I think sometimes Singaporeans take waterfront dining for granted. I know of people who would give anything to have a cuppa by the river. Ninethirty is an idyllic place and it is nice to spend a lazy afternoon here to chill, over a cup of cappucino if you would like. It is a bright and cheerful place, with many windows to take advantage of its location. Convenient place to head to before or after a performance. continue reading

ninethirty by Awfully Chocolate seems to be part of a rebranding exercise by the brand. Other than the array of chocolatey desserts that has become synonymous with the Awfully Chocolate branding, ninethirty is offering a range of contemporary and local dishes that can go head to head with most cafes or bistros around.Chicken Soup for the SoulOn first impression, ingredients looked pretty sparse for a $7.90 bowl of chicken soup with barely a few strands of noodles. But it was definitely flavourful, tinged with the oils from chicken. Server piping hot, it still gets a thumbs up from me as comfort food.Finger Food of ChoiceShoestring fries might do little to bring out the quality of the potato, but the truffle oil and salt that went into the preparation of this finger food favourite definitely adds to its appeal and aroma.  It definitely came close to being "gone in sixty seconds" here.THE Chocolate Ice CreamAn improvement to Loola's menu at ninethirty was the introduction of their ice cream. I stick to my earlier reviews of Awfully Chocolate's signature Hei 黑 as the chocolate ice cream to beat. Dark, velvety and intense, it was the perfect way to end my meal at ninethirty. 2 scoops are in this case, definitely better than 1.ninethirty has been very enjoyable. Very much looking forward to my next visit. continue reading

An offshoot of the famous Awfully Chocolate chain, Loola's serves up standard brunch items and desserts. I tried the omelette and I found it normal. There is cheese bits scattered at the top. The omelette itself was sufficiently fluffy although the toast could have been warmer and crunchier. The service however was excellent with the servers prompt to refill the drinks. The dessert, some kind of chocolate tart thingy, was fantastic but rather expensive.. continue reading

photos and more: http://andmorefood.wordpress.com/2013/06/03/loolas-by-awfully-chocolate-town/looks good, tastes not-so-good is happening alarmingly frequent nowadays – and it’s even sadder when desserts are the object of discussion. when you have chocolate and sugar and butter floating about in a little baked good, it’s depressing when they don’t end up being good. how can that even happen!these were lackluster – very, very unimpressive. they weren’t too terrible to eat, but most certainly not worth the price nor the wait. it’s a pity, because the cafe itself is lovely – conducive for intimate conversation, spacious enough for comfortable seating.I wonder if we went in expecting too much, but reality did quickly deflate our hopes – much like their soufflé.supposedly a green tea pistachio riser of roast ground pistachios, green tea soufflé and a vanilla bean emulsion – this was really just a sweet omelette and lots of air. no matcha flavour, and no discernible pistachio – when we asked, the waiter came back after ‘consulting the chef’ that the flavours were to be subtle. I would argue they were so subtle as to be non-existent.we hopped on the waiter’s rather enthusiastic recommendation of their loola’s floating island – crusty meringue, loola’s brownie, brandy flambé and a vanilla bean infused sauce. the good thing: enough salt in the brownie to bring out the chocolate and entertainment in brandy on fire; the bad: dry-almost-crumbly brownie encased in a too sweet meringue surrounded by a pool of sweet sauce. I had thought it would be too sweet – and it was.but at the end of it – the food was just sad. I’m not wiping this place out entirely – I thought it was aesthetically-gorgeous (much like its desserts). it was a calm, serene sit-down place good for post-dinner, and really good for a bit of chat. continue reading

Today I am attending an event at here and get to enjoy the food with a view of the MBS from the window. From the Bar, there is free flow of coffee and teaEarl Grey TeaIt seems that they have ran out of teapot and mine is served in a mug with a teabag. The tea tastes strong but get colder easily in the cold room.CappuccinoIt is served beautiful decorated but the coffee tastes average. From the Hot Kitchen, we are havingFrench Toast Cubes With Caramelised Apple & CreamThe apple is very soft and juicy. A simple and delicious pairing.Crispy Duck CrepeThe toast is too hard and crispy. The shredded duck meat is also is too dry. Soft Tofu Fritters On Sesame DressingThe tofu fritter is very good on its own. The dressing is a bit salty when pair with it.Scallops With salted Egg Emulsion & IkuraThe scallop is a bit dry, but the sauce is real nice. From the Bake Shop, we have Hazel Crumble for dessert. It tastes soft and smooth. continue reading
