STUDENT MEAL
Just OK 2013-05-18

Tried the fig and olive student meal that come with free ice cream and drink (Coke/sprite). I did not really like the fries; firstly it was not hot and a bit soggy, like it was cooked long ago beforehand. However, the salad goes very well with the sauce, not much of the green leafy taste with mix with sauce. The vegetable they used are also fresh and juicy. On the other hand, the fish and chips as nice. It was not oily yet crispy in term of texture. However, the waiting time was too long, despite the customers did not even fill up half the restaurant.

Grilled Chicken
Smile 2013-04-06

I have went there to celebrate my malay girlfriend's birtheday. I have ordered their healthier choice selection, which is the grilled chicken. Was actually quite impressed with this dish when they served to me. Very fragrant and the chicken meat is very tender and juicy. Even the chicken skin has been cooked till fragrant as well. It is not too salty nor oily.

Fig & Olive
Cries 2013-04-03

I was very disappointed with Fig & Olive. ):

I ordered a mushroom chicken cream pasta that evening and was eagerly anticipating it to come as my stomach is already groaning. To my dismay, the cream sauce was really thick as shown in the picture. It is very different from what I always had in other places. The cream sauce is similar to those cans campbell soups found in supermarkets. It made the whole pasta really dry and awful ):

My friend ordered a plate of fish and chips. It was slightly better than mine but the fish isn't fresh too. I don't think I will return to Fig & Olive again ):

However, their service was commendable. smile

Mediterranean Cuisine
Just OK 2013-02-11

Flip the menu and the first page you see would be a boast of how healthy a Mediterranean diet is. set on the table would be a jar of olive oil, some pepper and salt...

While we waited for my brother to arrive, we ordered a Hummus, which was basically bread and cheese! It cost $7.90, and although there were 3 of us we gobbled it up pretty quickly. The portion wasn't enough!

   Hummus

That's Hummus.

   $88.90

so when my bro arrived, we ordered a giant plate of lamb, prawns, fish, chicken for $88.90. If you are a fan of fig & olive, you'll get 20% off. it's really worth it, we all felt really full because there was also pineapple rice. the plate was soooo huge, so sit on the big table. try to avoid sitting at the side nearer to swensens because apparently swensens placed their rubbish bin there and whenever they open the cabinet it STINKS LIKE CRAZY. there's also free water so you don't really need to order drinks!

Mediterranean Food
Just OK 2013-01-22

I only realized that this restaurant serves a blend of European and Mediterranean origins food yesterday. I always thought that they are selling fish and olive until yesterday. I have never patronized Fig & Olive as the menu and crowd is not appealing to me. Since they have one for one main course promotion, my friend and i decided to give it a try. The one for one offer valid only with cash payment.

Food
Seafood Carbonara Pasta - $18.90
Carbonara Pasta tastes good. I love the prawns in shell.

Fruit Margarita - $5.90
No taste of alcohol though it is name as margarita.
More of fruity taste.

Olio Granada Skewer - $22.90
I have chosen beef for the skewer.
Beef is very tough and hard to bite.
As for the spaghetti, it is overcooked, its soggy and the size of the spaghetti is bloated.

Mediterrnean Tea - $5.50
Wanted to try something Mediterranean and special and I have chosen this. Normal taste.

Service
Generally fine.

Ambience
Ample of seats as there are not much customers.
Located in open area in the shopping mall, therefore abit noisy.

Price
Pricing is abit steep for mediocre food. If not for the promotion, I wouldn't have visit them.

Recommendation / Tips

The Price is $16.90 per set.

This evening, I have been invited to Fig and Olive.

The In-charged staff is very friendly and hospitality to serve us their signature main course, Garlic Chicken: Boonless Chicken Thigh which pre-marinated with garlic oil and their figo spice, and topped with Mozzarella cheese, garlic confit and accompany with Herbs Olive rice. The chicken meat is well done. The meat is very tender crispy and juicy. It is a very delicious Mediterranean cuisine. I like the Herb Olive rice which is a very healthy food.

The Price is $16.90 per set.

Fig & Olive
Just OK 2011-10-04

Fig & Olive for lunch with my good friend! We ordered the chicken kebab wrap which is very nice. A nice break away from the usual pastas and spaghetti. The chicken is very flavourful! We also ordered the al dente spaghetti and found the sauce abit too watery. Could be better is the sauce was abit thicker and more rich. Anyway, food here was not bad. smile

resemblances of New york
Smile 2011-10-01

A well decorated place that resembles restaurants in America, spicing up the food under the theme of ‘The West’. Food is pretty tasty. A good combination of cooking method and spices that made eating not only for survival but for pleasure.

The black pepper chicken with potato ( $14.10) is a grilled chicken steak served with greens and baked potato. It is well-marinated with black pepper and topped with something like a bbq sauce. Taste is unique; a mixture of sweet and spicy with makes the dish very appetizing. The baked potato is a good match to the main dish. A simple food but brought to great taste. It is a must try!

