Steam fish and fungus
Smile 2013-05-12

Sliced steam fish and fungus is a really light and tasteful dish. Love the well steamed fish that is not overcooked and is cooked to perfection. The steamed fish goes really well with the black fungus and the taste of the dish is really great. The dish goes well with a bowl of white rice as this dish as sauces to it so the gravy of the dish can coat the white rice making your meal more tasty.

One of The Dim Sum Place to Go
Smile 2013-02-02

Dim sum when order might be costly, a better deal is to head to ala-carte Dim Sum Buffet! Peach Garden is one of the places to head to that serve dim sum traditionally with the push cart.

Beside the push cart that serve dim sum there's a buffet section with hot selection and a small section for dessert in the middle.

At the hot selection, some dishes they offer are fried rice, fried carrot cake with bean sprouts in XO sauce is one of the house special.

I will called this a big Wanton wrap soup - very special!

Cheese ball for the cheese lover - very modern dim sum serve here at Peach Garden!

Also, there's beacon wrap - NICE!

Some usual Dim Sum:

Service was good, very prompt and attentive. A great place for a weekends high tea dim sum with family.

P.S. Parking is a hazard on weekends.

Affordable Dim Sum @ Peach Garden
Smile 2012-07-31

If you are planning for weekend dim sum, Peach Garden is not bad of a choice as the price is affordable plus they have the UOB card promotion.

With UOB card, 5 pax is only $97.90 - there's $19.52 per pax!

Dim sum is serve the old fashion way here at Peach Garden:

On menu, the usual dim sum spread are offer here at Peach Garden:

It is not the best of best dim sum, but for the price you can't bargain for more.

Special on their menu are:

Vinegar pork stew with

The soup is quite pleasant!

Old school style ice cream with biscuit - once you hear the bell ring, that's dessert time at Peach Garden!

Overall, food is decent however the demand don't meet the supply - I didn't get to have my fruit because it is empty by the time I wanted mine.

Nothing close to the Novena one
Cries 2012-07-10

See the pictures at http://thehungrybunnie.blogspot.com

The main problem I had was that the dim sum were just so very lackluster, and generally ho-hum. I'd expected more, as I'd really good meals at their CBD and Sichuan branches. They were below par with the stuff served at the mass marketed Crystal Jade Kitchen branches, which have lower price points than Peach Garden. I just felt that you just don't get your money's worth here.

We had:

1) Siew Mai Steamed Pork Dumpling ($4.20): very strong "porky" smell and taste, which meant the pork wasn't sparkling fresh.

2) Steamed Scallop and Prawn Dumpling ($4.20): this fared better in comparison (which isn't saying much). The dumpling skin was thin and chewy, and seafood was reasonably fresh but admittedly not particularly sweet. We had to dip this in a bit of soy because it was lacking in flavour

3) Steamed Radish and Mushroom Rice Roll ($3.90): probably the best dish, which isn't saying much either, but this is the one dish that actually stood out. The chives-laced rice roll skin was thin and chewy, and stuffed generously with sweet and crunchy radish strips and juicy mushrooms. A most pleasant vegetarian rice roll

4) Rice Roll with BBQ Pork ($4.30) - quite commendable. Translucent and thin chewy skin, plentiful sweetly charred diced char siew and delicate soy made for a well done dish

5) Pan-fried Carrot Cake ($3.60): also lackluster. This was served tepid so it just tasted like cold mush, which was most unfortunate. It would have been passable if it was freshly fried, or reheated

Dim Sum Buffet
Smile 2012-07-06

Before 3pm, a large crowd already gathered outside the restaurant. Everyone was only allowed to be seated exactly at 3pm. This was my first time having dim sum buffet and I didn't know it was so competitive! Luckily we had a big group and distributed ourselves to queue and grab any dim sum that was available.

Overall the dim sum were pretty good but limited in varieties for the buffet. If you want to try other stuff such as custard bun, you need to order from the ala carte menu

My favourite is the siew mai with soft thin skin packed with fresh pork and prawns. The char siew bun was also very good with is soft fluffy skin and the sweet honey char siew fillings.

Tim Sum and Dessert
Smile 2012-06-29

Personally, I don't have much choices when it comes to Tim Sum. I don't like pork so many of the items will not be on my list. We ordered the usual fried prawn dumpling, seaweed prawn roll, the steam prawn dumpling. In this review, I especially like to recommend the desserts. They seem to have a new menu for desserts, more interesting.

