Authentic Korean food and affordable too!

Here's where you can find authentic home-cooked styled Korean food. I love the fact it’s exactly like in Korea, where you get many sides dishes (ten i think) no matter how little or how much you order! It’s like having a feast when you view such a spread on the table! It’s interesting to try the different types of kimchi here and I like them all! Tried the bibimbap and while I would have preferred a bit more meat in it, it was good. The glutinous rice stuffed in the chicken was all lumped together.

Family Restaurant

Food
Food choices are korean style and yes its a family restaurant.

Appetizers - Like all other Korean restaurant, you are always welcome by small plates of refillable appetizers filled up your whole dinning table and have the kind of "eat till you drop" thought in mind.

Chicken Ginseng Soup - This ginseng soup is good. Authentic korean ginseng soup will use Glutinous rice in their soup. Soup has a good after taste and refillable. You can drink as much as you like smile

Marinated Beef - Meat is tender and well cook by the lady staff who i assume is the boss.

Bim Bim Bap - I know of some places with this dish "chao tah", I'm contented that this dish doesnt have too much of the burnt smell.

Kim-Chi Pen Cake - Yes! its "pen" cake, this is what is written on the menu. This is quite salty and does not suit my taste thus, we had more than half a plate left over.

Service
Fast turn over. The lady boss is polite and works at high speed. She can do multitasking and I'm amazed at the rate she is going. Being the cashier, the waitress, the cook, plates collector, she can handles everything in the shop, name it.

Ambiance
It was very crowded during dinner time. Since the lady is multitasking, the environment is fast paced with queue outside the restaurant and cashier queue. Thus as people crowd around in the shop, it tends to be a little squeezy.

Price
Price is reasonable and not too steep. Good to bring your parents here if they want to try out some korean cuisine.

Recommendation
Be prepare to have a thorough shower after this meal. Like any other Korean style place, your body will kind of stink with BBQ smell.

Chicken Ginseng Soup

Ordinary korean food
Cries 2012-09-30
Saw the review and want to try the korean food. Order the kimchi hotpot and chickene hotplate. Food is so so and the price is not so cheap. Would prefer Ju Shin Jung korean food along pasir panjang road as the food is same priced and the food is better tasting.

The ventilation of the whole place is not good and after eating the whole body smell of BBQ smell.

Will not come to this branch again.

This is my second time coming back to kim's family for lunch. As it was a saturday afternoon and with no reservations on hand, we were lucky to be able to get a table. Or maybe it is because we are here at 1.30pm so it was easier to get a table. Ordered their set meal and i got the chicken bulgogi set. There was beef and also pork to choose from too. It costs $12 for the whole set which i thought it was quite reasonably priced because the serving was really generous. The service rendered was also excellent, overall it was a pleasant lunch. Oh and their side dishes are also refillable. I like the hot dog and also their kim chi. I didn't touch the rest of the side dishes because they were not up to my liking

Vegetable hot pot rice
Smile 2012-05-14
The vegetable hot pot rice here is one of the best seller, which is also one of my favourite dish as well. Lots of fresh shredded carrots, cucumbers, beansprouts, shredded eggs can be found on it which also at the same time added that nice flavour and colour to it. The rice is moist and fragrant too. Love the sweet spicy sauce topped on it which give this dish that extra spicyness to it and yet not overly spicy up by the chilli sauce. The presentation is really nice and looks delicious as well.

Nice Family Restaurant
Smile 2012-05-08

We visited on a weekend at noon, and there were enough wait staff and tables for everyone. Service was excellent and unobtrusive. The service is decent - some of their staff is Koreans but they are able to communicate with basic and good English. The food is relatively good especially in Singapore where authentic Korean food is rare to find. I love the rice cake it is very nice. Will come again for the rice cake.

It is my first time hear at kim's family despite hearing a lot of good reviews about this place so i knew i had to try it out. Came here on a thursday for lunch and the place was relatively empty with only one table occupied. Ordered quite a lot such as their bbq pork, ginseng chicken soup, pancake, jap chae. Their bbq pork was quite nice and i love their seafood pancake!! The ginseng chicken soup was clear and the meat was tender too. I wish they had set menu though. But overall, i enjoyed the food and would come back again soon!