The chicken pesto carbonara ($16.10) is a similar dish with a chicken steak baked with cheese and topped up with a tomato sauce, carbonara in cream sauce as well as some baked potatoes. However, the chicken is not as tender as the previous dish. It is highly recommended for big eaters as the serving is very generous and definitely worth the price especially when they have a 1-for-1 promotion going on now. A meal for two cost only $18.85.

Overall, this place is highly recommended. Great food, great interior, good value and good service. What are you waiting for?

FISH AND CHIPS
Just OK 2011-09-01

Their fish and chips is nice however it's quite costly.

It's not nice to the extent to match the price. After adding up the tax and service charge, it's around $17, which is quite pricey (especially i'm still a student). I'd say the crisscross fries is really nice, almost all the restaurants outside like swensens serve straight cut fries but this restaurant serve this which is quite unique.

But the fish is abit too oily and doesn't taste special. Taste like those normal fried dory fish.

So i think the price is not value for the quality of the food.

I've not tried the other dishes in fig and olive yet but might be giving it a try to see whether it taste good.

Margribi Chicken Olive Rice
Smile 2011-08-10 (Related Review)

The ala carte price of this dish is $16.10. However, with the set meal promotion Fig and Olive is currently holding, it can be purchased at a low price of $11.90!

The Margribi Chicken Olive Rice contains herbs grilled chicken with Mediterranean sauce served with olive rice and fresh vegetables. It is a spicy dish and also one of the award winning dishes offered by Fig and Olive.

The Mediterranean sauce goes extremely well with the juicy chicken. Additionally, the olive rice has a nice aroma of olive. Overall, the dish is well combined and has a unique taste.

Chicken Pesto Carbonara
Smile 2011-08-10

I'm a big fan of the Fig & Olive's spaghetti and the chicken pesto carbonara is my favourite. The ala carte price of this item is $16.90 but Fig & Olive constantly hold promotions to help customers cut down on our dining costs.

For this meal, I purchased their $11.90 (Excluding GST and service charge) meal, which consists of chicken pesto carbonara and a soft drink. This is the first time I purchased a drink at the restaurant and even though the pepsi light is just..regular can of pepsi light, I was pleasantly surprised when I was given a glass filled with ice and a small slice of lemon. Lemon and pepsi go well together and a small gesture like this by the restaurant makes me feel as the amount of effort the restaurant is putting in to give customers the best dining experience they can provide.

Moving on to the main dish, the chicken pesto carbonara consists of herb grilled chicken topped with tomato sauce and melted cheese, potatoes and served with pasta/olive rice. I prefer their pasta over their olive rice so I normally order for the pasta. The chicken served is like other chicken served by Fig & Olive for other dishes. The only difference between the chicken of the different dishes is the sauce that it has been topped off. Although I'm generally dislike tomato sauce, the sauce Fig & Olive uses is not too sour and they use fresh tomatoes. In addition to the good combination of chicken and pasta, the dish comes with a side of high quality potatoes.

It is a relatively large portion and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this dish to readers who are craving for pasta! smile

Healthy Mediterranean Cuisine
Just OK 2011-06-20

Fig & Olive is a restaurant serving Mediterranean and European dishes, so most of their dishes will look rather familiar Western cuisine, but not exactly the same. Their wide selection of menu includes various appetizers, steak, lamb, chicken or fish with pasta, sandwich and kebab etc. They also take pride in themselves using olive oil in the preparation of their food and is certified to be a healthy restaurant.

I liked the Figo Fish Oglio, which is fried fish fillet served with pasta. The fish is fresh and not too oily, and goes along well with the pasta. Perhaps one of the reasons I liked it is because it is more similar to our regular fish and chips that we know, nothing too special about it. The chicken pesto carbonara is not too bad as well, the portion is rather generous, and the potatoes is great when dipped with the carbonara sauce.

I also tried the maghribi chicken with olive rice, which is not really to my liking as I find it to a slightly weird. Just not my cup of tea. It is grilled chicken with Mediterranean style sauce, which is slightly sour and does not taste like your ordinary grilled chicken, so I would only recommend it to those who likes to try new things, but not for those with a traditional grilled chicken in mind when you are ordering it.

Currently, they are having a promotion during the afternoons, which is 1 - for - 1 main course, which is a really good deal. Choices you can choose from is the "gourmet galore" section which is actually their main course section. The two pictures I uploaded, "Figo Fish Oglio" and "Chicken Pesto Carbonara" are both from that section, which is quite worthwhile considering it is just about 16++ for 2 dishes.

The dinner set however, is not so worth is as it will be 20++ for a set, which includes a main course, a drink and a dessert. Big difference in price if compared with the afternoon 1 - for - 1, so not recommended to go for that.

My verdict: Its taste is so so, not fantastic but good enough to try, especially during the promotion hours.

olives?
Just OK 2011-06-18

I love olives, but somehow, i do not like this shop. They do not really use a lot of olives into their dish, which is kind of saddening because i had high expectations as a result of the shop name. They just put the olives on top, which is different from cooking with it. I had the Maghribi Chicken with Olive Rice.

Besides the olive, the rice is too hard, and the herb grilled chicken was dry and tough. Not exactly my ideal lunch. The only good point about the shop is that the staffs are very attentive and will come by with just a nod.
