Thai Food Fair
Just OK 7 days ago

I am doing some shopping when I notice this big jar of green jelly at Isetan Thai Food Fair, which looks much bigger than the type used in chendol. I ask the staff if it is similar to chendol which he answers yes. As it looks very interesting, I decide to order one for takeaway, and also a packet of phat thai as he said it is freshly cooked. Both are nicely packed into containers, with chopsticks and spoons.

Phat Thai Talay ($5.00)
It comes with 3 juicy prawns, alot of fried bean curd pieces and topped up with chilli flakes and chopped peanuts.
It tastes a bit sweet and the noodle tends to stick together but when mixed with the chilli flakes, it becomes super spicy.

Lod Chong ($5.00)
It looks good but the taste is another thing. The green worm like jelly tastes like kueh, not like chendol. I am quite disappointed in the taste and also it is not sweet enough. Very chewy in texture. I feel that the coconut milk is sweeter than the green jelly.

Takeaway dinner from Thai Express
Just OK 2013-05-10

Not very hungry after having super full late lunch. So for dinner, I bought only appetizer and salad for myself and one main dish for hubby's dinner. I ordered a thai green curry and jasmine rice for hubby and mango salad, rice crackers with thai style dip, thai fishcake and prawn toast for sharing. The green curry was very good with generous serving of seafood and chicken cubes. As for appetizer, the mango salad and fishcake was nice. The prawn toast is too oily and burnt at the sides. The rice crackers were alright.

express thai food
Smile 2013-02-27

My favourite dish at Thai Express is the longevity noodles in chicken broth, reminds me of what we have every Chinese New Year at my grandma’s. Rice dishes worth trying are the olive rice -my grandma’s absolute favourite. It is difficult to find good olive rice in Singapore, some are too oily, some are too salty, some have too little rice hence the olive taste becomes overpowering, some have too much rice and too little topping making the dish taste bland. Thai Express does this dish perfectly. The pineapple rice is good too, just the right amount of pineapples. . My mum is a great fan of their tom yam soup – quite spicy so those who aren’t able to take food that is too spicy, do abstain from this dish. The green mango salad contained a little too much chilli in my opinion, therefore the taste of the mango was kind of masked. The fish cakes were fairly normal, nothing to rave about. For dessert, I would definitely recommend the mango smoothie. Thai Express isn’t stingy on their mangoes for sure.

Inconsistency at ThaiExpress @ Plaza Sing
Just OK 2012-12-11

I love ThaiExpress in general but it gets a little inconsistent at times in terms of food portions, standards and especially the service.

   OK

   Meh.

My usual order is the Chicken with Basil Leaves and the Sticky Mango Rice so that's what I had that evening. The portion for the chicken was OK, but I can't say the same for my boyfriend's dish which was the Honey Chicken with Rice. I think there were only 2 chicken pieces on his super large plate. Yikes...

Service was extremely slow that evening, probably because of the crowd. But I think it's something ThaiExpress should work on. It takes about 5 minutes to get the attention of the waiters. sad

For dessert we had the Sticky Mango Rice. I think the rice was quite dry and they weren't at all generous with the coconut milk. This dessert dish is usually fantastic here, but it just dropped in standard this particular evening.

Nice Food and Service is good
Smile 2012-12-07

Thai Express at Plaza Singapura is a nice place to go to for a gathering dinner with friends or with your partner. The food is nice and the service is good.

There was once i went there with my friend. and one of the vegetable had a strand of hair. my friend removed it from the plate and placed it at the side. when the manager was clearing our table, he saw the strand of hair and he asked if it came from the food. and we said yes. he then waived off that dish from our bill.

I have been there many times. their waiter or waitress are quite pro-active.

