Nana's Green Tea first started off as the Japanese version of Starbucks in Jiyugaoka, Japan. Week Day Set Lunch

Nana's Green Tea current has a Week Day Set Lunch promotion from 11am to 230pm on weekdays. With the promotion, customers can order any main course and a beverage below $8.00 for only $13.90! In my opinion, this lunch promotion is a real steal considering the prices of the main courses and beverages. Hence, I have went back more on more than four occasions during weekday lunch.

The photos below are a summary of what I ate over several occasions. For reference, I will show the ala carte prices.

Matcha Soft Cream Latte (cold) $8

Judging from the name (i.e. Nana's Green Tea), I knew that I had to try their Green Tea (Matcha). I ordered the Matcha Soft Cream Latte (cold) $8 which was topped with soft serve vanilla ice cream. It was initially very bitter at first. The magic starts when the ice cream melted resulting in a perfect harmony with the green tea. More creamy, sweeter and yet retained the distinctive green tea fragrance and bitterness.

Thin Matcha Green Tea Float (cold) $8

The Thin Matcha Green Tea Float (cold) $8 was topped with green tea ice cream was served without milk and sugar. Instead, sugar syrup was given. Personally, I preferred the Matcha Soft Cream Latte.

Hoji Kuromitsu Latte (cold) $8

Hoji Kuromitsu Latte $8 could be served hot or cold. I ordered the cold version. This drink is a type of Japanese green tea. The difference is that it is roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal resulting in its colour and a caramelised taste. As I had not tried this before, I decided to try this. I did not like the taste of it. I will stick to the green tea instead.

Azuki Latte (hot) $7

Azuki Latte $7 could be served hot or cold. The Azuki (red beans) was boiled with sugar and then blended with milk. Despite its dull appearance, it was quite addictive. The hot one was a tad too sweet. I preferred the cold version better as the ice helped lessen the sweetness level.

Unagi Mabushi Don $16.80

The Unagi Mabushi Don $16.80 consisting of grilled soy marinated eel served with Japanese rice and topped with sesame, nori (seaweed) and spring onion was the most expensive main course. It was served with a bowl of miso soup. Their miso soup was quite good!

Unagi Mabushi Don $16.80

Unagi Mabushi Don was easily one of the best main course in Nana's Green Tea. The grilled eel was so delectable and soft that it provided a melt in the mouth sensation. With the juices from the soy marinated eel drizzled over the rice along with the toppings, the rice was so savoury and addictive.

Salmon and Maguro Don $15.80

The Salmon and Maguro Don $15.80 was also served with a bowl of miso soup and special sesame oil. It comprised of soy marinated tuna and salmon served over Japanese rice topped with sesame, nori, pickled ginger, spring onion, daikon sprout and mayonnaise sauce.

Salmon and Maguro Don $15.80

Drizzle the special sesame oil over this dish to enhance the taste further. Although there was a generous serving of salmon and maguro (tuna), it was a pity that they were not fresh.

Sukiyaki Udon $14.80

Sukiyaki Udon $14.80 was served with sliced beef, toufu, mushroom, leek, poached egg and udon. The poached egg was decently executed and the egg yolk was still runny. Overall, it was a decent bowl of udon, but more ingredients could have been given.

Sukiyaki Don $14.80

We preferred the Sukiyaki Udon as the beef slices in the Sukiyaki Don was harder and saltier.

Gyu Shabu Goma Dare Udon $15.80

The Gyu Shabu Goma Dare Udon $15.80 was beautifully presented. It consisted of beef slices, tomato, corn, cucumber, lettuce, spring onion, daikon sprout with cold udon. The difference ingredients provided different textures (crunchy, hard, soft) and flavours to this dish. It was exciting going through this dish at the initial stage. However, towards the end, I got jelak (tired) of eating this dish.

Locomoko Don $15.80

Locomoko Don $15.80 comprised of beef patty, tomato, broccoli, lettuce, poached egg and Japanese rice. The tomato sauce which was added over the beef patty was just too spicy for our liking. It overwhelmed the other flavours. What a pity.

Although there was hits and misses, the Week Day Set Lunch promotion made it so much more affordable having a meal at Nana's Green Tea!

Cool tables with no legs. Hangs from the ceiling.

I wanted to try the signature dishes of this place, but there was so much good looking food on the menu, I almost could not decide. This wasn't the main menu - but was the every day set lunch menu. It was quite a good deal as you get a drink with the main course. Their drinks are expensive if you order ala carte, and can easily go up to more than $7 for a glass of beverage.

We ended up ordering from this set lunch menu anyway as most of the main courses we wanted to try were listed in it.

We both ordered the cold thin green tea, which is served with no milk and sugar in it - good for the health and weight conscious. I added an additional topping of vanilla soft serve in my drink, which costed about $1 extra. Of course, if you feel that it's quite bitter, they also serve with liquid sugar which you can add into your drink as you like.

