Light porridge with homely feel from Taiwan
Smile 2012-05-25

I heard a lot of this taiwan porridge from friends and decided to try out myself.. turns out it's quite similar to home-cooked food, it may be good to some if they've been away from home for sometime. I mean, how often can you eat something which reminds you of your lovely family cooking this love-dish for you?

The best thing is they have steamed peanuts which is my favourite sidedish! It's a great combination with this porridge which is light and soft, not my favourite, i prefer congee-style but remembering the times where i was younger and my mother told me that apparently watery porridge is healthier or something. i'd prefer if they had some brown rice porridge. the style is quite similar to taiwan where its' in smaller portions but you get to eat a wide variety of food.

its a quality lunch definitely, and pricey too. apparently its the 5 most popular dishes from taiwan mixed with porridge but i didn't know that or heard of it when i was in taiwan.. so.....

High Tea buffet
Smile 2012-05-06

If you are a big fan of durian, the high-tea buffet here serves one of the best durian paste in town and also there are sliced mini durian cakes and puffs available on their buffet spread as well. Many of us, which just and the like me, came here for the purpose of grabing lots of durian in our tummy. The durian paste is served cold and the texture of it is really smooth and not too sweet. The puffs are fluffy and really goes well with the cold durian paste filling in it. Unlimited servings of their signature during desserts really attract lots of people attention and these yummy desserts is really priceless.

Lunch @ Goodwood Park's Coffee Lounge
Smile 2012-01-26

Best known for their Taiwanese Porridge, the coffee lounge also provides The “Design Your Own Local Degustation Set Menu” which allows customers to choose 4 or 5 out of the best known local dishes to eat (in small portion though)

But since as a singaporean i have tried most of the Local Dishes, why not skip it for this time and try the Taiwan Porridge instead.

Managed to get a table along the window panel, service was good. nice place to have brunch with your close ones.

Fried Taman Fish with Sesame Seeds (Damn crispy and nice, love it)

Braised Pork Belly with Dark Soya Sauce (Best and Must try of all dishes, the pork belly instantly melts in your mouth)

Steamed Sea Bass With Crispy Bean Paste (crispy Bean paste is very hard but goes well with the porridge, and fish is fresh)

Wok-fried Beef with Black Pepper (Very nice and tender)

Chilled Beancurd in Japenese Soya Sauce & Pork Floss (ok)

Sauteed Prawns with Dried Chilli (Not bad, Prawn quite fresh and Q~~~)

Mango Pamelo Sago (Very Nice)

Bread and Pudding (Nice and Rich)

Since there are so many dishes that i have tried, and i really wish to share the pictures with other readers, so i have pasted the URL to the pictures for viewing purpose.

Anyway for the price that i have paid for the meal, is consider a little expensive just for porridge alone. but it will be a good place if you are willingly to pay for good food. =)
remember to skip your breakfast so that you can eat more when you are here!

They offer at least two kind of cooking methods to each kind of meat/vegetables.

The Coffee Lounge has really awesome durian ice cream! Easily th best I ever had so far. You are able to instantly taste the sweetness of the durian in the ice cream. This is totally heavenly. The ice cream’s texture is smooth, thick and you know that the durian is of quality, really awesome! There are even durian bits in the ice cream, allowing you to bite on them. GREAT ICE CREAM!

This year the new flavour lime with lychee
At first i feel abit weird,As never tried before lime flavour
but it was so nice
The skin was so chewy, soft, goes well with the marshmellow
It' not sweet & there's small bite of lychee meat
Among 4flavour i still prefer "durian "
The filling is not as much as "home's favourite"
but the sweetness was just right for me
The lime one even i put inside freezer the skin still so chewy & soft but the other 3 flavour won't,which a bit weird

delicious snow skin mooncake
Smile 2011-09-10

I always love this time of the year, it is the mooncake season. everywhere you go, there will be booths set up. but for me, i am a goodwood park hotel mooncake fan. every year without fail, my dad would drop me and my mum outside the hotel, we will head in to buy their delicious mooncakes. my sister and i are snowskin fans, so my parents will always buy their snowskin mooncake. i bought two pieces of lychee lime marshmellow mooncake and finish it by myself. i know it was fattening, but after trying some at my best friend's house, i know i have to eat it up myself. the skin is so chewy, even leaving in the freezer, it does not harden. the lychee filling is so strong and fragrant. the lime marshmellow gives it a little sourish contrast. must must must buy it!

goodwood durian
Just OK 2011-09-06

I am a lover for durian ,wanted to try
but really abit expensive till
i saw they have promotion if paying by credit card
so purchase it & try
durian puff - smooth texture with a thick filling of durian cream
i took out from fridge for about 1hour plus but still slightly frozen so it was a little icy
durian cake -mousse durian cake was actually quite light
i won't buy again as i find that their durian was not so authentic
it taste more like cream rather than real durian meat
overall i rate 6/10

Traditional mooncake with double yoke
Smile 2011-09-06

Traditional baked mooncake is my beloved festival food, among all festivals food, I love mooncake the most, second position will be May dumpling. It is always an indulgence for me to have a whole piece of mooncake with double yoke. Forget about the calories, fat, sugar…..etc in the meantime.

