Sugisawa Japanese Restaurant seems to be famous and popular for its bento sets so I decided to follow suit and order them. The bento set consisted of tempura prawns, tuna and salmon sashimi , some kind of boiled vegetables and steamed prawns. It also came with the usual stuff like miso soup and rice. I liked the tempura prawns for being well fried yet not too oily. The sashimi was also very fresh. For around 18 dollars, this is quite reasonably priced, but I won't go back specially for it.

A friend of mine has been asking me to try the tonkatsu bento if ever i visited Sugisawa and I did so finally tonight! The restaurant owner/chef is a Japanese and you can tell the grade of a Japanese restaurant by the numbers of Japanese who patronise. This place is full of Japanese.The bento set consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet, garnished with shredded cabbage, tuna & salmon sashimi, boiled vegetables & prawn, as well as miso soup, rice and a bit of spicy yellow karashi (Japanese mustard). It also consists of radish and yellow daikon pickles (sorry, i ate them all before picture was taken ) I loved the freshness of tuna and salmon sashimi, oiishi The poached prawn was big and juicy The boiled vegetables (carrot, bamboo shoot, yam onden, egg, fishcake) were another favourite of mine oh yes, the main dish - tonkatsu was nicely fried, crisp on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside... you can add some tonkatsu sauce to it but personally, i prefer not to have it. The miso soup was very flavourful and not too salty (unlike most)

Beef Bento set which consist of salad and sashimi. The beef is soft and tender. Fragrant and delicious! The Tuna and Salmon Sashimi were thickly sliced and fresh. The salad comprised of a fresh sweet boiled prawn, a soft baby carrot, potato & egg salad, fishcakes, Yam Konnyaku, crunchy Bamboo Shoots and Seasoned Seaweed. Very special and authentic mixed. This place is mostly Japanese and can be rowdy and noisy at night. Suitable for casual meals!
