The chosen lunch venue today is Quarter to Three Cafe, situated along a row of shophouses alongside many other restaurants, bars and cafes at Tanjong Pagar. We entered the restaurant upon its opening hour at 12noon, and it was pretty empty. We were drawn to the chic, neat setting with high tables made of smooth polished wood and brick walls, giving the cafe a quasi-European feel. Comfort was definitely exuded, inviting diners to relax and enjoy good desserts and coffee. The Bockwurst Set (SGD$14.90) came first, consisting of pork sausage that was rather crunchy in texture with a light, meaty flavor, and soft foccacia bread. The shitake mushrooms enhanced the taste of the platter with its richer flavor.Next, my thick slice of Rainbow Cake (SGD$9.80) was being served - it goes by the fanciful name of "Watching Rainbow" and had a very soft, fluffy texture as compared to the one I tried at Backstage Cafe. However, its cotton-soft layers only tasted like sweet sponge cake, every layer the same. The Lobster Bisque (SGD$7.90) was our last indulgence, a hot plate of soup that lacked the delicious taste of cream (which is usually found in good lobster bisque soups), was a little diluted without the sweetness of lobster, and devoid of lobster flesh at all. For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/07/lunch-at-quarter-to-three-cafe.html continue reading

Me and friends were looking for a cosy place to settle in after dinner and we chanced upon this place while walking along tanjong pagar. The waiter recommended its tiramisu and commented that it is being reviewed as the 'best tiramisu' in Singapore. Well, let's see how true is that. We went ahead to order the highly recommended tiramisu and a strawberry cheese sponge. Each of us also ordered its specialty twilling tea which comes with a wide range of choices like Lemon Twist, Peppermint, Camomile, Earl Grey, etc. Ironically, the 'best tiramisu' was the last dish to be served because the waiter forgot about it. It tasted quite good as the various layers of ingredients were quite thoughtfully concocted. We forgave the waiter on the account of the yummy tiramisu. The strawberry cheese sponge cake was light and fluffy and it complements well with the flavoured tea. continue reading

Quarter to Three is a cosy little cafe helmed by a chef that supposedly specialises in making pastries. Indeed, this seemed to show as the cakes we were having was of pretty top notch quality. We had this super chocolately cake that will delight all chocolate lovers. The chocolate was very dense and thick, and the cake simply melted in the mouth. For around 8 dollars, this was considered as decent compared to many other cafes. continue reading

In the last few years, beside the rows of Korean BBQ restaurants that have sprang up in the districts of Tanjong Pagar, we also saw the opening of several note-worthy cafes such as Selfish Gene and The Plain. While these 2 are located at craig place, the area with the rows of Korean restaurants seem to have a lack of cafes and we found one for a cosy afternoon cake & coffee-Quarter to Three! I was attracted by the pretty display of layered fondant cakes which i think they were specialising in. The menu was simple, with desserts oike Brownie with Ice cream, cream cakes and 'dry' cakes--cakes that need not be refrigerated. My friend and I decided to shared a carrot cake with cream cheese. The cake portion was huge and good to share. I was almost full with half a cake and a cappucino. Coffee was alright, but good to be able to customised to skinny. The cake was good but forgettable, and cant beat my favourite a cedele's. continue reading

For more info, feel free to visit my blog review here: http://thedessertprince.com/quarter-to-three-its-time-for-tea/Tucked amidst my favourite hilly outpost of Duxton Hill is a cosy little cafe named synonymous with that special timing for afternoon tea. I heard from the owners that this isn’t just another cafe for their cakes are crafted by a master chef who has years of experience baking and training pastry chef. That’s something I don’t hear everyday right? Though I wished I could know who that chef is…And just like their mysterious pastry chef, their cakes are nothing I find in most cafes and patisseries. Yes, it’s just a slice of cake but to me, it’s like a piece of art. Take for instant, stack Japanese cheese sponge cake upon yogurt and strawberry puree and violia! Such joy to have and that’s Tip Of My Tongue ($7.20) for me to utter by next to your ears…Sweet Little Sixteen ($7.20) was an innocent-looking strawberry shortcake but don’t be fool by its appearance. Made with dense Japanese cheese sponges instead of the usual fluffy sponge ones then decked with layers of fresh cream and strawberries, it turns out to be one of the best strawberry cakes I had in years! They have more than just delightful strawberries cakes. Fancy a Rocky Raccoon (Maple Walnut Cheesecake)? Or a Happiness Is A Warm Gun (Opera with Rum)? They are just fancy names if you have to know but try them for yourself and I think you’ll be assured something different from your usual shop. I heard they made good coffee too. Maybe I will drop by one day again… continue reading
