While I'm still figuring out what's the reason behind its business name, everything was reviewed from my first step into the Cafe.No, this is not an exercise book from the school. Instead, its the ordering menu. Let's flip them and reminisce the old school thoughts.Orders were made by having patrons indicate the items on a portable whiteboard and then send to the counter.Dont worry if you can't get much from the menu. You get closer to them when you look at the walls.It was quite an experience to get in touch with such childhood items like Old Maid Cards, 5 stones, magnetic snake & ladders, erasers with flags and even the Archie comics. Wouldn't it be nice to feel nostalgic once in a while.Half level up and you will get to see the busy kitchen helpers at their best preparing food to their customers. Beside the nostalgic games and books we all read in the 80's, you will get to see old electronic items like the small yet fat size TV in the screen below.OSD had me at Kueh Pie Tie! This classic Nonya favourite which consist of little cups of crispy shells filled with juicy braised turnip was a total turn on! Topped with egg bits, parsley and their homemade chilli sauce, ordering this is highly recommended. A rich, home style meal made of mushroom based sauce was oured over their lightly blanched hor-fun. Ingredients like shredded chicken, mushroom slices and leafy greens were served with their home made sambal belachan. Note that its only available from Friday to Sunday.Old School Mocha-Cinno was classified as one of their Signature Traditional Brew. Made up of a combination of roasted black coffee with malted chocolate and thick frothy milk. It tasted a tad bitter and dont really suit a non coffee person like me.Another recommendation from pal was this Bandung-Dinosauress. Giant size rose milk filled with homemade chendol and sago goodness. If you like bandung, this just wont go wrong.Highly raved by my close pals, these are not to be missed since I had came all over from the West Side of Singapore. It's really an old school canteen favourite. The wings were perfectly done up at the right texture without being too oily. The slight garlic taste permeates the chicken meat, giving a special taste to the tender chicken. What I like best was the crispy light layer of golden brown skin! A reinvention of the Hainanese Pork Chop. Instead of a full flavoured pork, they had it done with chicken instead. Chicken chunks were delicious and crispy, smothered with their homemade sweet-sour sauce, bringing out a tangy taste. These Hainanese Favourite was paired with a bed of garlic fried rice, a perfect match made without being too greasy.Visiting this place had stirred the old memories in me, my childhood days back then. It feels so good once in a while to "travel back in time". Besides that, there are food in OSD worth going back for.

There's even a blackboard written up with the Top 10 list of the things you should know if you're an 'old school' at heart.A wall mounted shelving was located at the entrance, selling numerous 'old school' trinkets like captek, marbles, bouncing balls etc.Their menu also comes in the form of a jotter book!On the table, sits a wooden box named the 'Toy Box'.And it was filled with the old school games of five stones, snakes, donkey, and erasers!And of course, other than five stones (which T didn't even wanted/know how to play), I lost at every other games. T.TAnd as my visit was a good while ago, no definite pricing shall be stated as I can't remember them well. But prices are still considered affordable for a cafe, but pricier if you compare the dish 'apple to apple'. Eg, you can get them at a few dollars cheaper if you've ordered them at your neighbourhood coffee shop or hawker centre. Our drinks for the night - Milo and Barley.I wanted Milo Dinosaur while T wanted Horlick Dinosaur, but both are sold out.The milo was okay, but the barley became quite washed down from all the ice after a while.Nasi Briyani with Fried Chicken.The rice is quite a disappointment, tasting more like just plain rice cooked drier and dyed yellow and orange. There's totally no fragrance of our usual briyani rice, much less to say of any taste. However, the fried chicken was simply divine! Fresh from the fryer, it was piping hot, with the skin totally crispy and the well marinated meat flavourful. I wouldn't say the meat was succulent and tender, for it was more on the dry side but the crispiness and tasty flavour just made every bite so satisfying!I didn't feel much for the curry gravy, for it was the more 'traditional' Indian curry taste with the distinctive taste of spices. The achar was not too sour, the cucumber remains pretty crunchy, just nice for my tastebuds.Just for the fried chicken itself, I'll say this was worth it.T's mains for the night - Home-Style Curry ChickenI asked him to try out their signature dish, the Mee Siam, but it was also sold out for the night, so he chose this instead. This was pretty okay, the curry deviating more towards the Chinese home-cooked style, flavourful and comfortably spicy.Jumbo Otak.Hmm, once again this is just of mediocre standards. For an otak, I will prefer it to be slightly spicier, and the otak meat was a little too tender it tasted kind of mushy and feels "undercooked". Just my own personal liking, I prefer a chewy, slightly drier otak.I was also eyeing their Sticky Chewy Chocolate Fudge cake, but when I was there, they were only left with the pound cake. T.TNot sure if I'm just plain unlucky or they really get sold out on their popular dishes so early into the night, so just to play safe, do drop by earlier in the evening or do a lunch instead if you're interested to try them out.

Walking into memory lane, an adorable and interesting theme was applied at Old School Delight. There were lots of childhood stuffs, it reminded me my study days. I personally like the major blackboard, huge and indicated all dishes sold. Pretty menu and creative way to place orders, we had to write down our orders on a little whiteboard. “All grown-ups were children first.” It was a very sensible sentence. Freshly-grated turnips and egg strips, I treated it as my Tea-break snack. Accompanied their special homemade chilli sauce, it suddenly became a classy dish. Crispy with the wonderful taste, this traditional dish was my favourite since I was small. We were busy playing around with the toy box, card game and magnetic board game, such a naughty fun place. The selling price here was wallet-friendly, we enjoyed our lively tea-time here.

This place reminded me so much of old school days with the chalkboard,wooden furniture and old fashion ceiling fans. Very familiar ambiance indeed.There wasnt a lot of variety offered, just the simple canteen food that we had when we were younger. Hey little choices means there is no need to crack your brain, deciding what to have! Simplicity is a blessing itself.Nasi Lemak - $6.80My nasi lemak served with fried rice. >.<Sobz, because the rice was sold out, so I got to replace it with fried rice lor... @#$%Everything on the plate was pretty normal, not particularly tasty which was definitely doing injustice to the price. I dunno, maybe the chilli was superb good? I dun take chilli, so I decided that the chilli must be good. Otherwise, why so many suckers paid $6.80 for a normal nasi lemak?? The famous nasi lemak at Changi Village is only selling at $4 for similar sides mah =pMee Siam - $4.50Mee siam was alright, at least not too spicy for non-spicy eaters like us. Then again, it may not be shiok enuff for ppl who take spicy food. Hmm.. ask for more chilli then!
