For more reviews, visit http://www.umakemehungry.com/2015/05/nam-kee-fried-prawn-noodle.htmlCrowd of Nam Kee Fried Prawn Noodle is a usual norm during dinner times and often because of their long waiting hours I skipped the chance of joining the queue. The stall is easily noticeable with the stacks of empty paper boxes piling up, covering portion of the stall.I heard a fair bit about this stall from my friend who stayed in Clementi all these while and comments for the stall did not really tally the scene - the queues. On top of that though I have tried their fried prawn noodle couple of years back, I could not really remember every bit of its taste. And just this afternoon, opportunity strikes as the queue was not that long. I ordered the smallest portion available at $4 and apparently the wok had filled with readily fried Prawn Noodle which made ordering a breeze. Looking into the kitchen where the prawn noodle was, I felt intimidated as the guy with red and green tattoos all over scooped up the portion onto my plate. Yellow noodles looked soggy on my plate and presentation was unappealingly. Nevertheless, the man who took my order gave me a scoop of red chilli paste on the plate with 2 limes as add-ons. Food tasted alright with fresh ingredients (Sotong and prawns) but texture was soft and lumpy. It seemed that the noodle had absorbed every bit of the stock taste, unfortunately, overdoing it, sacrificing the noodles' texture. In such instance, the usual sticky and thick gravy were all absent. Could this be one of the time that the noodles are totally inconsistent? If not, why are there queues every night? Perhaps another trip here would tell me more.

It has been quite awhile since the last time I had fried prawn noodles, at least half a year I guess. Happens to be at Clementi and so I went around, finally settle with this one.Price range from $4-$6 so I choose the smallest ($4) and was told to wait 10 minutes. Well I have a bit of time so I'm okay.Actually never wait for quite long. About 5 minutes and is served up. The auntie who served up the noodles asked me to squeeze the lime and have it hot. Cute. Usually I don't but since she said so, I will just try it out. There is squid, prawns and eggs in it. The squid is well cooked, not too soft and not too hard. Just nice and chewy. The prawns, though not the freshest but it is also well cooked. We tend to encounter at times some harden prawns and squids, either overcooked or not fresh. But here at Nam Kee, is good and I can't asked for more. Overall, the plate of fried prawn noodles aka hokkien mee is tasty. Thumbs up for their chilli. Not too spicy and is just right for me.

This stall has one of the longest queues in this food centre. I ordered the $5 portion to take away. The waiting time was about 15 minutes. The yellow noodle and thick bee hoon were nicely braised in tasty prawn stock then stir-fried it well with fresh tasting ingredients like prawns and sotong with egg to give it the full flavor. It tasted best if goes with their homemade sambal chilli. Unlike some, no slices of pork belly or fried pork lards are added to make it a healthier choice. And, this is still one of the best fried prawn noodle that i ever eaten.

My all-time favourite Hokkien Prawns noodles come from Nam Kee as the noodles is simmered in the prawns broth till it dry. At this point of time, the noodles is very flavorful as it has soaked all the goodness of the prawns broth. The sambal chilli is also great as when it is mixed with the noodles, it tastes awesome. There were also generous amount of prawns and sotong in this fried hokkien mee.

The queue can be anticipated at this stall if you come during dinner. This is the drier version of fried prawn noodle. The texture is moist but not wet. Their ingredients like prawns and sotong have got a noticeable freshness. The noodle is served with the sambal chilli together with the red cut chilli. The portion is quite little and is not too filling. The minimum order is $4 onward.
