It's has been a long time since I have tasted a plate of fried Hokkien Noodle that leave me on high notes. Nam Sing Fried Hokkien Mee in Old Airport Road Food Centre probably do not need much introduction as they are known for being one of the "Must Try" there but do expect a little wait there if you are ordering. The estimated time given by the stall assistants during my visit was around 45 minutes but since we have traveled a long distance from our home, we decided to wait and ordered other food meanwhile. Style of Nam Sing Fried Hokkien Mee uses yellow noodle with thin bee hoon of ratio 1:1. What I like about their style was that the stock from the prawn broth is not too cloying, the amount was in right amount, rich but not too creamy.Sweetness consistency was well balance in every savoury bite. Besides, another part that I like most was the pieces of egg found among the noodles. Ingredients given was also generous.Cut chilli was provided instead of those chilli paste or belachan. For those who want to add in more taste, squeeze some lime juice over them or add in the chilli. So far, Nam Sing Fried Hokkien Mee is the best on my list.More reviews available at www.umakemehungry.com continue reading

Some say that they serve the best Hokkien Mee in Singapore, so of course I had to go down to give it a try sooner or later! I went down on a Sunday afternoon and guess what, the owner told me I had to wait for 1.5hrs for my food! It sounds extremely ridiculous, but I had come all the way here just to try their Hokkien mee, so I decided to just wait. Thankfully, we got our plates of Hokkien mee in 20 mins! We ordered the $3 portion for each of us and the portion was REALLY LITTLE - it was like a starter for me?! But serving portion aside, this Hokkien mee is truly the best that I've tasted.Nam Sing's version is different from many others in that they use thin bee hoon instead of thick bee hoon, and is served wet, immersed in extremely flavourful prawn stock that has been reduced to something like a gravy. This means that all the noodle strands have absorbed all the lovely seafood flavours, but the noodles did not turn soggy at all. How wonderful is that! As Nam Sing is really far from where I live, I don't think I'll go down again just to have their Hokkien mee. However if I'm in the vicinity, I will definitely return to slurp up more of their yummy noodles and prawn stock/gravy! If you've not tried it yet, you should make a trip down soon! continue reading

I've waited for at least half an hour for my plate of Hokkien Fried Mee out of curiosity...The taste was fairly okay but definitely nothing very fantastic about it...Well, perhaps the plus point here is that the stall does not use lard so their food is probably a healthier choice but that this reason is simply not strong enough to make me queue again...There's no need for sambal, just some sliced chilies... continue reading

The FoodI ordered a plate of fried Hokkien mee served on paper plate and sprinkled with freshly cut red chilli. The secret of the fantastic noodles lies in the skilled way it is fried until extraordinarily springy in consistency and fragrant and flavorful, yet not overly soggy or oily. The freshly cut red chilli enhances the outstanding flavour of the noodles making every mouthful simply irresistible. Though combined with fresh prawns and sotong, the noodles are so fantastic hence you can eat it on its own without any sambal chilli at all.The PriceReasonably priced at $3 onwards per plateOverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this! continue reading

This food stall is busy! They get more phone calls for pick-up orders than phone calls that are being made by telemarketers. As such, expect a little bit of a wait as there is only one guy in the back working tirelessly on a massive wok to make some good and inexpensive food. It really was worth the wait. Really good wok stir-fried noodles. The accompanying condiments of fish sauce, chilies, and lime also went well really with the noodles and seafood. continue reading
