Mango Pudding
Smile 2011-08-28 (Related Review)

This is one of the desserts Ichiban Sushi serves that's not on the menu and will only be available some times on the conveyor belt. The mango pudding has a sweet and strong mango taste. It is relatively soft, but not like toufu-soft. I like having it for dessert while dining at Ichiban Sushi. Like other regular coloured plate sushi, it costs only $2.10. Great dessert! smile

Chicken Katsu Don
Just OK 2011-08-28 (Related Review)

The chicken katsu don is chicken cutlet with scrambled egg rice bowl. It is similar to the ala carte chicken cutlet with scrambled egg. The only difference its the smaller portion of chicken cutlet and it comes with rice.

Although similar, the chicken cutlet was pretty disappointing this time round. The chicken skin is very floury and it was cold when served. The sauce were UNDER the chicken and absorbed by the rice so I couldn't dip the chicken into the sweet sauce.

Like many dons (rice bowls), it is relatively inconvenient to scoop the rice up with the chicken on the top blocking the rice. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy the Chicken Katsu Don if you're looking to try the chicken cutlet with scramble egg. Try the ala carte even though its more expensive but it is better to have it seperated + it is a bigger portion.

Deep Impact (Sushi) @ Ichiban Sushi
Smile 2011-08-28 (Related Review)

The deep impact sushi is a unique combination of seasoned baby octopus and tempura flakes. I think it is only available at Ichiban Sushi. It costs $2.10. It is actually one of my favourite because the tempura flakes go surprisingly well with the sushi. Ichiban Sushi has a lot of unique sushi and this is one of the must-try in my opinion.

Chuka Iidako
Smile 2011-08-24 (Related Review)

The chuka iidako is seasoned mini octopus sushi. This is my mother's favourite sushi in the restaurant. Ichiban Sushi normally put an overflowing amount of octopus on the sushi. The octopus is pretty rubbery and sweet.

However, the restaurant doesn't normally serve this sushi fresh (they'll just take it off the conveyor belt if you order for it) so the seaweed isn't crispy and it is hard to break off. I'm not a big fan of sushi with soft seaweed so I'll prefer to order for a plate of JUST seasoned octopus which costs $3.90 whereas the chuka iidako costs $2.10.

California Handroll
Just OK 2011-08-24 (Related Review)

Like many other sushi restaurant, Ichiban Sushi will make the california handroll only when it is ordered. it is actually one of the few sushi that Ichiban Sushi offer that will be served freshly made.

The california handroll is average and the egg isn't sweet. However, like always, Ichiban Sushi is very generous with the ingredients and it is relatively filling for only $2.10. I normally have it after eating other sushi to fill myself up. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something filling at a low cost when dining at Ichiban Sushi. Otherwise, just try the other sushi they have if you're looking for something new. This isn't too special l:

Chicken Katsu Toji
Smile 2011-08-24 (Related Review)

Out of all the Ichiban Sushi's chicken main dishes, this is my favourite. It is a chicken cutlet with scramble egg. This dish isn't offered in any of set meals that Ichiban Sushi has to offer so if you want additional items like rice, miso soup, chawanmushi etc, you'll have to "add-on" and it'll cost around the same as a set meal.

I normally share the cutlet with a friend or my mother because the cutlet is relatively big. I'll add-on a bowl of rice to go with it. The cutlet is like any other tender and juicy chicken cutlet you can find out there. What makes it different is the sauce and scramble egg. The sauce is sweet and it is perfect with the cutlet. Ichiban Sushi is usually very generous with all of the stuff the serve so don't worry about the sauce running out! It is more than enough for me smile

The main reason why I love this dish is the scramble egg. I prefer eggs that are not overcooked/fully cooked so when I saw that the scramble egg is more of the watery and not-so-cooked kind, I was thrilled. The egg sticks to the cutlet and together with the sauce, its just delicious.

The overall taste of the dish is just refreshing. Its easy to get sick of eating one piece of plain chicken cutlet. Ichiban Sushi's unique combination of ingredients with regular chicken cutlet never fail to satisfy my cravings. The cutlet costs only $10.90. Like always, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, for any occasion. Great food, great service, value for money!