For salads, we had the recommended Chicken Karaage Salad ($6.80). I loved it! It had Chicken Karaage, tomato, lettuce, cucumber and half boiled egg. I ordered the roasted sesame dressing.

Next up, the Salmon & Cream Sushi Roll ($5.80 for 4 pcs, $10 for 8 pcs). It contained salmon, egg, avocado, cucumber and topped with cheese mayonnaise. Delish and very filling!

One thing about the lighting in this place, is that it's too yellow. My photos turned out quite yellow for this dish, but I assure you that it's more towards the cream looking colour. haha.

This dish, called the Seafood mentaiko udon with cream sauce ($15.80), lived up to its creamy name. I love mentaiko - aka walleye pollock roe. Its flavour infused into the creamy concoction and made it very yummy indeed. Seafood, which included prawns, scallops and squid, were worth it as they were generous with its servings.

This Chicken Cutlet Curry ($13.80) was a really generous serving of Japanese curry, warm japanese millet rice and a huge chicken cutlet. The fried chicken cutlet was fried nicely and the meat was tender and the skin was the right kind of crispy.

I should also mention that rice served in this restaurant are all millet rice. On their menu, they shared that it uses an ancient rice receipe containing 10 different kinds of cereal mixed with polished rice and it has many nutrients, such as minerals, vitamins and dietary fibre, which are good for the heart. [Plus points for being super healthy and remembering to take care of their customers' hearts!]

Just opposite their restaurant, there's a mini cafe counter with the kitchen, also part of their restaurant. It's easier as people can just order the drinks for takeaway without having to crowd in the shop while their drink is being made. Also, as the kitchen is apart from the sit down area, customers don't reek of food smells after their meal. I appreciate that very much.

As I don't eat beef, I decided to try the new Millet rice bowls. Millet rice is a healthy version of Japanese rice with 10 kinds of grains/cereals mixed with polished white rice. It is high in dietary fiber and contains extra minerals and vitamins that's good for the body.
Chicken Nanban Don $15.80++, has a crispy fried chicken fillet topped with Jap tartar sauce and served with fresh greens on millet rice. All rice bowls come with miso soup.

The Chicken Nanban was quite delish. Although the tartar sauce is not as good as the one from Tsukada Nojo, I still like the well marinated crispy chicken meat. The fresh greens complimented the chicken fillet well too. The millet rice beneath tasted very good, it was still soft and fluffy despite the multi-grains mix. Thumbs up.
Tori Karaage Salad $6.80++, crispy fried chicken nuggets on top of assorted veggies and hard boiled eggs. This is served with a choice of Japanese dressings, and I picked my fave sesame dressing to go with the salad.

The chicken nuggets were well marinated and crispy. Veggies were freshly chopped and taste fabulous with the yummy sesame dressing. Portion was quite ample for a $6+ dish.
Azuki Shiratama Soft Cream Latte $8.50++. I love this dessert-drink! The sweet and creamy latte was filled with robust flavor of Jap azuki beans and the Soft Serve ice cream simply makes this drink divine..slurp!

My Chicken Nanban Don was the right choice, fried juicy chicken with a whole lot of greens and salad on a big portion of very delicious japanese white rice. My friend also enjoyed her Salmon & Maguro Chirasi Don, the fresh salmon and tuna goodness was legit reason for her to break diet plans! It was a very filling don, I would say! We especially love how the white rice is cooked to that right moisture.

Drinks wise, the Hot Azuki Latte and Iced Matcha Latte was superb! I love how thick and undiluted the Matcha Latte is, while there is a real lot of red beans beneath the Azuki Latte drink. The drinks are better than the food here and I am glad that green tea lovers now have a great place to get their green tea craving fix.

The restaurant is fairly large and spacious with very unique decor and table settings. The Everyday Set Lunch promo is a great deal, and I would be back again to try the other items on that menu and of course to get my hands on all the different Matcha drinks!

Hoji Gateaux Choco parfait $13.80++
I was feeling quite full by the time this came. The glass was tall indeed. I had a love hate relationship with this dessert. I love the crispy corn flakes, waffle biscuit, the ice cream and chocolate sauce. The same cannot be said for the Gateaux cake. It was dry and tough and tasted weird...yucks. And, the kanten jelly at the bottom was too sweet, didn't finish that too. Note to self, order the choco banana one next time.

The first item on the menu is Uji Premium Matcha ($7.50++), which is traditional Japanese Matcha green tea served as an espresso. It looks so interesting with the brush in the cup. But we so disappointed when it is served. The serving is very small and served without the brush. My friend is so looking forwards to experience the DIY of making the tea, seeing the picture on the menu. It tastes quite bitter and strong. If you are not used to strong tea, I suggest you add sugar to your tea which will make it more drinkable.

Thin Matcha Green Tea ($6.50++) is the equivalent of the local 'The-O Kosong', which is green tea served without sugar and milk. It tastes like a watered down version of Uji Premium Matcha, which tastes quite smooth without sugar.

