Lunched at Marutama Pa-Men. I ordered marutama ramen for $12. It was not bad. Just thought that the noodles was a litle bit too thin. The soup was chicken broth with char siew, negi and nori. The char siew was nice! Very tender and well marinated. Tasty!! The soup however was a little too salty for my liking.

NICE RAMEN
Smile 2011-09-26

Marutama's ramen is one of the nicest ramen i ever had. though they have lesser choice of ramen to choose from, they serve the best ramen.
the ramen is done in a good doneness where it is very Q. The portion is big with the ramen, soup and a lot of green onion on top.
And you will be surprise that you are being serve by a real japanese. hence, the service they give, no need me to say much.

fantastic!
Smile 2011-09-08
Very authentic, just like what I ate in Japan! the soup base is made from chicken( good choice for people who doesn't like pork). It is clear and not too salty. The ramen comes with a piece of cha shu and an egg. The cha shu is well marinated and melts in your mouth. For meat lovers, there’s an option to add more meat.
Service is good or rather efficient. I got my food shortly after i made my order despite the large human flow. Having mentioned that, do come earlier so you don’t have to starve while queuing!

Ramen Craving
Smile 2011-08-28
They are famous for their chicken soup base ramen. Indeed, it is really the authentic and thick chicken soup. I had drank the same type of soup base in Vietnam where they only used chicken bones and meat to make the broth, the real chicken soup. But not as thick as Marutama's one. In fact, I prefer the one I have tasted in Vietnam which is less thick. But still, this is one Ramen which you can't miss.

Not like normal Japanese ramen restaurants like Ajisen Ramen etc, their choices are quite limited. But it appears as a good thing to me, no need to scratch your head to think what to eat.

Their ramen ordering goes like this: You order a basic ramen with only the ramen, soup base and spring onion and seaweed, starting from $12. And then you can add on type of toppings you want, eg: char sew, egg, seaweed etc. Some recommendation for the toppings, choose this special half boiled egg, which you have this hard boiled white egg but half boiled york, sound amazing right? Just wonder how they make sure every egg is like that. And their seaweed is really nice and chewy.

For their side dishes, I would recommend their grilled roasted pork (char siu). The tender in and just nice grilled roasted pork. I would say this is the best I have tried so far. Some other good side dishes like omelet and dumpling worth a try too.

Overall, it is one good choice if you crave for ramen. Although they always have a long queue outside and quite a small restaurant but their service is fast. Turnover rate should be quite fast too.

a nice bowl of ramen
Smile 2011-08-26
The ramen at marutama is totally splendid. When my friend suggested we head there for some delicious ramen, I did not hesitate. The noodles is very thin and you can tell that the ramen maker took a lot of effort to make it taste so good. the soup is so tasty, very delicious thick brooth. I ordered the char siew ramen, it came with slices of Japanese char siew. Their char siew is very tender, not much chewing required. The egg is the one that seal the deal, it is kind of soft boil on the inside, the egg york is quite soft. it goes really well with the entire ramen, brings out the flavor of the soup!

Some say this is the best, some say it is overrated, and I'm more of a believer of the latter because so far no ramen has beaten my Ichibantei yet, well, at least to me.

Having very low expectations, I dug in, and boy, was I surprised.

I actually liked the noodles (the thin ramen kind), the Char Siu, the Ajituke Tamago (soy eggs). The broth was okay.

Marutama is now my second favourite ramen place, and it has the potential of winning my heart (and stomach) over soon. But I don't know. I was too hungry that day when I tried it, so probably I'll go back for a second visit for a better judgment!

ramen time!
Smile 2011-03-23

tried this ramen a few weeks ago after my fren recommended to me; the queue was horribly long when i came with a fren on a saturday evening! :x
after a half hour wait, we finally got our seats; ordered the signature ramen for both of us; all i could say was the wait was worth it!! the ramen and the broth really put the others that i have eaten before to shame, seriously.
no words can describe the aroma, the taste of it. u gotta try it! =)

Springy ramen noodles, clear soup (however quite may be quite oily), soft char siew that melts in your mouth!
Add a hard boiled egg for just $1. An egg you would be edicted to!
Order dashimaki for your sides, sweet and yummy omelette!
Free flow of hot green tea too!

This is the best ramen i have had my entire life!! Their pork is so soft and seasoned. The fats just melts in your mouth! I ordered the one that's non spicy at $12 which only consist of ramen, soup and 1 slice of pork. Very greedy, i added char siu (3 slices only) at a cost of $4 and 2 seasoned half boiled egg at $1 each. So my entire bowl of ramen adds up to $17. Very simple bowl of noodle but heavenly delicious! No wonder the queue is forever so long! Not forgetting to mention, they have really good service and the chef is authentic Japanese!!!

Best Egg in my Life!!!
Smile 2010-08-24
This is not my first visit to this Ramen restaurant. I am returning again and again all because of 1 reason----------- >>>>>>> and that's the EGG & the Char Siew! Yums! The semi half boiled egg is mad SHIOK! The egg yolk is runny... uncooked! AND Yes! THE BEST EGG ever tasted in my life! WOW!! shocked

And as for the Char Siew, it can really melt in my mouth! But of course, there were a little fat contains in it. So maynot be for those health concious peeps!

The soup is too salty as it's cooked with Chicken and not the usual Pork base. As for the ramen, it's still spingy!

All in all, it's definately worth the price I am paying!

   Yummy Ramen!
