I always thought that MK Restaurant only sells Steamboat until I walked pass one weekend Lunch and say MK Restaurant also selling Set Lunch at affordable prices. I ordered the Roasted Duck Set at $6.99. The presentation of the Roasted Duck Rice was grand, with separate bowl of gravy. The Roasted Duck smelt good with charred skin aroma. The duck skin was crispy but not fatty while duck meat was tender and moist. I liked the special gravy for the roasted duck. The gravy was not the same as local roasted duck stalls. The special gravy was not thicken with cornstarch. It had a fermented bean taste and mild salty with a hint of lime skin. The staff in this restaurant was friendly and attentive, when I had used up all the gravy, the staff came over to refill the gravy.Overall, I liked the Roast Duck from MK Restaurant, the Roasted Duck meat had the same good taste despite being leaner in the meat. continue reading

Visit http://www.umakemehungry.com/2014/05/mk-restaurants.htmlFor those who have been to Thailand, you would probably know of such famous steamboat restaurant by the name of MK. Established since 1986 and now with a number of food chains in Thailand, MK is considered successful after facing challenges from its competitors of similar industry. For those who have not try, MK first outlet is located in Somerset 313 and the 2nd in Westgate. MK generally serves a mixture of Thai and Chinese cuisine. The main menu features Thai-style suki that is a hot pot of fresh meats and vegetables.I took the opportunity and ordered their Shabu Mixed Slice Meat set for 2 pax. With Technology advancement, MK had invested some amount on electronic menu similar to what we had in one of the local sushi bar chains. Requests and orders sent were all attended promptly by the servers. While those who still prefer to have the feel of flipping the menu, dont worry, MK restaurants still have the hard copies available. For the stock, I had the both the choices with the pot half filled with chicken stock and the other Tom Yum Soup. The chicken soup was not greasy. I preferred Tom Yum as it was very appetizing and spicy which was a good stomach warmer especially on a rainy day.Every table has an induction cooker in-built and electricity is controllable at the side of the table. Assorted vegetables include, mushrooms, jews' ears, tofu, bak choy, pumpkins, carrots, sweetcorn, Tang Hoon and Japanese seaweed.Three types of meat, pork , chicken and beef was given. They were fresh and thinly sliced. For those who enjoy the Japanese way of eating, they can dipped these cooked slices into the eggs given.Noodles and rice are add on depending on individuals. To filled the stomach, we ordered a bowl of rice and we were surprised to see that the rice came in cone shape.Besides enjoying the steaming pot of food, trying the MK Sauce is a must as this is their signature Suki Sauce imported straight from thailand using their secret recipe. It went very well with those thin slices of meat and the taste was sweet, sour with Thai Spiciness altogether, bringing perfection to every bite. Last but not least, MK do have other attractive items on the menu which includes Hong Kong Style Roast meat as well as Dim Sum. continue reading

My very first time trying Mk despite there is another outlet at somerset. I had tried it once in phuket and think i prefer the one in phuket regardless of price or the standard of food. The manager and the staff are all friendly, in fact he went around the table to explain the kind of sauces available to his customers. The sauce is what that make MK special, cause you will not able to find the same kind of sauce outside. I ordered a plate of MK special at $34 and mixed soup based at $10.90 plus green noodles which i can't remember how much. In total, i spend $50plus alone, which is very expensive for a meal, hence, it is recommended to go bigger group. The tom yum is quite unique, much more sour than you expect. MK special consists of all ingredients from vegetables to meat so it is recommended for people that do not know what to order. Their roast duck was nice (i remember when i ordered a lot when i was in phuket), however, i didn't try in Singapore MK as i was too full to continue. Another thing i like was the dumplings, actually i thought they are all frozen but i was wrong. I will definitely come back again with my friends. Ps: i also get a 10% discount card and free plushie for their opening. continue reading
