Birthday with Thais
Smile 2013-03-10
My favourite hang out place in Jurong Point for the acceptable pricing of food. Normally a lunch or dinner set will cost about 10 bucks, which is fairly reasonable. A set meal consists of a main course (rice with chicken etc), a side dish, and a dessert.

Since I went there quite often, I decided to sign up for their ThaiExpress Orange card for $30. In return, I get to earn 10% rebate dollars from my second visit onwards. I have earned also a 1-for-1 Main Course eVoucher, a $10 eVoucher (you can choose to redeem it on the day of purchase), a $15 Birthday eVoucher (which I used up on the day of purchase), and a Birthday platter which is worth $20!

As they require me to dine in before I can redeem my birthday platter, I went there to have a mango rice and take away the birthday platter.

This is the mango rice. The waiting time is short and the taste is superb!
I didnt get a snapshot of the platter though. But there are quite a few fried stuff and a papaya salad. Worth for the price!

Set Meal
Smile 2013-01-30

i was craving for something sour and spicy so my girlfriend brought me to thai express for dinner. i ordered their set meal cos the red fish tom yum soup really appealed to me. it was as good as it looked on the pictures. the tom yum soup was very sour and not too spicy. the fish was very fresh. i like the green curry chicken balls, thought that it was pretty unique. their dessert was not too bad, had a strong coconut flavour.

Spicy dinner
Smile 2013-01-19

Dinner at Thai Express with a friend, i ordered the Tom Yum Talay which is the Tom Yum Seafood soup. They have quite a number of versions of their Tom Yum Soup like Tom Yum Pla(Fish), Tom Yum Kung (Prawn) and Tom Yum Kang Nam Deang (Red Crayfish Soup). On top of my soup, i ordered a main course, which was Khao Neua Phat Krapow, which is the Basil Minced Beef with rice. The tom yum soup is the clear type, even though without the chilli oil, it still taste pretty spicy. there were quite a lot of seafood in the soup like fish, sotong and prawns. The basil beef was kind of spicy too, but eat with rice then it was ok. it was indeed a spicy dinner.

Dinner Out!
Just OK 2012-12-19
Thai Express is the most convenient place for you to have some thai style food. However, as the name implies "express" - its really fast thai food. We had tried many dishes from the menus after numerous visits. Particularly, I found the black pepper soft shell crab tung hoon is the best! The most tasty dish of all! We tried their new creation - curry with prata (total disappointment as i will rather pay and eat at a prata shop). You can also try their Red Curry Chicken/Seafood Noodles or Green Curry Chicken/Seafood Noodles. They are all very delicious though a bit salty. This is a place for you to satisfy your taste bubs!

softshell crab curry
Smile 2012-12-16
I went to thai express for dinner the other day. I went a little earlier so could avoid the dinner crowd. I ordered their soft shell crab curry rice. the portion of the soft shell crab is indeed worth the amount I paid. The crab although being deep fried, tasted very juicy. the curry was not spicy at all though it had really good curry flavor. the curry was pretty thick and goes well with the rice and the soft shell crab. I must say this is one of the classic signature must order dish at thai express.

honey chicken rice set
Smile 2012-12-15

I ordered the set meal from thai express. I must say it is really worth it cos their mains at around $9.90, $10.10 but their set meal is a mere $8.90 and you get a main course, an appetizer and a bowl of dessert. I had the honey chicken rice for my main, the appetizer is fixed, three green curry balls and the dessert is some sago with corn and atap seed. The honey chicken rice you can find it in the menu but the portion is of course not as much as the one in the menu, but you have the green curry chicken ball which was kind of feeling. The dessert had this coconut milk taste, very sticky too but I thought it was good as it was not too sweet.

Dinner at Thai Express
Smile 2012-10-24
After a long day at work, my friend and I decided to settle for a simple dinner at Jurong Point. As she has a craving for Thai food, hence we ended up at Thai Express. Luckily there wasn't a queue for tonight, so we managed to find a table for 2 easily.

This Thai Express outlet was located in the basement of Jurong Point 2, where people can literally see and stare at you from above floors while you dine as all the restaurants located along that row doesn't have any "roof".

As I have a slight craving for green curry and crayfish, I ordered their green curry noodle with crayfish. Their green curry is my all-time favourite and I would never fail to order on each of my visits.

Here's the photo of my Green Curry Noodle with Crayfish:

When my Green Curry noodle with crayfish was served, I felt the food presentation could be further improved as you can only see the crayfish and if we only judge the food based on its appearance, in my own opinion, this dish certainly doesn't counts as attractive. But I am definitely impressed when I had my first taste of the green curry. The Green Curry broth was certainly thick and aromatic. It tasted great, but albeit a little too salty, which we didn't really like. The mee tasted normal while the potato tasted mediocre. The potato cubes were hard, tasteless and I think it would have been better if they had boiled longer and make it softer. As for the crayfish, it tasted normal. All in all, the only saving factor would be the yummy green curry as the rest of the items for this dish tasted mediocre.

Here's the photo of her Tom Yum Seafood noodle:

Similar to the Green Curry, the Tom Yum Seafood noodle tasted a little too salty too. For the first taste, the Tom Yum tasted good but on subsequent tastes, the effects wore off and I felt the taste became normal and stagnating. As for the potato cubes, as usual they were hard and tasteless, hence she totally didn't eat the potato cubes at all. Seafood portion wasn't a lot too. There were only a handful mixture of small prawn, squid but we think it was slightly too little.

