Special occasions are not the same without Bengawan Solo’s signature treats such as Kueh Lapis Sagu (rainbow layer cake), Ondeh Ondeh (coconut-coated glutinous rice balls filled with molten palm sugar), Kueh Lapis (spiced layer cake), and butter cakes and cookies. We ordered a cake to celebrate dm's birthday. I asked for a cake with less cream and the staff recommended me this chocolate hazelnut cake ($37.8 per kg). I have to admit that I was rather skeptical at first because this cake looks rather simple. It looks elegant, but not as 'delightful' as other fruit cake. However, I was pleasantly surprise after taken a bite of it. The cake was soft, and rich in Nutella taste which I love. The amount of cream was just right, the first time everyone finished the cake without throwing away the cream!  continue reading

Kueh dadar $1.20 has the lack of pandan fragrance but the proportion of coconut fillings and thickness of the kueh dadar skin was just right. The pandan cheese roll $1.20 had a strong cheese taste (the fillings) but it was not smooth enough. The pandan roll was soft and moist. continue reading

Other than Pandan cake and Kueh Lapis, Bengawan Solo also makes good and delicious Swiss Roll.I had bought this Swiss roll with strawberry jam.The cake texture was soft and fluffy. There was vanila cream and strawberry jam in between the roll. The cake tasted sweet and buttery, the vanila cream tasted slightly salty. The strawberry jam slightly sweet and sourish.  continue reading

It totally comes to my surprise there is actually a cafe inside bengawan solo and yes they are selling chendol! I was looking for somewhere to sit down, relax and chit chat after some walks around the shopping centre and we noticed that Bengawan Solo do provide seatings. Without further ado, we went into the shop and take a look. There, we decided to order some kuehs and chendol. FoodFrom what I know, Bengawan Solo cakes and kuehs have a high standard and it wont disappoint us. Therefore we had chosen assorted kuehs in the box - Kueh Lapis @ $1.80, Kueh Dadar @ $1.20, corn kueh at $1.00 and Pandan Chiffon Cake at $1.20 .Love the fluffy chiffon pandan cake, spongy feelings and doesnt require much strength to have it chewed. A bad side about it is that it does not have much Pandan Fragrance.Corn Kueh is usually my favourite. yammy! This kueh is filled with bits of corns and it gives the crunch out of the pack of slimy coconut aroma kueh. What I love most out of the purchases is the cendol @ $2.80. Sweet tasting black syrup over the "ice mountain"! Finely cut snow flakes that once you put into your tongue it melts down. The coconut milk does taste abit different from other cendol. Yammy striking green jelly with big RED beans. Generous fillings beneath the ice mountain.ServiceService is rather slow. There are 5 workers to man the shop however, i guess the dine in customers are unhappy about the waiting time. Tables are not cleared promptly. I have to wait about 15 minutes to have the cendol served.AmbienceTables are fully packed. It's all placed in the open area in front of the escalator and the shop. Since it is partition with low lying walls, it's still separatePriceBengawan Solo pricing is quite steep as always but they do maintain a kind of market standard. Overall, I will still have their kuehs once in a blue moon.Recommendation / TipsWill recommend you to try out the cendol continue reading