This is my second year to receive Goodwood Park hotel’s baked mooncake. A friend of mine specially bought for me as she knew I loved it. I was overjoyed when she handed this box to me yesterday, it was really touching and thankful for her kindness.

I couldn’t wait longer to have a taste of it. A taste!?! I ate it for my dinner last night, yes, one whole piece, it should be a BIG taste to be frank! Creamy smooth lotus seed paste filling, not so sweet or oily, both yokes have the right amount of oil in the centre, the baked skin has a caramel flavour. It does an indulgence for once a year.

Durian Fiesta
Smile 2011-07-05

Goodwood Park.. you know it's gonna be good!

It happens but once a year, the Goodwood Park throws open it’s doors for it’s Durian Fiesta; an endless supply of durian inspired deserts for one to eat! Since I'd been barred from eating durian at home I decided to get my durian fix here with some colleagues from work!

For SGD26.80++ you can enjoy sumptuous regulars like:

Durian Puffs

Who could ask for more.. choux pastry filled with durian and cream? Ok I have to admit that the choux pastry could have been a little less dry, but the durian more than made up for it.

Durian Mousse Cake

I didn’t really like the sponge with the durian, it kind of left the mouth a little dry and parched, a cup of nice hot black tea would have hit the spot with this slice of cake!

Durian Crepe

I was disappointed when I ate this. Sure it was freshly made, but the crepe tasted more like a pancake! It was just way too thick and it felt as though I was chewing on a tyre. The durian filling itself was yum!

Durian Pudding

This was delicious, not runny and not too thick! There were large chunks of durian in the pudding that you could sink your teeth into. Bliss!

Durian Oreo Cake

Another dish that was more a miss for me, sadly the whipped cream took over the desert, I wasn’t able to really taste and appreciate the durian.

Durian Cappuccino Cake

This was a new addition to the menu this year! And as weird as it sounds; combining durian paste with a cappuccino cream went so well together (I went back for seconds)!

All in all I had a blast, it was a good thing I played tennis prior to going for this buffet, I was well and truly stuffed!

High-Tea Buffet At Goodwood Park hotel
Smile 2011-06-30

Beside well known for their variety of durian pastries and cakes, Goodwood park hotel is also a great place to have nice high tea with friends. Their other types of pastries and cakes are also equally delicious. Especially their dark chocolate swiss roll cakes taste really yummy! Service here is also prompt and good. My verdict: 7/10

Durian treats, all year round
Smile 2010-12-31

Launched only this year, Goodwood Park Hotel's homemade durian ice cream is available until 7 January 2011 for takeaway from the Deli at S$14.80 for a 16oz tub. Smooth, creamy and robust in flavor, the durian ice cream here ($6.50++ a scoop) is easily one of the best in Singapore. If only it was less pricey!

I also ordered the Durian crêpes ($15++). I love the fact this item is permanently featured on the menu, providing me with my durian fix even when the theony fruit is not in season. This dessert compirised two thin crêpes generously filled with smooth and creamy D24 durian pulp, crowned with a scoop of Mövenpick vanilla ice cream. Don't be fooled by the seemingly manageable portion size in the above picture- I would not advise one to attempt to finish this by oneself after a meal, unless you have an unusually large appetite for durian creations.

Best Durain Buffet
Smile 2010-12-25

Heard of Goodwood Park Hotel's famous durian buffet? Then you must not miss it when the durian season is here next year!

The buffet has quite a range of durain products ranging from durian puffs to Durian cakes, Durian moose, and crepes. You will have to go down and try it yourself. Definitely worth the money if you are a durian lover.

Tucked in the coffee lounge inside Goodwood Park Hotel, you can enjoy a walk around the hotel during the visit too.

Its "GOOD"Wood Snowskin!
Smile 2010-09-18

Believed that the kitchen crew and chef that create the delicious array of mooncakes offered by Goodwood Hotel is similar to the groupie behind Coffee Lounge...I have decided to tag my reviews on them as a salute to their efforts and passion!

