty but the rice was tasty. Beef was tender and was addictive! Beware! Haha

   Cuttlefish Ink Spaghetti

SGD 15.90
Spagetti was chewy but this dish was a bit messy because of the squid ink. However, the squid ink was just right, not too bad a dish!

   Chef's Pizza

SGD 13.50
An average pizza

   Tonkatsu

SGD 15.90
The pork was tough! However, the side dish was good and if you add the brown sauce provided, it was much nicer! Also, the side dish was a great change of taste as all the food there are rather salty.

   Ma Maison Spaghetti

SGD 15.20
This is a no-no dish if you go Ma Maison, I felt that it was a waste of money. The noodles were salty and it tasted like any fried noodles you can find in hawker centre.

Belated birthday celebration
Smile 2012-04-14

   Beef stroganoff butter omu rice

It was my belated birthday celebration after work. Four of us including myself decided to have our dinner at Ma Maison Bugis. I have heard of this place but have never try it as it's always filled with people and long queue. This outlet is quite small too as even when we got there around 6 plus, the place was packed and we had to queued till nearly 7 before getting a seat. All of us ordered a main course each and i decided to try the Beef stroganoff butter omu rice that my friend highly recommended! lol As shown in the picture, it came with mushrooms! Another of my favourite food to have as i always find mushroom complementing in meals. The beef was tasty and i love the sauce that came with it. Best of all, this has one of the loveliest omu rice that i've seen. I love the eggy sauce like egg covering the rice tongue I finished every single of it and couldn't wait for another gathering with my friends there smile But i don't think it would be the case unless it's some occassion as it was quite ex in my opinion. The bill came at around $80 plus going $90! However i have the special priviledge of not chipping it as it was his belated present to me lol

Nice pictures but differing food quality. Was expecting much more from them after eating at fruit paradise and considering the price. the nicely decorated restaurant puts much emphasis on small details, making the dining experience unique. Would be better if they do put more emphasis in R&D of their product.
