My 2nd visit
Smile 2013-05-14 (Related Review)
Tucked in the far end corner of demsey hill, House is one of the perfect dinning choice to kept away from the bustle of the city.

Food
Steamy Tau Sar Pao was served as the first dish out of so many dish we ordered. Known for its softn and tender Pao Skin, this chinese Pao stands up very well on its own among the other western dishes on its menu.
Cost: S$2.50

The Red Latte was highly recommended on the menu to pair along with the Tau Sar Pao. Given a small jug of honey to adjust the sweetness right to their customer's preference.
Cost: S$6.00

Latte on the other hand was well crafted with flower on the top similar to the red latte. A brillant cup of latte off to a good start.
Cost: S$6.00

A stack of 7 Layer Pancake as one of their signature menu is worth the try. These pancakes are moist yet fluffy and its presentation simply steals the scene. Spread with nutella on each layer together in a mixture of fruits and nuts, this devilish combination seems so simple but tastes wickedly good. Tastes best while hot!
Cost: S$18.00

Savoury delights coming your way...

Served in bubbling bursting hotstone pot, the Asian Sliders brings alot of weight to the dish. Taro truffle fries are finely cut and quite unusual in the combination of Kong Bak Bao (pork belly bun). The sliced pieces of meat are thoroughly braised with premium soya sauce, penetrating deep into the pieces of prime pork belly. The fragrance smell of cinnamon has also give a big kick to this delightful pot of Asian goodies.
Cost: S$23.00

Pork belly is succulent with the aromatic herbs fragrance and goes very well under the soft tender and steaming hot buns. This is something to die for and definitely worth your calories.

Drizzled with salt, these thinly cut truffle fries are quite crunchy to our likings.

Pumpkin Risotto are quite impressive with grains clinged together and spatters of white light tasting cream over them. Sage leaves and pine nuts were included as well. The presentation had painted a change of season where leaves and grains are fallen onto the ground.
Cost: S$25.00

Service
Service is great and professional. Waiting time had been explained and customers seated are well taken care of. Staffs are attentive and have positive attitudes.

Ambience
Located just a stone throw away from the nature, you get to see greenery while sitting by the side of the glass. Enjoying the close touch with the nature while dinning. For those who enjoyed the nature can request for outdoor seatings.

Price
Price is abit steep due to its location and quality of food however, overall it explained that everything is worth paying for.

Recommendations / Tips
Do remember to make reservations before the visits.

Another Good Place Found!
Smile 2013-05-10
Food
I was introduced to this place during my pal's solemnization day. Food was already ordered before hand and the management of barracks cafe had did a good job in the ceremony set-ups in the Green House.

Mushroom Risotto is served with wild exotic mushrooms with shavings of pecorino cheese.
Cost: S$24.00

Whet your appetite for more to come! Tangy Red pepper and tomato soup is a good starter!
Cost: S$9.00

"Hey, what's this BAO doing here?" I asked my friend. Initially I thought she took from home. *laughs*. I was stunned when my pal took the Tau Sar Pau and offered me abit. I was wondering how can a Chinese Bun fits itself into the western menu. Highly recommended by her, it is make believable when I have a first bite on it - WooOoo, its skin was soft!
Cost: S$2.50

I'm very much agreeable that Barracks Good Ole Fish n Chips is a childhood's favourite. Fried to a golden perfection, the cod fish was crispy on the outside and tender in the inside and comes with ample of its signature's truffle fries with malt vinegar and its homemade spicy ketchup sauce as complements.
Cost: S$29.00

Lacked with truffle oil and salt, these Truffle fries are good on its own without additional sauces.
Cost: S$9.00

Service
Very polite service, as we entered the green house, we were greeted warmly with a smile. Staff are on standby and ready for help at all times. With their assistance, things go very well on this memorable occasion. Awesome!

Ambience
Impressive environment and atmosphere is comfortable with cosy vintage furnishings. The place is probably an excellent spot to romance your date.

Price
Considering the location, pricing is reasonable.

Recommendation / Tips
I will come back for their High Tea. smile

Birthday Dinner
Smile 2012-03-30
Soup is watery but flavourful with bits of mushroom

Burger was a bit dry but the fries are wonderful chunky type, crisp on the outside, soft inside.