Was @ Jurong Point yesterday for dinner and chanced upon a long queue with anxious onlookers. After observing where the line leads to, I realised that it was for the mooncake booth by Goodwood Hotel. The die hard fans were filled with anxiety on whether they are able to land a box of hotselling mooncake within their reach! Totally convinced, I joined in the queue and was impressed again by the standards of mooncake that restaurants and hotels are offering...no complains or regrets!

As explained by the counter staff at the booth....the apple caramel was introduced to replace the soursop flavor from last year so this is actually a new flavor right hot from the "freezer". The mooncake contained green apple puree along with nicely cut cubes of crunchy apple that retain the freshness and compliment with the mild taste of caramel that is so supportively infused! Love the refreshness of this litte green monster! Going @ only $24 in a 2 piece box set and with an additional 15 % off for UOB card holders, its definitely a great buy that promise to engage and blast you off with great taste !

A must buy for all mooncake lovers!!!!

Ups!!!

Durian pastries-cum-dessert buffet @ Goodwood Park
Smile 2010-07-30

Although the information on the establishment's website stated that dinner would commence at 6pm, I had to wait till 6.06pm before being granted entry, as the staff had to set up the cutlery for dinner. Although I was invited by the staff to wait at the plush chairs outside the main dining area, as a person who values punctuality, I was still not quite pleased with this matter.

Being very much the greedy goose, l felt the dire need to sample everything offered in the buffet spread. And I almost did, save for the (1) ang ku kueh, (2) lapis sagu, (3) mini ondeh ondeh, (4) the ice-cream toppings, (5) the unsliced green apples and oranges which she's guessing that almost no one eats anyway.

The dessert-cum-durian buffet goes for $24.80++ per person, or for $18.80++ with any ala carte order. FYI the cheapest item on the menu goes for $6++ (chicken tenders?). Note that the food available on the menu, with the exception of the durian ice-cream which goes for $6.50++ per scoop, are all savory items. I was hoping for all the durian pastries to be included in the menu as well, as I was looking forward to trying the durian strudel, but this was not the case. Only the durian puffs, durian oreo cake, durian pudding, durianmisu, as well as the durian roll and durian pancakes which are exclusive to the buffet were available.

To save stomach space and hence make the most out of the price paid, we chose to go for the dessert-cum-durian buffet exclusively.

Goodwood Park Hotel's famed durian puffs feature smooth, rich durian cream sandwiched between light choux pastry. Definitely the most decent ones I've ever had!

Durianmisu (the photo's too ugly haha, why don't buffets serve tiramisu in small individual servings instead of leaving diners puzzled over how to scoop out a portion?): The pungent durian pulp combined well with the smooth mascarpone cheese, but the equally strong flavor of the espresso in the sponge layer did not blend in with that of the former... Have two portions of this, like I did, and I guarantee that you'll be quite bloated.

One of my friends described the Durian Oreo Cake to be very similar to Goodwood Park's famed Durian Mousse Cake, except that it is coated in cookie crumbs. Comprising smooth and creamy durian mousse sitting on a soft sponge base, I would have taken a second slice if I had the stomach space to do so! However, I don't think it deserves its reputation as 'legendary'. Being a durian fanatic, I would have liked a stronger durian kick.

The cheesecake was smooth and light, but was too mild in flavor.

The brownie with mousse (?) was slightly too sweet, so was the Hazelnut mousse with chocolate flourless cake.

Apricot mousse tartlet: Ordinary- it was simply a square of mousse on a stiff tart base.

Bread pudding: Just average, I should have just taken a smaller slice...

Chocolate Crumble Tart: Probably the best non-durian confection around. Note that it was not particularly good though... get what I'm trying to imply about the quality of the non-durian desserts served?

Green tea cake with red bean: The sponge was soft, but lacked in the taste of matcha.
Durian pancakes: The star of the buffet! Save for eating it on its own, having durian in the form of a cold, creamy and pungent oozing out out a thin warm pancake is the best way to enjoy it IMO!

Panna Cotta with Madeleine: Where's the madeleine? The panna cotta was placed in a small cup but there were no suitably-sized utensils provided. Poking through the cup with a fork of almost the same diameter as its opening,

Mango Pudding: More like mango-flavored pudding, average.

The Durian pudding was smooth and revealed generous portions of durian pulp inside. While I enjoyed it, the pudding got a bit overwhelming after a while... perhaps it was also because I was really full then.

There was also a small selection of fruits, Movenpick ice-cream and Nonya kueh. Two traditional soup desserts were served as well: pulut hitam, and gingko nut and barley with beancurd skin and quail's eggs. The pulut hitam was alright, but the latter was not bad at all. The savory quail's eggs matched surprising well with the silky barley soup!

Verdict: Come to this buffet only if you fancy durian desserts available. And do order some savory stuff to go along, I was surprised that I soon got sick of eating sweet stuff although I love my desserts!