Korean BBQ @ Bukit Timah
Just OK 2011-09-26
Kim's is a small korean bbq restaurant along bukit timah road. Its located opposite the petrol station beside bukit timah food centre, under a row of shophouses, near the Udders outlet. My family and i found this restaurant by chance while searching for something new to try along bukit timah road. Its accessible by both car and bus. Parking is quite easy because theres a big open air car park nearby (coupon parking). And most buses that ply bukit timah road and bukit batok can access this area.

The restaurant itself is a bit small but both times i've been there, it isn't very crowded. We ordered chicken BBQ once and beef BBQ the other time and both were great. I loved the beef BBQ best though because the beef was tender and i liked their seasoning. As for the side dishes - they served so many side dishes that there was hardly any space left on the table! Most of the side dishes, except the kim chi, we did not enjoy but i suspect thats because we weren't used to the taste of some of these dishes.

KIM'S FAMILY RESTAURANT
Smile 2011-09-26

Went there a couple of times and i love the place alot. The ambience and interior design makes customers feel like they're dining at home. It's just very comfortable.

The food there is good as well. The restaurant serves authentic korean cuisine, usually when i visit, i'll order korean chicken with my friend. And one set of korean chicken comes with more than 7 side dishes, the portion is quite big so you can share with a friend. You can also order bigger portion set to share with 2 or more friends.

The good thing is the side dishes are all free flow, they have kimchi, sausages, ikan billis and other authentic korean side dishes.

You can give it a try and pop by their shop when you have the time. The staffs there are extremely friendly and nice people!!!!!!!

value for money!
Smile 2011-06-29
This is really the Korean restaurant to go to. With every order, they will provide up to 10 side dishes. And what is astounishing about this is that one of the side dish is actually a small fish and all sides are refillable (except for the fish). My mother and I really got a shock when we first visited this restaurant last year and seeing them pile so many of these little dishes on our table. We didn't know what to order on our first visit, so we got the spicy beef set to share and we ordered another bowl of rice. The spicy beef looks fiery, but it is really not that spicy. It is very well flavoured and goes very well with rice. The sides too - I like the kimchi and the lettuce (flavoured with a slighty spicy, sourish sauce) best. Thumbs up!

Budget korean food
Smile 2010-09-19
This is a family-run business by Koreans but thankfully there were chinese-speaking staffs to facilitate smooth communication.

Menu
The usual korean food you would expect to find – Stone pot rice, kimchi, onion pancakes, rice cakes…etc. The prices here are well-affordable. I ordered the Chicken set which comes with a bowl of rice. From the picture in the menu, the portion looks small and I went on & order a Vermicelli with mixed vegetables and before I could continue, the server looked @ me & asked me whether I could finish all the food. Well, I didn’t expect that they would serve little tapas together with the chicken set. Thankfully, I didn’t went on & order the pancakes.

Chicken Bulgogi set ($ 7+ inclusive of the tapas )
The chicken bulgogi , served in a Teppan didn’t arrive sizzling and wasn’t warm enough. Thankfully the chicken meat was well marinated and tender. I could easily finish this even without any rice to go along. I find the set very well worth as it comes with the 7 tapas which was a challenge for me to finish it. Well, there were certain tapas that I didn’t touch, wanna guess which are the ones?

Vermicelli with mixed vegetables ($15+)
I was taken aback by the generous portion and it was obvious that I couldn’t stomach so much food @ 1 go. The only choice – ”Doggy-bag” home. Before the servers pack it up for me, I tried a little and find the vermecelli exceptionally smooth and even slip off the chopsticks. There were some mushrooms, carrots and leeks to go along with the broth . IMHO, this is delectable.

The set comes with a dessert – A slice of Watermelon & a cup of ginger lime tea. I find the ginger-lime tea exceptionally sweet & didn’t have the ginger taste. In fact, it taste like honey!

Verdict: Lesson learnt, do not ”over-order” food. I should not have ordered the Vermecelli ( even though it was good ) . The chicken set is enough to satisfy my hunger pangs . Highly recommended for those who loves Korean cuisine!