Here's the photo of our first side dish: Otah ($8.90)

For the price of $8.90, the otah certainly seems pricey upon first impression. But as we bite into the otah meat, we were surprised to find that it consist of pure fish meat that is soft and tender and tasted good. Also, there were a few prawns scattered in the otah too. I ordered the otah out of curiosity. Although it tasted good, but if you ask me, I won't re-order on my next visit as there's nothing special about the otah, for the $8.90 price that was charged for that 1 piece of otah. If I top up an additional $2, I could have gotten a bowl of noodle at around $10+.

Here's the photo of our second side dish: Fried Pancake

I would say this Fried Pancake tasted good but other than that, I also won't re-order on my next visit as there's no compelling reason for me to eat it again. The sweet chilli sauce that accompanied the Fried Pancake was nice.

Here's another angle taken of the Fried Pancake, showing what the pancake itself contains.

Before I forgot, the waitress served us a mini starter complimentary dish, with the following photo:

We were pleased with the service level of the waitresses as they were very prompt when we waved for one of them to take our orders. Also, they were very friendly and polite during the order-taking. However one thing they could have improve on is the refilling of our glass of ice-water. Although they walked past us a few times, they didn't help us to refill our ice-water until I signaled for them to do so.

Our orders are:
1) Green curry Crayfish Laksa = $14.90
2) Red Tom Yum Seafood Laksa = $9.90
3) Thai Seafood Otah = $7.90
4) Crispy Pancake = $7.90
Total = $47.80 (includes 10% Service Charge + 7% GST)

I think the total cost of our meal is still reasonable, given the serving of our food portions are reasonable and both the broth of the Green Curry and Tom Yum were very yummy! However our dining experience could have further improved if they make both the Green Curry and Tom Yum less salty. Would I re-visit this Thai Express outlet again? Yes I would but I would definitely want to try out their other dishes on my next visit.

Lunch at Thai Express
Just OK 2012-04-30

This Thai express was located at jp. Basement 1. I arrived with a pretty large group of friends and was able to find seats, barely. It was a weekday afternoon but was very crowded. I ordered the Thai curry soft shell crab. The waiters were a little too few and it took very long to take our orders and also to serve them. I waited at least 20 minutes. When it finally came, the portion looked ever so small. I don't remember it looking so tiny before. Two scrawny soft shell crab cowevered with Thai curry was accompanied by an equally scrawny portion of rice. That aside, the dish was good and delicious, as usual. The curry was thick and eggy. The crab was well prepared but a little oily, however nothing bad about it. Hopefully that portion size can be increased, or at least stop shrinking. Costed $13 and I wouldn't say it is cheap, but if you like soft shell crabs, Thai express has one of the best

Thai Express Lunch
Smile 2012-04-30
Ordered a green curry rice set at Thai Express for lunch during the week. It was reasonably priced (overall the meal cost me less than 20) and the components of the set were interesting. There was the green curry rice (contrary to its name, there is no green curry, its merely green curry flavored rice) with hard boil egg, a starchy soup, pulut hitam which is a dessert of glutinous rice and coconut, and a kind of salad mostly made up of pomelo bits. I enjoyed the soup and the pomelo salad the most. Overall 8/10 for taste and 10/10 for sufficient portion.

Service is a definite 10/10. The uncle who served us was so enthusiastic he really made my day just seeing him enjoying his work.

thai express for dinner
Smile 2012-03-10
I went to thai express with my hubby and kids for dinner the other night. We ordered pineapple rice each and a bowl of tom yum soup. somehow the portion seems smaller than before but never the less the soup tasted really good. their tom yum soup does not have any chilli oil floating on top. they added a lot of ingredients like seafood, mushroom into the soup. the seafood was really fresh. The soup was a little hot for my kids but my hubby and I found it just right, like those we ate in Thailand.

bad service
Just OK 2012-03-07
first time try thai express at jurong point and I was very disappointed with the service. I went down for dinner with my boyfriend and we went into the restaurant way before the dinner crowd arrive but the waiters were taking their own sweet time to take our orders despite us waving to them like mad. after that, the staff keep mixing up our orders with other customers. In addition, i specifically told the staff to have less spicy for my mango salad but it tasted even spicier than the previous time i tried. I hope this bad service was an individual incident

birthday platter
Smile 2012-02-27
When my girlfriend and i were seated at thai express, the waitress was promoting us the membership card. Normally we would reject almost immediately when they start their sales speech but this time, the promotion was so attraction. This month happens to be my girlfriend’s birthday month so the promotion they had suited us. They had this birthday platter which was worth $20 and a $15 birthday voucher. On top of that, they had this 10% discount too. we ordered quite a number of dishes and the meal only added up to less than $40. The birthday platter was really good. it had a variety of thai express’s signature side dishes. I like the mango salad the best, it was not too sour and was rather sweetish. The mango was very crunchy as well. the drumlets were very fragrant and crunchy, goes well with the thai chilli dip. The membership is very worth it.

awesome!

thai spicy chicken rice set

tom yum noodle

I ordered the tom yam seafood noodle soup and asked for extra chili! It was very very spicy! (look at the pieces of chili padi!!!) I kind of suffered while eating it however, it was really shiok! hahah. Love the spicy soup! There were quite a few pieces of seafood and the soup was flavourful despite it being a little too spicy. Will definitely go back for more! (but no extra chili the next time)

thai style fried rice

Tasted more or less like the normal seafood fried rice, nothing special. It tastes better If you eat it together with the special sauce they provided.

Tom Yam Soup!
Smile 2011-09-28
I had a Tom yam fish soup set for $8.90. It was delicious! When you mention Tom Yam, a red chilli coloured soup naturally comes to mind. But at Thai Express, the Tom Yam Soup is clear! The intial taste was really sour. It literally spiked into my taste sensory buds. But soon it was calmer and I am in love with it! The soup was well balanced. The spicy and sour taste was maintained by plums and chilli padi. The mushroom was well cooked. The fish and prawns were alright.
