Mee Sua and Fish Maw Soup FTW
Smile Within 24 hours
Was there for a 5 cse wedding dinner. 1st impression was bad as the host ushered me to the wrong weddign reception actually, even after i quoted the name correctly and he insisted this section is the correct olace but i could not see anyone familiar at all, turned out he has ushered me to the wrong place. Back to the food

Crispy crab meat cigar roll with crisp-fried tiger prawn in wasabi mayo and fresh garden green
-> This was supposed to be the appetizer but couldn't quite agree. Nevertheless the tiger prawn is nice and not too oily while couldn't taste much of the crab meat with the stick cigar. 3/5

Broth of Preserved Fish maw with freshly peeled crab meat and egg white
-> above average, one of the better shark fin's replacement i've tasted with lots of different ingredients. 5/5

Crispy cutlet stuffed with prawn mousse coated with almond flakes
-> the almond flakes were a nice touch but the stuff prawn mousse doesn't taste fresh and almost covered the chicken taste entirely. 2/5

Braised mee sua in consomme, infused with hua tiao wine and topped with homemade meat patty
-> top notched, the mee sua was super smooth and the consomme gravy is just perfect, with texture almost resembling that of egg yolk. 5/5

chilled cream of japanese tapioca with coconut ice cream
-> very unique dish with its colors surprising you, purple based tapioca but it complements the nicely cut slice of coconut ice cream 4/5

Real Claypot Rice
Just OK Within 24 hours
first of all, i must say 511 is a real crowded place on sunday evening, almost every stall is crowded with people. My friendtold me the claypot rice here is nicer than the beach road one so came hunting for it. For $4.50, i ordered the 1 person set. Was kind of disappointed that the claypot was kind of small and thus the amount served. Ingredients wise pretty standard, lup cheong ,chicken, green onions and by default the provided the salted fish. No vege was provided though. Taste wise i would say its average but i do like the salted fish add on. But i observe one thing, that is the rice do not stick to the claypot, it either means the rice was only warm in the pot and not cooked or they perfectly control the timing so well. but i think its the former case coz i've never seen one claypot rice vendor do that. Chilli provided is the red cut chilli and soy sauce.

Teochew Porridge.
Smile 1 day ago
This is a popular stall in this food centre with a constant flow of customers. There is a wide range of dishes for selection at economical prices. The tip is to come here early to avoid the long queue and to have a better selection of dishes.

   Sweet & Sour Fish.

One of the all time favourite dishes has to be the different style of fish dishes. A personal favourite has to be the sweet & sour fish. The sweet & sour taste has got a well-balanced of sweetness and sourness that complemented the fish really well.

   Lean Meat with Preserved Pickle.

Another must order dish has to be the lean meat with preserved pickle. This dish has got the right level of saltiness to go well with porridge perfectly.

   Stir-fried Cabbage with Carrot.

The stir-fried cabbage is a really homely dish. It is a simple dish with just the cabbage and strips of carrot stir-fried together with a bit of glass noodle. They cooked it nicely to derive at the right softness

   Steamed Fishcake.

Another dish to recommend is the steamed fishcake. It has got a noticeable freshness and tasted good when eaten with the chilli sauce and the fermented bean sauce provided.

 The Stall.

Their service is always prompt and friendly.

Healthy Soup.
Smile 3 days ago

   ABC Soup.

 The Stall.

A pretty healthy choice for lunch or dinner. It might not be the best soup that i ever tasted but their efforts in using the fresh ingredients to give it the best taste is definitely commendable.

The cheapest soup on their menu is the ABC soup for only $3.50. It has carrot, potato and chicken. Simple ingredients used but it still tasted good. It goes well with their pumpkin rice for $1.00 or just plain rice for 0.50 cents. I will go without the rice if i am not too hungry. The soup itself is substantial to give me a full feeling.

A really good choice.

Curry Bun.
Just OK 3 days ago

   Curry Bun.

The curry bun is one of my regular choice from this bakery. It is good to have for breakfast or just snack. Such a simple bun is slightly highly priced at $1.20 from a neighborhood bakery. Though their standard can be inconsistent at times but mostly acceptable.

The texture of bread is usually soft and fluffy with just the right amount ingredients in it. The ingredient was mushy potato with a pretty light curry taste.

Japanese Lunch Set Meal
Just OK 3 days ago

Wanna to try the japanese restaurant next to Rakuzen but it was fully booked. Hence, we decided to go Rakuzen since we never tried it before. Basically the amount of food served for a set meal was generous. Below are the little reviews of the set that we had.

chopstick1) Chicken Nanban Zen $18++

We waited for about 20 minutes before the food was served. The waitress did informed us that this set meal will have to wait due to the crowds during lunch. The chicken was tender and juicy. The taste of the Nanban Sauce was not too bad - abit sour and salty. Chawanmushi was good - soft and silky. Overall: 8.5/10

chopstick2) Ten Soba Sushi Zen $20++

This set meal really worth the money that comes with sushi, cold soba, tempura & chawanmushi. Overall: 8/10

chopstick3) Yakiniku Zen with Sashimi $23++

The yakiniku (beef) was cold when it was served. This is really bad sad. However, the taste of the beef was not too bad; juicy and tender just that it was served cold. Most of the set comes with chawanmushi which I personally feels that is the best! The sashimi was fresh. Overall: 6/10

Snack Break at Dean & Deluca
Cries 3 days ago
After walking all around Orchard for what seemed like the whole day, I decided to take a break. Since I was already at Orchard Central, I decided to make a pit stop at Dean & Deluca for a snack break.

