meng meng mee
Just OK 2013-04-29

I've tried the famous Bak Chor Mee at Hill Street, and a couple more at other 'famous' places, and i daresay Meng's Kitchen at Upper Thomson is still my top favourite.

The staff are prompt, and their bak chor mee has a good balance of oil and ingredients. The noodle are tangy, and the vinegar is just in the right proportion. Further, the soup that comes with it is most satisfying in the wee hours of the morning when you want to satisfy a food craving.

Their drinks such as sour plum and teh ping are not bad too. The best part is that it is really affordable. For around $5 or less, you can get a bowl of piping hot noodles with a drink.

Being open 24/7, it is a popular after-clubbing destination, or if you're just bored and want to find a place to hang out..

minced pork noodles.
Smile 2013-02-21 (Related Review)

Having a minced pork mushroom meepok is sometimes not satisfying enough.

Must be the measly bits of mushrooms. I love the noodles. I love the minced pork and pork balls. But can I have more mushroom pleasE!

You need to add on a side or two sometimes.

Today we added on a side of their thai style tofu.

I imagine this to be one of the cheapest possible profit making side.

Just one block of tofu. Deep fried please.

Some thai chilli sauce.

And there we have it.

Simple. But so much oil needed for frying it hardly ever happens at home.

Yum.
Let's not stinge on the garnishing. Some shredded red carrots.

thomson famous bak chor
Just OK 2013-02-19

Meng Kitchen is one of the more famous bak chor mee stalls around, and being a huge bak chor mee fan, I knew that I had to give this place a spin to find out what all the fuss is about, despite the fact that I don't even live in the area.
I arrived during off peak hours and managed to get my bowl of noodles without having to wait for too long. I opted for mee pok since this is my preferred type of noodles. The noodles came fluffy and sufficiently chewy, and not at all soggy. I really enjoyed the noodles a lot. The base contained vinegar and of course chili sauce, and the combination of the two (with probably some secret ingredients) gave rise to one of the most satisfying bowls of bak chor mee I have ever eaten. The icing on the cake was the very generous portion of minced pork and liver; I have always felt that some stalls tried to make their food seem nicer by limiting the serving size, but apparently that is not the practice. Do come here if you want to taste what a really good bowl of bak chor mee should taste like.

The best bak chor mee in SG
Smile 2012-09-23

I honestly think the bak chor mee at Meng Kitchen @ Upper Thomson is the best in Singapore. There's nothing average about it! The best way to enjoy this dish is to order it with extra chilli and extra vinegar. But of course, if you're not a fan of chilli, the version without the spice is also pretty good. If you've a big appetite, you might want to consider adding noodles because the portion for a normal bowl of bak chor mee is small.

Bak Chor Mee
Smile 2012-07-10

If you are a Bak Chor Mee lover, there is Meng Kitchen that can satisfy your craving 24 hours 7 days a week located along Upper Thomson Road. The noodles used by Ming Kitchen were springy and well mixed with a good balance of vinegar and chilli. They are also very generous with their ingredients which have meatballs, both sliced and minced pork, livers and mushrooms.

As my previous preview i said how i love their wanton!
I came back and just to eat the fried wanton only and drink ice green tea there! (:

I like how crispy the wanton is and it doesn't leave any oily taste in your mouth after you eat it. Eat it while it's warm with the mayo! it taste like heaven!