   Almond paste in coconut

As a continuation of my crave for almond paste, I ordered this interesting almond paste in coconut. Initially, I thought the coconut was added into the paste but I was surprised to see that the paste was served in the coconut instead. Very special and delicious. The 'meat' of the coconut was fresh too.smile

Dessert
Smile 2012-06-29

I love dessert and after each meal, I would love to have dessert. This time, after lunch, as my stomach wasn't full, I asked my dad if I could order a dessert and he agreed. The whole family ordered one dessert each and I chose the dessert called Apple Jelly with Ice Cream. Seeing the words Apple Jelly and Ice Cream, it attracted my attention, and thinking it would be nice, ordered it. Well, it turned out alright. There was cocktail too. THe jelly was sweet, the ice cream was normal and the cocktail, normal too. It made quite a good combination and I am glad I chose that rather than choosing other desserts like Mango Pudding. This is something unique and it wouldn't be found in many other places.

Better off having ala carte elsewhere
Just OK 2012-01-09

I was enticed by the prospect of stuffing myself with dim sum for tea so headed down to Peach Garden @ Thomson one Sunday afternoon. The last time I had dim sum at Peach Garden, the fare was decent and I was under the impression that if food quality remained consistent, this dim sum buffet could be well worth the money.

Ambience

The place has a typical Chinese restaurant setting and looks deceptively small from the outside. The interior however, can seat probably in excess of a hundred pax. Though the place was packed to the rafters with people, I appreciate the fact that tables are spaced adequately apart, which makes for more privacy.

Variety

There is a "live" station where service staff dish out carrot cake, fried chicken, ice cream and the likes. Usual suspects like porridge, fruits and desserts can also be found at the station. Dim sum trolleys are pushed around periodically and you merely have to inform the wait staff of the dishes you desire. I counted less then 20 different dim sum varieties off the trolley, which include both steamed and fried variants. I found it quite a pity that Peach Garden didn't include their much loved (by me) custard bun in the buffet lineup.

Quality

Personally, I thought that the quality was average at best. The best dishes were probably the Har Gao and the Walls ice cream served up between 2 wafer biscuits. Everything else either tasted out of sorts or was too oily. We threw in the towel after only about half an hour when the whole buffet was suppose to last for two. I guess that says a lot doesn't it

Service

Service was quite acceptably decent. No big boo boos or anything and our tea got refilled quite constantly.

Value for money

The buffet is not expensive per se but factor in the quality and I'm better off having ala carte elsewhere. This deal is only good if quality isn't of the utmost priority and you just wish to gorge yourself silly.

Peach Garden
Just OK 2011-10-02

Had dinner at the Peach Garden. We ordered the duck noodles but the duck was a little on the dry. The beef tenderloin we ordered was a pleasant surprise! It is tender and juicy, it had the melt-in-your-mouth sensation. The black pepper sauce also helped to enhance the taste of the dish. It is easily the best item we had that night at Peach Garden. Their dim sum is not bad too!

Peach Garden
Smile 2011-08-29

This is a little backtracked; I remember having a high tea buffet here on a Sunday. It was a Cantonese affair buffet. It ranged from a wide variety: char siew pao, siew mai, pork ribs, har gow, century egg congee, fried taro, fried cheese balls, egg tarts and the list goes on.

Peach Garden has good customer service. For the dim sum, what they did was that the staff came around with trolleys serving dim sum right to your table. They also made it a point to refill our tea cups. There was also a buffet area, for varieties like fried tofu, noodles and congee. It could be self-help but there'd also be staff to assist you.

For dessert, there were cold ones like ice-cream and fruits, hot ones like bobo cha cha.

When I stepped into the restaurant today, I was surprised. When has it become so small. It used to be much larger. Now it was half it's original size. It used to be very crowded, but today it was only half filled.

There were two push carts, one serving the steam type Dim Sum and the other serving the fried type. I ordered the fried prawn dumplings, fried Beancurd Skin roll, steam prawn dumplings, chicken feet (my hubby's favourite) and the century egg porridge.

   Appetizer

The steam peanuts appetizer was good. I did't like peanuts but this soft kind was an exception.

   Xiajiao

   Dim Sum

The steam prawn dumplings or Xiajiao has thin skin and lots of prawn fillings, while the skin of the fried one was slightly thicker.

   Century Egg Porridge

My hubby was a little under the weather today, but this bowl of porridge seemed to lift him up.

Fathers' Day Dim Sum
Smile 2011-06-29

II find that the dim sum buffet was worth the price as they even serve double boiled soup and peking duck. The dim sum was of quite good standard , and i like their sweet and sour fish. It taste nice even after it turn cold. My uncle really love the double boiled soup which he took another serving after taking his ice cream. Some of the dim sum was served in trolley and the staff moved around from table to table. Very much similar to what we see in Hong Kong. For less than 30 per person, I felt it was worth the money for the wide varieties in food.