Lamb was tender and the mint sauce is not overwhelming in fact it brings out the flavor.

Wagyu beef is so tender and done just right. Its melt in the mouth type. The accompanying sweet potatoe fries are the same as those potato fries. Must try!

The tuna salad was great as well. Although the tuna was a tad dry and abit too cooked.

The english breakfast pizza was not as fantastic as we imagine it to be and the toppings are quite miserable. Some of us did not even manage to get either the eggs or the bacons on our slice of pizza.

Chocolate whiskey & pineapple malibu ice cream

I'm a sucker for alcoholic ice creams, so I just had to try the made-in-house Chocolate Whisky and Pineapple Malibu ice cream at Barracks. Unfortunately, the ice cream was icy in texture and were mediocre flavor-wise. The chocolate whiskey ice cream tasted rather unrefined reminded me of cheap chocolate-flavored ice cream. Pineapple malibu (a mix of malibu rum, coconut and pineapple) fared slightly better and was somewhat refreshing.

 Red latte

Thankfully, the red latte (rooibos tea latte) ($6++) was light and soothing. A pleasant drink.

One gripe that I had was that while I ordered a double scoop ($7.50), the two scoops of ice cream were served in separate cups and charged likewise at $4.20 a scoop. We were, however, bade warm goodbyes when we left the cafe.

I ordered Their Summer Stack
It was described as layers of mozzarella, proscuitto, pesto & tomatoes, so we expected some kind of carb-less lasagne. To our surprise , it was a full on sandwich, all that, & sandwiches between 2 slices of bread to boot. I must say though, that it was a really really good sandwich.but Pretty greasy from the pesto & olive oil, but incredibly tasty.
Overall i rate 7/10

Lovely Place
Smile 2011-09-03
There are many reviews about how great the place looked and the ambience is lovely. And when I was there with my besties, I found them all to be true!!

We were celebrating my hubs' BDay with a nice brunch and we had:

1) Cod Fish & Chips - high class fish and chips! The fries were nice and the kiddos ate them by the plates!! They didn't eat much of the fish so the mothers had to finish them. It's quite nice really.

2) American Slider with Blue Cheese Bacon - birthday boy loved it. I had a bite and it's very savory and yummy. Value for money.

3) Spinach Egg Skinny Pizza - their skinny pizza is liken to eating pizza topping on a big parpadum. It cracks when you cut and eating it was quite a messy affair!

4) Mushroom Risotto - the flavours were intense with the mushroom alone but they also laced the rice with this duck sauce on the side. Didn't work out for me as I thought the taste of the mushroom and duck kinda clashed. Maybe it's just me.

5) Flourless Choc Cake - at the end of the meal, we were already very stuffed and didn't wanna order too much cake. So we all only got a slice and the staff very happily surprised my hubby by singing the 'Happy Birthday' song really loudly!!! It was really sweet of them.

I would return as the combination of great audience and good food is too good to forget.

barracks cafe
Smile 2011-08-30
My girlfriend and I are on a dessert hunt again. This time we head to demsey for some delicious desserts. we went to barracks café and order the chocolate hazelnut gateaux. It was absolutely delicious. the chocolate was so rich, it was slightly bitter but it was not too sweet. the hazelnut taste was really strong, gives it an additional oomph! factor. My girlfriend and I agreed that this café serves the best gateaux around!

quite chill
Smile 2011-08-29
I came to barracks with my girlfriends on a Saturday afternoon for high tea. We thought they served high tea on weekends but unfortunately, they only serve it on Thursdays and Fridays. Nevertheless, they had a brunch menu (but served till 3.45pm) and desserts.

   pumpkin salad

We had a truffle mushroom pizza, strawberry shortcake, pumpkin salad. All tasted really well and their service was rather prompt. I recommend this place if you are looking for a chill and relaxing restaurant for brunch over the weekends. smile

I ordered a pot of lavender kiss(black tea). It was very interesting as they would write the name of the tea on the pot itself. The tea was fragrant and it is definitely sufficient for one pax.

delicious tarts
Smile 2011-08-18
My friend treated me to a nice tea at barracks café at demsey. I ordered the bitter chocolate tart and hot tea. The tart taste really good, not sweet at all. I love the tart, it is so crispy. The chocolate cream is so rich and chocolaty…
