BenTen Cafe is a fusion food restaurant that really caters to the younger crowds by bringing Japanese and Western cuisines together with a modern twists. Other than pastas and baked rice, they also serve Hamburger Steak and Parfaits.

The restaurant is free seating and you are allowed to choose any table as long as its not being marked reserved. Due to the cafe's location in the mall, many of the tables were actually lined to the aisles of the mall.

The Seafood Curry Baked Rice has squid and prawns in it and is being cooked with rice and japanese curry covered with a layer of cheese that covered the whole of the dish. The Japanese curry was pretty fragrant too.

The Bacon and Mushroom Pasta with Garlic Sauce was nice as the garlic flavour was being absorbed in the pasta and the bacon was rather chewy.

lunch time set meal
Smile 2013-03-22

My friends and I went to Benten Cafe to have the lunch time set meal. There are a variety of pasta/bake rice to choose from their lunch time set menu which cost around $10+. Their main course come together with a drink, soup of the day and garlic bread. You just have to top up an additional of $2 for the parfait, which originally cost $3.80.
I decided to order Bentendo Fisherman in garlic sauce, as the name Bentendo suggest, i assume that it should be their signature dish.

When my food was here, the spaghetti actually looks very plain. However, the taste was so much different, it wasn't plain at all. The spaghetti actually have a sweet garlic taste and it taste awesome. I like it very much.

Dinner time!
Just OK 2013-03-04

Food
Just feel like having something soupy tonight as I had a heavy lunch in the afternoon.
Ordered the mango and apple juice at $4.80. There are residue of apple in the drink so I confirm that the drink is freshy made.

Avocadeo chocolat Shake is really good but definitely not the best I had drank. Mild flavour of chocolate on top of the shake and the fragrance of the fruit is just alright. It is a very filling drink to our stomach.

The clam and cod roe sphagetti at $14.80. It comes with a big chunk of roe on top of bowl and it is very salty to eat that alone. I do not know the correct way of eating this dish but I find this dish quite cumbersome and irritating in terms of dinning. Since I cannot eat just the roe, i stirred it into the soup and I cant enjoy much as the roes are just too fine. And All I had was fork and spoon with a dish in a bowl. There were lots of calms in it and quite hard to "de shell" the calms with limited utensils. Moreover the sphagetti is too slipper and shorter than the normal mee. it makes it very difficult for me.

Benten combo at $13.80 comes with a small piece of chicken chop, beef burger patty and a sausage. Sides will be brocoli, corn and fries. Teriyaki chicken is slightly overcooked. Marinate did not absorb into the meat. Burger steak was quite ok. Beef patty was quite fresh and chewy. Curry sauce was not that fantastic. Nothing Special. The cheese sausage is something you can buy off from any supermarket. Given the overall food, it should not have been served on a hotplate. Given that the food was cooked beforehand, it will be hard to keep the meat from overcooking. Its just average rating.

Service
Service is ok nothing much in particular.

Ambience
Open air dining, you can see alot of shoppers walking pass. Not much privacy.

Price
Price is ok consider it has some quality in it.

Recommendations / Tips
They recommend this place for desserts as they are interesting. I will be back for their desserts. However do try the drinks I have ordered. they are not bad too. They comes with 10% of service charge.

Fulfilling meal but needs better service
Just OK 2013-03-01

Went on a Friday evening with a group of friends. I ordered the curry chicken baked rice, while my friends tried out the creamy seafood baked rice and the shrimp curry rice, which came with a small bowl of salad. The price paid was comparable to a similar meal outside in restaurants. I liked the curry chicken baked rice, and I would say the portion is worth its price. But my friend who had the creamy seafood rice did not really liked it as the taste of the cheese was too strong for her liking.

The location of the restaurant was a bit weird as we were seated at another part of the restaurant which was near the handrails of the shopping mall (opposite crystal jade). Hence it might have contributed to the service staff not really paying much attention to our side and we pretty much had to go up to the staff to get what we wanted.

