This stall opens on Sunday with most than half of the stalls in this food centre closed. The queue can be quite long but even so the waiting time is quite short. They used to sell the fried fish nuggets as a side dish but no more now. You can only pay to have an extra amount of fried fish nuggets if you order their lor mee. I tend to compare this stall with another at Tiong Bahru but very much prefer the fried sharkfish nuggets over here. Their lor mee came with the usual ingredients like braised egg, ngor hiang and braised meat too. Their braised sauce is bit more diluted and not as sticky but it goes well with the yellow noodle and tasted delicious.

FRIED CARROT CAKE
Just OK 2012-07-26

smile

This stall is located in Tanjong Pagar Plaza Food Centre.

This evening after work, I meet my friend and decide to take our dinner at the nearby Food Centre.

My friend, Mag introduces this homemade fried Carrot cake to me. I have been told that the stall owner is run by a middle age couples who are inherit the stall from his father.

The couples are very friendly to us as Mag is very familiar to them.

Mag orders the black sauce with egg and I order the white color (sauce less) fried without egg is charge in $2.50 and $2.00 respectively.

The dishes are very fragrance and good taste. You can request for carrot cake fried with chili or without chili or chili place aside. Their homemade special chili is perfectly matching to the food. The dish is not very oily and is very delicious.

Lor mee
Smile 2011-12-14

I would guess deep fried shark meat balls are the main attraction of this stall. Whenever I pass by this place, queue is expected to be seen at this stall, even though it is a quiet Sunday morning/lunch. As the location matter, many stalls are shut due to office crowd is disappeared on Sunday. The whole hawker centre is pretty quiet with neighbourhood dinners mainly.

Choices are limited, so one who has to expect the waiting time even longer. It takes about 15~20 minutes at least. They serve one type of lor mee, ingredients are fixed, shark meat ball is not serving and replace by deep fried chicken ball that Sunday. The owner didn’t explain the reason though. The only difference is big or small bowl for your choice. They serve and cook one type of lor mee but it takes ages for them to be served! It is really inefficient.

Having said that this bowl of lor mee is quite appetising in terms of colour and presentation, whether the waiting time is worth or not, it depends on one’s value. Taste wise, it is the usual type of lor mee gravy soup, this one is rather watery, texture is smooth. If the owner is not going to serve shark meat ball for good, I wonder will there still be so many patrons!

Lor Mee @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza
Smile 2011-07-14

Many years never eat Lor Mee at this stall. Used to work nearby here a few years back. The quene is always there for Lor Mee with Fried Shark meat. Yesterday i went there to eat Lor Mee at $2.50(small). But they did not include the fried shark meat, so i check with the stall person, he mentioned only $3(big) bowl of Lor Mee will have fried shark meat. I guess due to inflation and many things of the prices had gone up. The only special ingredient for this Lor Mee is the fried shark meat, which other stalls do not have.

Shark fish nuggets Lor Mee.
Smile 2011-05-25

This is one of my regular hangouts for Lor Mee.

I believe this is one of the first Lor Mee stalls that started to add shark fish nuggets to their Lor Mee years ago. I usually go for the $4.00 portion with extra ingredients of ngor hiang, braised meat, braised egg and shark fish nuggets added.

They used to sell shark fish nuggets as a side dish but stopped after an increase in demand. Auntie was telling me the demand got so high to a certain extent that they could no longer meet. Now, you can only add extra shark fish nuggets to your lor mee.

My way of eating is to add extra chilli with extra garlic paste with extra red cut chillies to the flat yellow noodle. The lor (sauce) is the diluted version not as thick as compared to the other famous Lor Mee stall at Amoy Street Food Centre. No matter, it's still really nice.

Highly recommended.

Lor Mee - Delightful & Delicious & Special
Smile 2010-11-05

Lor Mee, probably one of Singapore’s favourite local food delights and definitely one of my favourite food delights. Soon Heng Food Delights Lor Mee, tucked away in one of Singapore’s oldest hawker centre, in the middle of the Central Business District, in the heart of the Tanjong Pagar.

Can you see the ingredients inside the bowl ? Did you see 2 deep fried “fish ball” ? Do you know what it is ? It’s not your average fish ball, it’s deep fried shark meat ball !! The Lor Mee soup/gravy base is not as thick, however, it is just as smooth, delicious and doesn’t turn soggy quickly, retaining its texture, smoothness and taste.

Their ingredients are a mixed of Ngoh Hiang a.k.a Wu Xiang and this make this Lor Mee special and unique. Their chili comes in 2 types, sliced chili and belacan chili, along with the nicely mashed garlic, put them together into the Lor Mee gravy/soup and you have a great combination !

When you see a queue at a hawker stall in Singapore's hawker centres, you would be thinking whether are people following the queue being curious about it or is the food is really that nice.

For Soon Heng Food Delights, the Lor Mee is worth the queue and it is really nice, tasty and delicious! Go try it out!
