A heartwarming family lunch at Jumbo...
Smile 2013-02-23

We decided to head down to Jumbo Seafood @ Dempsey for a triple celebration – CNY lunch with parents + mum’s birthday + Valentine’s Day lunch. What a combination, right? tongue

The place was nicely decorated with CNY ornaments and we were promptly ushered to our table.

Pen Cai ($268++)
Simply delicious and heavenly! This Pen Cai tasted much better than Paradise Group’s one which we had during reunion dinner. Laced with live prawns, baby abalone, dried and fresh scallops, sea cucumber, fish maw and many other delicacies; the sweetness and essences of the myriad of ingredients emerged from the pot and a whirl of flavours greeted our taste buds.

   Pen Cai

The ingredients blended harmoniously together and the soup broth was rich and tasty. The stars of the dish – live prawns, baby abalone, scallops, sea cucumber, fish maw and mushrooms – were fresh and well braised. The only shortfall, I feel, were the baby abalones which were slightly overcooked, and therefore, tougher than usual.

   Star Ingredients

The hidden gems - boiled chicken and roasted duck tucked at the bottom of the pot – were light, soft and tender, a complement to the rich flavours exuded by the sea treasures.

Yu Sheng ($48++)
The waitress that helped prepare our Prosperity Yu Sheng was friendly and warm. Auspicious words were uttered with every ingredient added and soon, we were tossing to a bountiful snake year ahead! Good ol’ traditional lo-hei during this festive period to usher in abundance, prosperity, vigor and harmony among the family.

   Yu Sheng

Truly a memorable and exceptional dining experience – where we unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and where family bond blossoms.

Jumbo Seafood @ Dempsey Road
Smile 2013-01-19

Jumbo Seafood have been popular with their chili crab and some of the dishes and as recommended by some friends, we went to this place for our dinner.
The Jumbo Seafood at Dempsey is a nice place with spacious seat so the staff or customers are able to walk easily without knocking on the chairs.
As for the staff, they are friendly and knows how to recommend you dishes if you are unable to decide what to have for your meals.

   Scallops Wrapped in Yam Ring ($16 / $24 / $32)

This is a must try dish recommended by me as one thing for sure, scallops are very freshly done while the Yam Ring are very crispy on the outside while very smooth within and most important thing is that it does not dry your throat after eating it (Some Yam are very dry to your throat if it is not prepared well)

Golden Phoenix Chicken ($18 for half, $32 for whole chicken)

These chicken are being roasted till the skin are very crispy and they actually mixed the meat into some paste before deep frying it. Nice dish to have as it is very crispy and you are not actually eating the chicken meat. Good dish for any age.

Deep Fried Pork Knuckles ($18 per portion)

Pork Knuckles are being deep fried till very crispy on the outter layer while the fresh meat are very juicy without losing any of its nice taste. On top of it, the chef put some fried garlic, chili and veg to enhance the overall taste of this dish.

   Fried buns

   Chili Crab (Seasonal Price)

This is their famous chili crab but for my point of view, it is just ok for me as if I am not wrong, the taste is being changed to suit the taste bud of most Singaporean and another reason being I am not really into chili crab. nevertheless, the sauce of the chili crab is very good to be eaten with the small fried buns.

   Egg Yolk Crab (Seasonal Price)

This is more on the wet version of the egg yolk crab and for me, I do not really taste the egg yolk for this dish.

   Deep fried bean curd

The bean curd are mixed together with some seaweed before deep frying it and pouring a mixture of mushroom sauce onto it. The overall taste for this dish is very soft on the inside while the skin part of the bean curd are a little bit of crispy feeling.

Jumbo Dempsey
Just OK 2012-06-14

There are many descent eateries in Dempsey Hill, Jumbo seafood is among one of them. The service is good, but the song tracks they play in the background kept on repeating, we have listened to the same songs at least 5 or 6 times during our dinner. Perhaps they should prepare more songs? Anyway, food was good. We ordered the set meal. First dish consists of 4 appetizers. The deep-fried tofu with pork floss is crispy outside and soft inside; jelly fish is marinated in sour and spicy sauce, very appetizing; sliced duck meat is served with cucumber, refreshing...

The asparagus dish is tasty too. The asparagus is fresh and crunchy in texture. The presentation is pretty too.

As for the crab, we ordered the signature chilli crab. The gravy is very yummy, thick and flavourful, very nice to eat with the deep-fried man tou (plain bun).

Smile 2011-09-11

The chilli crab is so tasty and delicious with the mantou! Ordered the set menu that includes the shark fins soup, spinach topped with shredded dried scallop strips and ended with mango sago pomelo dessert! Definitely recommended to be the place to have crabs! smile

Pepper Crabs Up The Hill
Smile 2011-06-29

One of the usual hangouts after a good massage in town, I love to come here to end the evening with a good meal.

Having been to most Jumbo branches, I love this place for it's ambience.. Although it's usually crowded, but the noise level is not as bad as other restaurants I have been when it's packed with people.

Crabs!
Smile 2011-05-28

Chili crabs are a must during any visit to Jumbo. Cause they are the most popular dish of the restaurant ever. Juicy succulent crab meat with their chili sauce and fried mantou. I always search for the egg white in the chili sauce to go with the fried buns. Super sinful but it the thought of it makes me hungry all over. The crabs are by weight and seasonal pricing, so it is best to ask the waitress to gauge the approximate number of crabs for your group instead of blindly ordering.

Nice seafood but air-con leaking onto me.
Smile 2011-03-09

I happened to have some Dempsey Hill vouchers and decided to utilize part of it here at Jumbo Dempsey Hill.

Previously I have already eaten at Riverview Jumbo and loved the seafood though it was so SMOKY over there, smoke from the kitchen leaked into the dining hall.

But I digress, here at the Dempsey Hill Branch, they tried to introduce an element of sophistication here to cater to the mostly expatriate customer base here with a glass showcase of all the red wines they have available.

I happened to sit next to this glass display, since they are mostly full. And unfortunately, it's also the spot where the air-con is constantly dripping on me! But I can't change table, only outside table left. So I adjusted my seating position and the dripping thankfully stopped soon after.

We decided to order ala-carte instead of the set menu. We have herbal prawn, which I don't quite fancy because it's too herbal tasting to me though my companion loved it. We also had Sharkfin's soup, mixed vegetables with scallops, and a very nice honey dew sago, which we liked very much.

The price here is quite ex. It's very easy to spend up to $100 for two person.

I didn't order the Chili crab since I already eaten it at Riverview and it's really good. Big, juicy and with Mantao. Delish!
