Baby scallop fish roe cream

Baby scallop fish roe cream is on the set lunch menu for 10.90, that comes together with a drink and soup of the day, which happens to be cream of corn for mine. The soup was average. The pasta on the other hand, is nicely done. The type of pasta can be chose, and i had the linguine. The fish roe added some crunchiness to the pasta, and the scallop was sweet. Like it a lot, though i would prefer cream that are thicker.

European food at wallet-friendly prices
Just OK 2013-04-16

I met up with some university classmates for a catch-up dinner a while back and we decided to try some european food. Affordable food is a must for financially-challenged students, so it was a good surprise that we chanced upon Ambush in Jurong Point which serves European cuisine at relatively affordable prices.

Between the 4 of us, we shared 3 pasta dishes and 1 rice dish:

   Baby scallop fish roe cream

Baby scallop pasta in fish roe cream sauce. ($13.80)
This is for all your cream-based pasta lovers, the pasta was cooked al dente and the cream sauce was creamy yet not overly rich in a "jeald" way. The only downside would be that the scallops inside were small and few, so if you're a meat-lover, it's good to order other appetizers as this dish is mainly pasta.

   Vongole White wine sauce

Vongole - white wine sauce with clam ($12.50)
This was unanimously voted the best dish! The sauce was light and tangy and complemented the clams and pasta very well. It had just the right amount of garlic and herbs that made it a very enjoyable dish!

 Baby scallop squid ink sauce

Baby scallop pasta in fish roe squid ink sauce. ($13.80)
This is a very messy dish to eat because you have to be prepared for black teeth and lips as the aftermath! That said, it was very similar to the first dish, except for the sauce. I have mixed feelings about the sauce because it was only average. It wasn't fantastic neither was it bad, so I'm still on the fence about it.

   Zamorana Paella

Zamorana Paella - rice with meatball, ham, sliced chicken sausages, bacon and chicken ($13.50)
This dish is for the carnivore in you with all the meat inside, but unfortunately, it was the worst out of all the dishes. The sauce used to cook the rice tasted like just tomato ketchup, which is disappointing, and the flavours of the various meat did not complement each other well. Definitely do not recommend this dish!

All in all, we enjoyed the meal but would not really come back again as there are other better pasta places in Singapore at similar prices.

Wrong set choices
Just OK 2013-04-15

During my school lunch break, we headed to Jurong Point for Ambush.
Sigh, sadly to say, the food disappoints.
i remembered the first two times I tried Ambush I really liked it!

Anyway, on the good side, we had the lunch promotion deal
It ranges from $9.90 to $11.90 ++, which was pretty reasonable.
Comes with soup of the day, drinks and a course
Sadly, the SOD was some green pea soup which I really disliked.
I really like their mushroom soup the past times I went!

Had the bockwurst with cranberry rice set
The fries were bad, it tasted like it was stale!
The bockwurst didn't taste good either.
And the rice......it was just a wrong order for me.

Mussels - I miss belgium
Smile 2013-03-15

Food
Ambush menu comes in a news article form placed on the table.

I'm missing belgium food! Ordered a small pot of mussels. Well served and no stinky smell of seafood. Totally delicious!

The bread has a strong herb fragrance of thymes leaves and margarine. It is for us to dip the creamy sauce from the mussels pots and it totally blends in very well with it!

Big Mussels are richful in taste! Loves the fragrance of the creamy sauce and the herbs/spice that comes in the sauce. Wonderful.

Medium well done steak served with fries and vegetables sprinkled with the sweet vinegar sauce. Steak are grilled to the perfection of taste!

Service
Service is quite fast and attentive.

Ambience
Located at the centre and open area of jurong point 1, it really draw lots of attention from shoppers who walk passed. Somehow there is no privacy but its ok.

Price
Reasonably price considering the standard of food and service.

Recommendation / Tips
Mussels in pot is a must try!

Eat out at Ambush
Just OK 2013-03-07

Jurong Point has alot of makan places and Ambush is one of them. It is a western restaurant which provides italian cuisines (pasta), swiss cuisines (like rosti) and etc.
Out of curiosity, I have decided to try out this squid ink pasta. It does not look appealing with its colour of course. At first few taste, I thought that it is quite a nice dish. However, as I continue to eat, I think it is too salty for me. However, if you prefer dishes with strong flavour, maybe you should try it smile
Just a gently reminder to the gals, do not try this dish if you are in a date! This picture tells you the reason tongue

bratwurst
Smile 2013-02-27

Ordered a German Sausage with rossti for my lunch. Initially i was wondering will it really fit my stomach but it proved that it does. The two sausages were grilled to almost perfection. The sausages were quite big and there were really juicy. The rossti were kind of plain, which i guess it is to compliment the sausage. It was crispy on the outside and it really goes well with the sausages.

It's not ambush in JP
Just OK 2013-01-31

Food
Located outside courts at the old wings of Jurong Point, right in the middle of the mall's plaza. I wonder why is it called ambush when it's location is so prominent. A fusion of western , german, italian, european, cuisine.

German Style Potato Pan Cake (Rosti) @ $6.80
Limited serving of sour cream sad. I would prefer marche's portion!

Oktoberfest Platter ($16.95) - with bratwurst (german sausage), mashed potato, sauerkraut, pork knuckles. This is a filling set. Pork knuckles has the porky smell, I love the sauerkraut. smile

Portebello Mushroom creamy spaghetti. Looks plains but tastes good.

One of my friend order the steak. Looks good.

Service
Prompt service

Ambience
Open concept kitchen. You can see what's the cook doing from the restaurant or another level up the resaturant.