Mushi-Dori Goma Udon ($13.80++) is a cold udon dish, topped with shredded steamed chicken, shredded cucumber and Nana's special sesame sauce. It tastes quite light as the sauce is much lighter than expected. The udon has a QQ chewy texture. But the dish tastes a bit jelat after a few mouthful.

The Waka tama udon ($11.80++) is a bowl of hot udon soup and full of seaweed, with a beautiful poached egg in the centre. The soup is very flavourful with the seaweed taste. The egg is the star of this dish, so perfectly soft but cooked, which makes this simple dish tastes great.

Overall the food tastes a bit below expectation but still not bad. Food is served quite fast. Although we are the last customers of the day, we do not feel rush to finish our food. Maybe next time I will just come for the desserts which seems to be a better choice.

Being a fan of green tea desserts I had to try Nana's Green Tea. I got a matcha parfait which has green tea ice cream, red beans, crunchy cornflakes, vanilla ice cream, and green tea jelly at the bottom. Portion is huge so share among 2 or 3 people. It is actually the closest to the matcha parfaits I've tried in Japan; strong matcha taste for the ice cream. I would prefer a chewier jelly to the agar agar-like green tea jelly at the bottom though. Bill amounted to $13+.

Was looking for a quick bite (late lunch/tea) at Plaza Singapura and chanced upon Nana which wasn't crowded and was still open at that time. Frankly speaking, there aren't that many items to choose from if you are looking for rice/noodle choices as compared to the galore of green tea drinks and desserts on offer. I can't blame them since this is essentially a drinks and dessert place but it would have been nice to have more options.

The ebi chili don was passable with nicely deep-fried prawns in the slightly sweet chili sauce. Miso soup was a bit bland. As for the yakitori chicken, I think I prefer the leeks that come with it rather than the chicken which didn't leave a strong impression on me.

Overall, if you are looking for a quick bite and do not have sky-high expectations for the food here, I think Nana's is still a good choice. However, most people are here for the drinks and desserts so I think those key items will probably fare better.

Reputed to be an amazing natural metabolism booster, a great way to reduce your cholesterol and even said to hold more antioxidants than berries, dark chocolate and spinach, this fine ground high quality green tea from Japan is indeed a superfood for anybody and everybody!

Nana's Green Tea Cafe, one of Japan's pioneer Matcha cafes, with 32 outlets all over the country and even earning the status of 'Japan's Starbucks' has recently opened its flagship store in Singapore at the Plaza Singapura extension. This Singapore branch offers an extensive menu of Matcha- based desserts such as crepes and parfaits, drinks and even savoury options of Donburi and Udon soup with the chefs flown directly from Japan so that you can experience and enjoy the true authentic taste of Nana's Green Tea.

Locomoko Don $15.80

That sunny-side up egg with its glowing yolk definitely caught my attention first as it simply brightens up the overall demeanor of this Locomoko Don with its presence. Somewhat like a deconstructed hamburger with its beef patty, lettuce and tomatoes, I personally thought the patty was a tad dry and could be a little juicier but the sweet tomato sauce did its job by adding some succulence to the warm Japanese sticky rice. And coupled with some florets of broccoli, this overall combination did work out in the end.

Mushi – Dori Goma Dare Udon $13.80

While I am not really a fan of cold noodles, I did however warm up to this cold Udon variation served with Nana's special sesame sauce. And oh I have to talk about that creamy and nutty texture of the sauce, which was quite compelling and simply the highlight. Topped with healthy steamed chicken fillets that complemented the bouncy consistency of the specially imported Udon noodles, this was quite special.

Moving onto the desserts section!

Matcha Shiratama Parfait $11.80
Banana Chocolate Parfait $12.80

These layers of ice-cream, syrup, cornflakes, whipped cream, mochi and kanten jelly are absolute showstoppers. The best part always about parfaits is that they are piled on top of each other so all you really need is a tall spoon is get a bit of that goodness. What I really appreciated most was that these towering heights of ice and cream were almost exact replicas of their photogenic counterparts printed in the menu. The last thing you want is to get excited over the pictures and be disappointed when the actual one arrives. This was definitely not the case here.

So if you have yet to jump onto the Matcha bandwagon yet, Nana's Green Tea cafe is a great place to start. The overall decor of the place with its cute wooden framed partitions and warm yellow lighting makes it an excellent choice to spend the afternoon just sipping tea and eating ice-cream. Now doesnt that sound ideal and lovely?

This restaurant offer very affordable set lunch at only $13.90++, I get to enjoy this bowl of delicious curry chicken cutlet rice with a cup of fresh brewed coffee. The chicken was really impressive, meat is very juicy and tender. The outer crust is very crispy and not salty as well. The rice is not soggy and very fragrant too. Curry is thick and spicy, goes very well with the rice. Coffee was quite bitter but is really fragrant. The restaurant is very cosy with very spacious furnishings.

Waitress here are very polite and prompt in serving the food to our table. Even though I just had their lunch set, but is filling and satisfying.