Despite having been warned that the food here sucks, I didn't have the energy to walk further. So, I settled for the simplest dish that I could find in their menu-- mac and cheese! Like most of their foods here, these are prepared beforehand and as soon as you order it, they will just heat it and serve to you.

After seeing how they prepare the orders, I didn't expect much from my mac and cheese. The pasta was hard and it was sooo dry. Not good, not good at all. At least I was able to wash it down with the iced tea I ordered.

Black Pepper Chicken Chop
Smile 3 days ago
This is one of those nice and economical western food you can find in Singapore but in campus. Always a long queue so seldom do I have the chance to taste their food

I chose Black Pepper Chicken Chop and indeed, never fail me in taste even though it costs $3.20. It not only has the chicken chop, you can choose 3 sides from their variety like baked beans, french fries, corns, hashbrowns, coleslaw and more. All included in the price of $3.20 so what do you think? You may want to add their soup of the day at $1.20 to complete the meal.

The chicken chop is well-cooked and is very tender along with the sauce which is a little salty but still bearable. The portion is modest and decent which makes you enjoy chewing away the chicken chop. The hashbrown and fries are a little too soft, maybe it has been fried for a while and the crispy has lost a little. But nevertheless, the overall taste is good and would love to try others.

They have pasta, salads and many more to choose from at affordable price which won't cost you more than $6.

KAMPONG CARROT CAKE
Cries 3 days ago
This store was located in the Tiong Bahru market. I had walked the whole food center and there is only 2 store selling carrot cake. Somehow I was deceived by the advertisements on the store and ordered their white carrot cake. It is super oily. sad I saw them beat two eggs into my plate of carrot cake, however, it was not spread properly, some part of the carrot cake was still “wet” as the egg was not cooked. There is one thing special about this store is that the size of the carrot cake was based on sizes like shirt. They had S, M, L and XL respectively.

BAK KUT TEH
Just OK 3 days ago
Initially I was at Tai Seng to visit a roasted meat store which is quite near to the old street Bak Kut Teh, however, it was closed on Monday so I had no choice but to try out this bak Kut Teh. Well, when I was browsing the menu, I realise that they are famous for their dried Bak Kut Teh, however it was spicy (I cannot take any spicy food), so I decided to give it a miss and ordered the orginal Bak Kut Teh. The taste of the meat was ok, not the best I had tried, but also not the worst I had tried. Nevertheless, their soup was awesome, the pepper taste was strong enough and it seems that the soup was cooked for many hours before it can be so sweet (I can imagine there is a lot of nutrients “swimming” inside the soup)! However, I do not really like the environment, there is a lot of houseflies flying around.

FENG QUAN CHAI SHI
Smile 3 days ago
Drank this feng quan hot milo in Tamah Jurong market, and look at the unique cups they had! Well, all the cups in the cups come with different design and I think is good, cause the store holder does not had to spend money to the transparent glass cup. Honestly speaking, other than making it look more atas, I do not see a different between using the transparent glass cup and the more home-like cup, because we are still sharing saliva afterall (if they didn’t watch it properly). Well, this store really makes nice and thick milo, which worth the price. The sugar they added to the cup was just nice, it was neither too sweet (for the elderly) nor to bland (for the young). I will definitely try again if I got the chance.

FENG ZHEN @ TAMAH JURONG
Just OK 3 days ago
This Feng Zhen Lor mee is located at Tamah Jurong, which my friend claimed is one of the best food there and she will visit it every Saturday morning without fail. Well, I went to try it that day and It was not as good as I expected or rather as good as she mention. It was unique because the sauce of the lor mee was not those normal sauce that we ate in the coffee shop(maybe they added special ingredients). But it just has not suit my tastebud. The fried food in the lor mee was normal, nothing special at all. But one thing that I find it nice is the egg! It seems that they had cooked for a long time that the texture is very soft and egg yolk can just”melt” in your mouth!

Roasted duck rice
Smile 3 days ago
Xiang ji is one of the most common “brand” seen in Singapore coffee shop which not only sells roasted meat, but also zi char and mixed vegetable rice. I had tried the roast duck meat of Xiang Ji when I was in Tiong

and it was awesome! Particularly, their sauce which is superb! The rice was normal, it was just normal white rice but the sauce made it taste wonderful. I added an egg to my plate of roasted duck meat rice as I was an egg lover.
PS: If you are lucky, you might roast duck drumstick for free! Like my friend!

This hotel international lunch buffet is so worth the price!  Their durian fugde cake and all those durian items are so awesome and delicious that I cannot help not taking the second price. Their seafood such as losbter is a must try! It is so sweet and fresh. They serve teh tarik that is as good as those made in traditional indian store. But not all food is nice, like the omettle(on the above picture) is not that recommended. The total price for 2 person is $113, however, there is 20% discount for POSB and DBS card. Although is still quite expensive, but for the ambience and the food it worth the price.

CHAR GRILL BAR
Just OK 3 days ago
Try this grill fish set at the Char grill bar in Bishan with two of the sides. The Pasta tasted horrible, it was cold and I think they tried to add some herbs to boost the taste, however, the amount added seems to be insufficient and turned out to be tasteless. On the other hand, the pasta, was too hard in term of it texture. Neverless, the grill fish was well-cooked, it is so awesome that I almost wanted to order one more!