Price
Reasonably price. The cost of european food are more of less the same.

Ambush for Lunch
Smile 2013-01-30

There are quite a queue during the time we went there but was actually able to be allocated with a table by the staff without much waiting. The staff over at this restaurant is quite friendly though it is quite difficult to get their attention to take order or to request for things.

Environment wise, this restaurant is designed to be at level 2 of the old Jurong Point wings next to the walkway and courts is just opposite the restaurant. Tables between each other are actually not very spaced apart as they tried to make use of all the available space to accommodate more customer eating there. If the restaurant is not full, it should be quite nice and relaxing to eat in this restaurant but if it is very fully seated, you might find that the restaurant will become quite noisy as other people are very near to your table.

The restaurant concept is using open air style which include open view of their kitchen where you can see their chef cooking up the nice dishes for the customers. Overall, it gives us a nice comfortable environment to enjoy our meals together.

   Vongole – White Wine Sauce @ $12.50

This is one of the better pasta I will always order when I am eating at Ambush, The pasta is using fusilli mixed together with sauteed fresh white Clams and white wine sauce. Pasta is nicely cooked and you get to taste the freshness of the clam without the alcohol of the white wine.

   Mini Sausage Platter @ $8.80

Fat and juicy mini Chicken Cheese and French Chicken Garlic Sausages are being nicely grilled and served with mustard and Brown Sauce. I like the taste of the Chicken Cheese Sausages as you are able to feel a bit of cheese flowing out when you give it a bite.

German Style Potato Pan Cake (Rosti) @ $6.80

Though the overall taste of this Rosti is great but I would still prefer the popular Rosti from Marché. The dish comes with a small portion of sour cream for you to eat with the Rosti.

Ambush
Just OK 2013-01-28

Ambush, a cafe offering western cuisine located at Jurong Point. We was searching high and low for a place for dinning and it was suggested by my sister that we can dine in this cafe as it offer affordable price and the food is not bad. Luckily for us that we do not need to queue.

The cafe adopts an open concept style and people who are walking pass could easily watch what we are doing. It is an open cafe between the shops. Didn't take many photos as we are concentrating chit chatting all the way throughout the dinner. My friend was back from Paris and sister has not seen him for 8 years? That was long...

Picture of the menu. The menu has the newspaper concept. Simple and understandable.

 Menu

 Menu

My friend ordered hamburg beef and fries. The presentation was nicely done. The portion was generous enough and it goes well with the special sauce. The fries was cripsy and soft in the inner. We love munching the fries away.

Swiss german sausage with rosti by sister. I like the rosti which is actually made of potato slice. We can choose either take rosti or mashed potato during the order. Love the swiss german sausage. The juicy part of the sausage was flowing when we cut them into smaller sizes. My saliva is drooling while typing on my keyboard now..

My fish & chips. Taste nice and i haven't got to eat good western food for quite sometime. So this is consider a treat for me.

The serving was within 20 minutes time and the staffs are quite attentive to customers' needs. As for the environment wise, the restaurant concept is using open air style which include open view of their kitchen where you can see their chef is whipping up the meals. Overall, it's quite a pleasant dinning choice for heartland who are staying around jurong point mall.

Pretty crowded during peak hours. I went during dinner hour, so it's pretty crowded. Waiting time is really long as well. I had my dish of western fusion meal! It consist of thick huge sausages, fries and rice. The rice are well marinated and fries are well seasoned. It is tasty. The main highlight would be their sausage. It is really thick and juicy and succulent! Tasty!!!!!!

Yummy pasta with lots of fresh scallops! I like the taste of the entire dish. It was a little oily though but i guess it was drenched in healthy olive oil. The scallops are all juicy and succulent. Very fresh indeed. It was topped with roes as well. Everything was perfect. The pasta was well cooked and well marinated. Service here was impeccable too. All in all, i had a great time!

First time here and i tried their Vongole spaghetti in cream sauce. Nothing too fantastic to rave about. It was in fact pretty normal. Vongole are fresh, sauce was flavourful and tasty, spaghetti was well cooked and soft. Service was pretty great as well. I have yet to try other dishes given many ravings on them. Will definitely be back for the rest. Do give here a try!

crispy chicken aglio olio
Smile 2012-06-13

i went to ambush for an outing with my girlfriends. I decided to try their crispy chicken aglio olio. The chicken was marinated in some sort of spices and deep fried. It was very fragrant. the outside of the chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. Normally when you deep fried something, the moisture tends to escape and the meat will dry up but this was not the case. The fussili was cooked perfectly, I found it very chewy. as a whole the dish was pretty good, meets my expectations.

Smile 2012-06-10

i had dinner at ambush with my girlfriend. I ordered their ham and cheese fussili. They cooked it in cream sauce. The fussili is really delicious. They are very generous with the ingredients especially their ham. The sauce is very tasty, the cream sauce is really light not too heavy. The fussili is cooked perfectly, not too soggy and pretty chewy. The ham is not too salty as well. the cheese gives the dish a whole new taste. The portion is just right, not too filling but not too little as well.

salmon pasta
Smile 2012-04-29

Ambush is a western style restaurant at the second level of Jurong Point 1. I was attracted by their menu pictures as well as the open concept and hence decided to have my meal there. Their specialty seems to be german sausages but since I am not really a fan of sausages, I tried their salmon pasta instead. The pasta is very smooth and not clumpy and it is very flavourful with the tomato and olive oil dressing. The salmon fish is also not too tough and is quite tender, though it tastes slightly bland. Their lunch sets are quite affordable and worth a try.