Ordered the seaweed bacon carbonara and mushroom salmon pasta soup which were quite worth the price! The carbonara is too creamy though and you will get sick of the taste easily. But the salmon pasta soup is good! Not as concentrated as the carbonara sauce and not as creamy. The salmon is fresh as well but the noodles they gave are a little smaller in portion and in the end I wasn't that full.

Ben Ten

Well, if you dont already know, I love Ben ten. It serves absolutely the best dishes and even though the price might be pretty steep, its totally worth it. This is their terriyaki curry chicken. Their curry is simply the best I have ever tasted and I keep coming back to this shop for more. This dish is about $11 not including service and tax. Their service is good too.

plum juice
Smile 2012-07-29

I accompanied my best friend to benten at jurong point for lunch. As I had a hearty breakfast, I was not in the mood for eating anything filling so I ordered myself a plum juice. The plum juice is really refreshing. It tasted more sour than anything. I like it that it was not too sweet. the serving was pretty large for a cup. I strongly recommend this drink if you happened to decide to dine at this restaurant. It makes a thirst quenching drink.

I went to benten for lunch. They had this lunch set meal which comprises of a main course, a soup and a drink. The price is pretty reasonable, you have a range of different main course to choose from, and the main course decides the price you pay for the meal. I ordered their pasta. The pasta was really good, seasoned perfectly and the flavours were awesome. The soup came with garlic bread, the bread when dipped in the soup made it taste really nice and soup. for my drink, I ordered their cold green tea. if you are looking for something sweet, then the cold green tea is not for you. It is the tasteless Japanese kind.

Benten has been opened for quite some time already but I haven give it a try. I decided to try it with my friend. I ordered the bacon spaghetti. The spaghetti is tossed with garlic which gives it a garlicky fragrance. there is in fact no sauce. The bacon is very crispy, it is not too salty as well. it went well with the spaghetti. The portion is pretty large, I could not finish the entire plate. It was very filling.

hawaiian curry baked rice
Smile 2012-05-04

I had lunch at benten. They were having some lunch promotion so decided to give it a try. Apparently their lunch promotion menu was quite extensive. I ordered the Hawaiian curry baked rice. It turned out pretty good. They added pineapples, hams and plenty of corns to the baked rice. The pineapple gave the dish a sweetish taste as it was very juicy. The ham was sliced thickly and it was very tasty. The curry is the Japanese curry, not spicy at all. It was seasoned quite well too. The cheese they topped the rice was very creamy and cheesy. As a whole, it was not too bad.

My bf and i went over there to have our dinner was attached to the long queue over there. We order baked rice and japanese pasta. The order take a while to come mainly because of the crowd. The baked rice was quite delicious you have to eat it hot. The pasta was so so only quite dry. The price was reasonable as compared to the other similar reastaurants which served the same food.

   Cheesy Fries

Went to Jurong Point for movies, and decided to go for a snack at benten before the movies starts.
Been having disappointing food for a week, was really keeping my fingers crossed.

We ordered a big fruity ice-cream and a cheesy fries.
Both dishes tasted, YUMMY! The cheese is thick and definitely goes well with the fries...

The cream soup of the pasta was really good. Not too overwhelming or "gelard". Mushrooms were

there was quite a selection of desserts but we were too full to try. I'm definitely coming back for more! =)
However this place is one of my favorite ice cream joint ~ reasonable price with lots of fruit, deliciously smooth ice cream, cornflakes, blueberry, Japanese red bean (depending on what you order) lots of favor in one BIG cup. If you are not a great fan of ice cream it is more advisable to be share by two people ~ lots to go by.

Personally I feel better than Swensen's

Me and my roomie recently had a craving for ben -ten's food again. Hence we decided to head down to catch their lunch time set meal. I really enjoyed the food. We started off the meal with the soup of the day. That day's special was the cream of mushroom soup and it was creatively decorated by the chefs! The mushroom soup was really good. It was the genuine mushroom soup kind, not the canned type. With mushroom bits and cream to thicken the soup. Delicious!