FYI, there's normally a long queue during dinner time and you may have to wait up to 40 minutes so you'll probably want to go early. It is thatpopular smile

Chawanmushi
Smile 2011-08-07 (Related Review)

Whenever I'm craving for Chawanmushi, I'll definitely go to Ichiban Sushi. Their chawanmushi is pretty expensive but it is a relatively large portion. The steamed egg has a unique taste and you can just slurp it up from the spoon as though you're eating pudding. Inside the steamed egg includes mushrooms, a crabmeat and a huge chunk of chicken. All of these go well with the egg and its an excellent combination for the chawanmushi.

If anyone's looking for a good chawanmushi to eat, good news! You don't have to look any further. Just go to Ichiban Sushi! lol Seriously though, its really good. I eat it frequently. Give it a try!

Chicken Shogayaki Gozen
Smile 2011-08-07 (Related Review)

Ichiban sushi sells several dishes of fried chicken. This set in particular is my mother's favourite. It consists of chicken with ginger sauce, soft shell crab tempura, chawanmushu, miso soup, a bowl of rice and 2 pieces of watermelon at a price of $16.90.

The main dish, the chicken with ginger sauce comes with a generous amount of fresh vegetables. The ginger sauce gives the chicken a very unique taste and its sweet. I'm not a big fan of ginger but their ginger sauce only has a slight hint of the unbearable ginger smell hence I was able to enjoy it. The chicken itself, like other Ichiban sushi chicken dishes, was tender and moist and absolutely delicious.

Looking for Japanese food? Give Ichiban Sushi a try! Good food + excellent service! Their staff have high attention to details and are very customer-oriented. I'm a frequent customer of this restaurant and they never fail to provide me with a fantastic dining experience.

Crispy Spicy Tuna Mayo Sushi
Smile 2011-08-07

One of my favourite feature of Ichiban Sushi is their wide variety of sushi that are not seen commonly. They even have sushi that are wrapped with cheese and filled with ham. Today, I decided to give their crispy spicy tuna mayo sushi a try.

At $2.10, you'll get 3 of these sushi filled with spicy tuna, mayonnaise, shrimp roe, pickles and spring onions. The tuna is relatively spicy and may not be suitable for anyone who can't stand spicy food. They mixed the shrimp roe with the tuna and you'll taste the shrimp roe in every bite although they didn't put in much shrimp roe.

Overall, it was a creative dish and does not taste weird. I'd recommend my friends to try it.

Long queue but good food
Smile 2011-07-15

The japanese food restaurant in Singapore are almost always filled with people, regardless of weekday or weekend. I had to wait for more than half an hour to get a table for two.

Ichiban has to be one of the nicest japanese food restaurants around. They offers a wide variety of combination meals and every single one of them looks so yummy that it is hard to decide. I eventually chose CM1, which consist of a seafood miso soup, a teriyaki mini-rice bowl, sashimi, steamed egg and a plate of fruits.

The portion was huge. It was almost hard to finish and i feel as though i had just finished a buffet. The salmon sashimi was fresh and sweet, the seafood miso was just how miso should taste and piping hot. And i would totally go for the teriyaki chicken next time. Its so flavorful!

Another set meal from Ichiban!
Smile 2011-05-27

Yes! I went back to Ichiban again! And I tried another set meal from them! Kind of determined to try all their set meals! lol I ordered the curry chicken one and this time round, I've learnt from my previous dining experiences and I shared the set meal with a friend! lol Just nice for the two of us! The curry chicken here is not like any other one. There is cheese added to it! Surprisingly, the cheese actually blends in very well with the curry! The tempura was alright, just a little cold.

Ichiban Sushi
Smile 2011-05-27

Since young, I've been visiting Ichiban Sushi(or previously known as Fiesta) at Jurong point.
Staffs are friendly, always greeting every customer with welcome in Japanese.

I love their set meals, and without failed i will always ordered their most expensive set meal consisting of sashimi, mixed tempura/fried, fish, chawanmushi, soup and rice.
They will change their menu once in awhile, so the set meals will be about the same but different combinations of fish and meat.
And i love their sushi platters!!!! The presentation is good and the sushi taste delicious.
Within minutes, the plate is completely empty!

Good quality Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price.

Ichiban Sushi
Smile 2011-03-10

The sashimis and sushi were all very fresh and delicious. It consist of Ika , salmon, tuna, prawn, unagi, octopus, california maki etc. Chawanmushi is soft and smooth. Very tasty and fragrant. Everything was great except for the tofu. The tofu was okay but the toppings on top of it smells fishy. Guess it's some kinda fish eggs. Didn't like it. There's a plate of fruit as well. I also took home some cheese cakes! Love their cheese cake especially the pandan flavour one.