Worth going! smile

THAI EXPRESS

I was having bad cravings for tom yum so my boyfriend took me here for thai dinner. We were in a rush and only had 30 minutes to eat. Although the restaurant was packed on a Sunday night, the lady boss assured us that 30 mins was possible. They quickly took our orders. I had a stick noodles seafood tom yum soup for $11 and my boyfriend had green curry rice ($16) and we shared a rose lime drink. The food came rather promptly served by a very polite waiter. I liked mine! Initially, I thought the tom yum would not have a kick since the soup was not red and spicy looking. I have no idea how they made it spicy then but it was indeed, spicy, sour, slightly sweet and really good. Perhaps it’s better this way without the chilli oil floating at the top. Also, I used to think green curry is pretty mild in spiciness, but this one sure was HOT. My lips were burning red. It’s was not too creamy and decent. The rose and lime drink was something totally unheard of! It turned out to be refreshing (: So we rushed through our dinner, got our bill and managed to finish in exactly 30 mins thanks to their efficient service!

Something Spicy, Something Sweet, Something Thai
Smile 2012-01-30

Had not been to Thai Express for quite some time, and this time, it was good, as always.
As an Orange Card member, one can get many perks and dining rebates.
They have a new range of dining ware and glasses - it HAS been a long time!
The dishes were delicious, as usual - especially the signature crab!
The soft-shelled crab is always my favourite.
The prawn n egg omelette was an interesting change from the norm and the
Fried Kway Teow and Vegetables did not disappoint. The mushrooms always add to the taste of the vegetable dishes, Decided to be a little ambitious and try the dessert - it was too sweet for me, though. The dessert is okay once in blue moon, but not on a regular basis.
Look forward to going back again!!!

Glass Noodles
Smile 2011-07-20

If you are craving for something spicy yet sweet and sour at the same time, the chicken soup with glass noodles is the dish to try. It is one of the new dishes on the menu. Definitely not a disappointment, as the soup was very tasty, spicy and had a lot of flavor. The chicken also tasted really nice.

soft shell crabs
Cries 2011-03-11

It was my first time trying out their soft shell crabs at Thai Express. I'll usually eat them at Japanese restaurants. The dish arrived and I'm upset to say first thing, there were only 2 pieces and secondly, they were soaked in oil. It seemed as if like the kitchen did not even slightly dab them onto paper napkins. I took a bite into it and decided to back off already, it was very crunchy and crispy of course, but the frying oil oozed out like nobody's business. Never ordering this dish again. I know soft shell crabs are already oily to begin with but this one I had was really way too soaked in oil.

Quick Thai Fix!
Smile 2010-11-16

Initially plan to have some high tea at Lao Beijing prior to our movie, but the queues was long enough to turn us off.
Decided to try Thai express instead since It has been ages we had thai food.

There are two dishes which I never fail to order.

1) Curry Soft Shell Crab w/Rice
2) Tom yam soup

Service was prompt and our tom yam soup was serve within 5-7minutes.
The standard were consistent - Clean clear soup base which look harmless but the tom-yam taste will continuously tickle your palate after your first sip.
Seafood ingredient in the soup was fresh. Prawns was crunchy and Squid was not too rubbery. The use of lemongrass was strong enough for my liking.

Next, the Curry soft shell crab rice!
That is my favorite dish from Thai express!
The gravy is thick and flavory with hitches of onions & parsley.
Together with the clean crispy soft shell crab - Its a perfect match!

Overall, its a pleasant experience to dine at Thai express.
Service was excellent. Waitress were attentive and automatically refill our plain water whenever it was half emptied.

Thumbs up.

Weekday lunch
Smile 2010-07-29

Went to Thai Express for lunch, not too crowded when I arrived as I was early to beat the crowd. But there was a queue towards the usual lunch time.

We ordered:-
Mango salad - mango tasted good but the sauce was too sour
Soft shell crab with rice - nice, and I think they have a curry sauce too, goods quite well
Green curry chicken - very thai
Tum yum fish soup - although it looks "white", it's really spicy but really tasty
Fried noodle - although it looks quite dark, taste was good
